I always thought of A Perfect Circle as a more refined, poppier even version of Tool. I was at a party once in the early 2000s, it was new years eve and somebody stuck a Tool album on. There was this really intricate guitar part that seemed to go on forever....it was only after 30 or so minutes that we realised that the CD was actually skipping and it was playing the same part over and over again!

Big OOF! On the Puscifer part. The first album was pretty much a 'made at home' album with low quality art/videos. After that album you see a considerable rise in quality going forward. Yeah that album cover standing alone is pretty terrible, but I think the overall packaging with all the different merchandise is one of the more fascinating ways to market a band that I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even like the music that much but I sure as shit wanted to buy one of those t-shirts. The music got better with subsequent albums too, although stylistically they never really meshed with any concurrent fads that were happening at the time of their release dates.

One of the most interesting things he did was play drums for a band called RDGLDGRN. They do a pretty cool rap/indie rock mix and asked Dave to drum on one of their songs. He ended up doing their entire first album with the exception of one song, which used a drum machine and was produced by Pharell. It's a really cool band, but just fucking out there when it comes to the Dave Grohl connection.

@@andrepereira744 you're crazy dude. His timing is like a computer and he can play. I just meant in Korn he has to just follow the guitars and play the same rhythmic slapping style. 100% he is better off staying in Korn
@andrepereira744
@andrepereira744 2 жыл бұрын
@@leser1music Nope. Like I said, "bassically" album is bassically a collage of bass lines(?) that most of times don't match one with another. Even on this record he could have chosen a higher tuning to suit him better or even present something different, but no, it's the exact same tuning as Korn. When his playing on the low notes, without guitars or other instrument behind, you can't identify what notes is playing (like in Korn). "His timing is like a computer", yeah if you still have a Spectrum ZX! You're really crazy dude or he's your favorite bassist or you're def! His plucking techniques on bass lines are slow af. You even can see that he also got his own sound because of that. Also, you're saying that "his timing is like a computer", but the only time that his "timing is like a computer" is when he slaps really fast. The exact same thing that you're complaining. Just to end, I never said that he can't play.

I highly encourage anyone who open to it to see Puscifer live. I’m a Tool and APC fan but I did not get into Puscifer at first. However, my buddy insisted I attend one of their shows about 10 years ago. It is honestly the most trippy stuff I’ve ever experienced at a concert. This is a live experience. If you enjoy a little ganja before your shows….just get a ticket. There’s surrealist theater happening behind the band and the theme is different each tour. I don’t listen to the music regularly but I’ve attended three shows and they’ve all been worth the ticket.

I have nothing to add beyond what other Maynard Stans have said except for a request to at least give songs like Conditions of my Parole and the Remedy a shot. Puscifer is intentionally super satirical most of the time and the shitty cover art is reflective of that. But I also get it’s just not for everyone either. I often prefer APC and Puscifer to Tool more often than not.

@Finn Curious as to what all you've listened to from Puscifer. Yeah, I'll be the first to admit its not for everyone, and a lot of it is goofy/abstract, but there's some real gems. 1. Potions - Deliverance Mix 2. Grand Canyon 3. Dear Brother 4. Telling Ghosts 5. The Life of Brian (Apparently You Haven't Seen) 6. Momma Sed (Live at Club Nokia) 7. The Humbling River You yourself said artists should focus on singles over whole albums - and these are all solid songs, regardless of the other "songs" that surround them on the albums.

In terms of supergroups, I'd say Black Country Communion is a definite highlight (if you like classic rock with a bluesy edge) Other than that, Slash's Snakepit, Velvet Revolvers, Body Count, Emigrate and Serpentine Dominion are all interesting to talk about. Cathedral might fit too! Another one I love is Subterranean Masquerade, but that pulls from some more obscure sources, so it might not be a good fit for discussion.

To me, Billie Joe Armstrong, Tim Armstrong ( ...see also "The Armstrongs" lol), Dave Grohl, and Travis Barker are "musicians", meaning they just genuinely love the craft and use bands as their way of exploring and expressing they're musicianship and interest. It's like they say I'm really digging 80's new wave ... let me start a band so i can have an outlet and not muck up my main thing. I really think it shows the complete band's character as well that all the other dudes in Rancid, Green Day etc. are cool with it as well as being able to explore their own interest too.
