Finn, i'm not gonna say that you forgot this or this subgenre but I will say that you left out alot and in a weird fashion. It seems like you created subgenre with discussable choices to fits in and left out real sub-divisions by amalgamating bands that doesn't belong together. Not complaining just saying that i'm puzzled with your fragmentation off subgenres 🤣. I would probably really enjoy talking music for an entire evening with you and see how different we see a scene as two different person of the same era but from different country... anyway cheers to you man 😎

Raid shadow legends! Made by a developing company run by a chairman for the world's largest gambling lobbying group, owned by an Australian gambling company that primarily makes, you guessed it, SLOT MACHINES! Upon acquisition of the game development company the CEO gave some speech about expanding to other areas related to their business and implementing their knowledge to grow these other closely related areas or some shit basically equating to "use our knowledge of how to make slot machines that people pour money into and generate ludicrous profits.. Implement that knowledge into the mobile gaming platform which is obviously closely related to the gambling business.. Prey on little kids that we cannot reach in our target market with our slot machines.. Take their and their parents money and create Lifelong gambling addictions hopefully encouraging them to play our slots later down the line!" They tell every sponsored KZbinr EXACTLY WHAT TO SAY! How many cookie cutter raid shadow legends ads have you seen every KZbinr from a car channel, cooking channel, punk rock channel.. It doesn't matter. There's tens of thousands of these BS ads out there. THE GAME IS AWFUL! It's literally the epitomy of the absolute worst of mobile gaming.. Progress is directly linked to your credit card... You can literally put it on auto so you don't have to play the awful game until the next time you need to type your credit card number in to progress again.. At which point you think you've gotten some joy out of the game but you haven't.. You admire your shiny new character and then auto through more of the boring egregious campaign until the next time you have to stop to spend some money! It's literally the scummiest thing ever. Raid shadow legends is going in the Z tier! I hope they get what's coming to them.

So true. Pretty much all of Metalcore is Djent infused by now. So the influence factor is pretty large. Also there's this splitting of Djent into different styles. because it really wasn't that obscure it was actually massive. By 2011-2012 it seemed like almost the entirety of the Warped Tour was nothing but crabcore bands.

No mention of post-punk? Sure, it's old folks music, at this point, but it's super-influencial and still culturally relevant. Remember all those alt-rock, buzz bands from the early 2000s that totally aped Gang of Four and Joy Division? Plus, I hear a lot of Robert Smith in many emo/pop-punk vocalists and even the emo rappers. And I think Hot Topic will always seem to have Smiths, Cure, or JD represented on their t-shirt racks. It's at least a B tier.
@musicallystoned74894 жыл бұрын
Most of the Post-Punk Revivalists came from the 2000s UK Indie scene, mainly raved upon by the NME. The Libertines, Maximo Park, The Vaccines, The Futureheads, The Rakes, The Cribs, etc. A bit of a far cry to the bands featured on this video.

The second I heard melodeath put in C my heart died. In flames was my first experience (the first song I heard changed my music taste for the better. Only for the weak) into melodic death metal. I'm so glad I got to see them just before everything went into lock down. Red (who in flames was touring with) had been a favorite for a while (not death metal I know), but their recent stuff, excluding of beauty and rage, which is tied for best album with innocence and instinct SPECIFICALLY deluxe edition. Seeing them both fulfilled another section of music. Breaking Benjamin 4x 3 days grace 1x Red 1x Chevelle 1x Nothing more 1x 5fdp .25x (I only went to see breaking Benjamin and bad wolves) Bad wolves 1x TSO 2x Bowling for soup 1x Red jumpsuit apparatus 1x Falling in reverse 2x (though the concerts haven't happened yet) All I need to add now to die happy, is architects, slipknot, Billie eilish, a7x, and powerwolf

