Brilliant discussion! So helpful to hear an articulate conversation about extremely complex phenomena. I ran into conflict w/ a neuro-diverse person who demanded to be called autistic and to be recognized for her uniqueness ahead of her humanity. This was perplexing! Baffling! I see now that this was the embodiment of the essentialist vs. constructivist dichotomy that we often fall into and can “transcend” as a both/and rather than either/or issue. Ironic given that we are seeking our common humanity with social and intersectional identities in mind
