@@xenos_n. I agree. I believe most Korn fans would as well, and it was when they sounded like a well oiled machine. The studio engineering was next level compared to their first two albums. Contrast that with Limp Bizkit. TDBY wasn’t their commercial peak, but to me, their sound and style peaked on that first album. I think the studio polish of Sig Other and future releases took them the wrong direction. Then again, they are multi platinum artists and I’m commenting on YT.

I watched a video of Pantera playing in Philly in 99. I watched the intro like 13 times bc it was so simple, but so badass. They just kinda meander onto the stage nonchalantly and Phil just goes, “we’re Pantera”, then turns back and points to Vinnie and says, “play that shit”. Then they immediately explode into Domination and just go crazy. So simple and so badass. Love it.

I’m 50 (and watching this??), and still regret not seeing NIN for only $10 in 1990, maybe 91, cause it was a Thursday night, and I had school the next day. Normally that wouldn’t have been an issue, but I had already cut class Monday-Wednesday so I felt it was a bad idea. Damn do I regret it! NIN in a 500’ish room club for $10, with nickel beers (gotta clear the old kegs for the weekend), and I pussed out. 😢 Kids, you only live once. When opportunity rises, take it!

I know that functioning to any degree when you’re self medicating like Peep is hard, so the fact that he made all that amazing, genuine heartfelt music during consistent binges and bouts with mental illness means he had so much passion and love for his art itself. It’s super rad of you to not spin it as strictly -drug romanticizing - IE inherently bad- negative. Instead seeing it as a tragically accurate depiction of his life is a beyond respectful and nuanced take, that personally meant a lot to me as someone who’s suffered/ seen others suffer from addiction ❤️

Important note for Bat Country: the video is based on the plot and ideals of the early 70’s novel "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". The main character in book binges on tons of psychoactive (hallucinogenic) drugs and the resulting trip lasts several days. Since Bat Country is about the ups and downs of a psychoactive experience, the novel is a perfect fit for the song.

Back in the 80s, most record stores wouldn’t even sell Suicidal Tendencies albums, strictly because of the name.

Having LB right after Suicidal, there was a missed connection. Had you talked about their first music video Counterfeit, you couldn’t then talked about the album, which has “Stuck” which has the line “All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, far from Suicidal still I get them tendencies” Not a fan or LB, just grew up in Jacksonville in the 90’s-2010’s and knew that. I’m a fan of Three Dollar Bill Y’all, but then it stops

TDBY was a pretty good album. There wasn’t much that sounded like it when it released. Significant Other had none of the edge of its predecessor. That said, Nobody Like You (with Scott Weiland RIP, and Jonathan Davis) is what I’d consider to be their best song. The riffs I. That song are great.

One very impressive aspect of Tool is that they have zero sex appeal. They don't even appear in their own videos, yet they're one of the most popular bands ever. That's quite an accomplishment.

Surprised Prodigy's "Breathe" or "Firestarter" didn't get a mention. I felt those are rather iconic and the film clip for "Breathe" I know for a fact grabbed the attention of many people and fit the song so well. I know they were slammed for the apparent "commercialisation", but it scored them many many fans and is instantly recognisable 🤷‍♀️

Part of the reason that Chop Suey has so many views is that the KZbin algorithm constantly recommends it if you listen to anything remotely metal.

another band that walks that line of pop punk, Geen Day. their video for "Good Riddance", along with the incredibly catchy chorus, really put them on the map. dookie did alright. but nimrod was huge for them. i vividly remember that video playing on mtv constantly.

The band members of TOOL do appear in the Sober video. Only a handful of quick cuts with a heavy motion blur effect, but it’s them. Also, with his background in special effects in film, the guitarist, Adam Jones, created all the sets and character models for the video, and shot all the stop motion in a style heavily influenced by film artists The Brothers Quay.

On the note of November Rain, I think the rain during the wedding scene was metaphorical for a drive-by shooting. In the scene where shes in the casket, only half her face is shown, with the other half being covered by a vertical mirror which is what morticians sometimes do if theres damage to the head/face and the family wants the option of an open casket funeral

"One" prompted me to read "johnny got his gun". I was in the 11th grade. Very intense book! The copy I read had zero punctuation and zero capitalizing of letters....so that on top of the topic of the book was kind of mind blowing for me as a 16 year old....

Pantera performing Domination live in Moscow is not the official or unofficial music video for the Domination song. It is just a live performance that was cut from the Monsters of Rock concert. Pantera sang another 3 songs in that concert of which you can easily find the videos on youtube: Primal Concrete Sledge, Psycho Holiday and Cowboys From Hell. The Domination video is not the music video because it was not played anywhere at that time, it could just be found on the DVDs with the Monsters of Rock and I think also on a Pantera Home Video DVD. It became popular only since KZbin. No MTV, no nothing

Interesting not to see Linkin Park's In the End in here. Not to say that it holds up, but it most definitely was one of the most influential green screen "supernatural" "settings" that was eventually replicated by tons of bands, including themselves, in the genre/adjacent genres, esp among scene/metalcore bands (I'd argue a very good example of a well-produced continuation of that video style is Falling in Reverse's Zombified).