@SkaTuneNetwork4 жыл бұрын
Obligated to say I both agree and disagree with the ranking of ska If you’re talking only third wave, then yeah that’s fair. But counterpoint: take a look at how many Spotify listeners these ska bands have. I know it’s not the only way of measuring a band/musics reach but I think it says something when a band like reel big fish is near a million people who consistently listen to them monthly, meanwhile a legendary emo band like American football only has 300k. Also keep in mind that most people who listen to ska bands like reel big fish are older and don’t use streaming to begin with so those numbers are probably higher I would also say it’s more influential than people think. Most punks at some point had listened to ska and started playing music/going to shows because of ska. They just don’t wanna admit it because they can’t form their own opinion and think it’s cool to hate shit just to hate shit And lastly, the genre has done so much new stuff since the 90s and different bands have had huge success, especially internationally speaking. It’s just a genre that suffers from really loud fans who only push the same 5 bands from the 90s, so people think the genre hasn’t done much since then Edit: just wanna add that I saw your comment on how you’re learning how defensive ska fans are. I can’t speak for all ska fans, but ska fans like me get bummed out by perceptions of ska because the genre has output so much since 2002, and has a long history before it blew up in the 90s that often gets overlooked, and it sucks that what people think of ska is such a small percentage of all the genre actually is.
@sloppynyuszi3 жыл бұрын
As someone who isn’t really a ska fan. In the sense I really (really) like the 90s stuff. The older stuff is a bit mellow, and RBF is my fave band, but I have to concede it’s just rock/punk with trumpets. My ska range is really just regional. I enjoy Spanish, Japanese ska a lot, the Aussie scene though small is really good. The Porkers are fantastic! But I have to confess they all have that 90s third wave Orange County vibe. My point is, I’m what’s wrong with Ska fans 😁

I would honestly switch black metal and death metal- It's true the imagery of black metal is "in" in the fashion scene, but the music as well has started to gain attraction from non metal fans. Rap and pop have gone darker and the whole fashion angst is very in, just not in the corny nu metal way, but teens going "im dark and edgy" I've honestly met ALOT of kids into expensive designer cloth talking about Darkthrone, Burzum and other second wave black metal bands. A lot of soundcloud rappers as well as easy to listen to black metal like Deafheaven (yes I called them blackmetal) might have a lot to do with it, but fashion is much darker at this point and happy go lucky attitude is not what kids want. For extra points, I love the fact that the Trve dickheads precious genre might go mainstream

Hey Finn, love the vids! I just wanted to make a comment about the Ska classification. Ska is an umbrella term of multiple eras and your focus was solely on what is known as Third Wave Ska. It really doesn’t take into account the historical significance of ska in Jamaica or the massive social significance of the Two Tone era of ska in the U.K. I love all eras so I’m inherently biased but I think when ska is judged in whole, it would be held in higher esteem. There’s actually a great documentary out called Pick It Up: Ska in the 90s that examines the entire history as well as the future. I highly recommend it to anyone with even a casual interest in the genre.

One thing people don't seem to realize is that the whole grunge look (old flannels from a thrift store and old worn jeans), is it was never originally meant to be a style. The people in the grunge band probably didn't have a ton of money so they needed to get cheap clothes. There's a lot of logging up in the Pacific Northwest, and a need for a light layer over your shirt, so they wore flannels. Lots of people own jeans, so it's no shocker that they did. Since jeans can be expensive, why through them out when they start to get worn. Wear them until they're unwearable. The people in the grunge bands were not trying to create a new style, the media just interpreted it that way.

I would say In Flames’s Soundtrack to Your Escape was my first exposure to melodeath back in 2004 and really hooked me from the start. The Quiet Place is an absolute banger and the entire album is solid. This probably helped pave the way for my entry to metalcore back in the late 2000s as before that I was listening to nu and alt metal like LP, LB, Korn, and Slipknot. Ever since, I’ve aways really liked the juxtaposition of melody and heaviness and it’s even allowed me to open up to even heavier stuff like deathmetal, deathcore, grindcore, and even slam.
