Shayna, I totally agree on your rant about meeting likeminded people online and especially about not finding them irl... Purple Palace is one of my favorite places to feel connection. 🦋 I go through cycles of putting myself out there in the public and sequestering myself. Yes, yes and yes. Totally get this. I have my zoom art class groups, and they feel more like kindred souls than the people physically around me. I think if you’re stuck in a location/situation/presence where beliefs expressed and actions taken do not align with what you believe, it can be so isolating and depressing. Getting to interact over zoom in real time can be a very positive and inspiring experience. I find the creative community to be such a life affirming group of people. Thank god for ya’ll! I get where you are coming from. People see me as airy too but it also makes me fun. One close friend told me, "People don't always see how brilliant you are because you hide it well so they underestimate your genius." lol I'm artsy and somewhat eccentric and no doubt have attention deficit too, but I can be quite focused when something interests me. I can be reclusive and a loner but also gregarious at social gatherings which I tend to avoid. It's a strange mix, so yeah, I get it.🙃 I love the dragon what a steal:-)

your thoughts about connection face-to-face vs online were very relatable. i’ve had social anxiety since i was a young kid, since way before i was on the internet. it makes it super hard for me to step out from behind my anonymous usernames online and engage genuinely with people face-to-face, even when i meet those rare people who i click with, who can see beyond the surface level. i like the idea of choosing to pursue embodied social connection as a mindful practice, thanks for sharing!

I hate that people think you ( as in me) are unintelligent for being genuine, honest ,kind, real! Always a let down especially when you thought you were on a level! Its like being a secret genius - but only you can see it! Watching the theatrical show and knowing they dont speak bilingual- not an alternate spoken language. A language beyond words, worlds, dimensions 🎉 You can see out and they cant see in - a spy of your own species ' a scientist- endlessly fascinating yet mentally isolating! Outsider looking in! And you always get them, see them, feel them, sense where they are coming from and they never really get YOU! My thing with creative work is, i actually manage to numb myself by doing the endless same thing for hours, days on end. Turns out I inherited not just the creative juices from my ancestors but also their habit of using making stuff as a way to get structure, feel (a bit more) productive and useful, less pointless and depressed in the face of past trauma....... Trying to wean myself off from that. Change it up, move my big ass, and yes, journal ! Especially listen to myself, when i actually get bored it starts to hurt physically, don't ignore that... Bro.. I am a man, but I understand you exactly. I make a good living online, it's my full time job as a designer for fashion brands, I work in very artistic spaces and have owned and ran galleries in the past that were also successful before covid I shut down during covid and just completely went remote. Now I travel around and work from my laptop - but I understand your artist frame of mind. The spacey, processing information different, probably somewhat autistic, but super smart, go-getter, hustlers.. I see you, I really do.. more than you know.

I really enjoyed your comment about your relationship to art making on the internet vs real life. I’m not an internet-based artist as much as an IRL local community based arts artist (I write poetry btw), and I am so intimidated by putting my work out there on the internet because as much as it can be extremely easy to connect there’s also a high chance that your work can be stolen. There are pros and cons to both, totally would love to be a bit more balanced about it because there are HUGE benefits to having a strong social media presence or following on the internet and using that as a means to share your work. I know there are a lot of LA based communities that heavily utilize social media as a means to do community organizing IRL as well. I suppose I really enjoy the IRL community personally because there’s something about going to an event like an open mic or something and just hanging out to share meals or get a drink together that fosters connection in a way that internet alone just can’t seem to provide (at least for me personally). Would love to hear you share more about your journey into the local Paris art scene because depending on where you’re at, art scenes just differ from one another and those nuances are just really fascinating 😊 hope you’re doing good

Totally resonate with the lone wolf talk and what you said about being perceived as spacey because you process differently. I've been thinking about that stuff a lot this week so love this timing! I think sometimes creative people create because they're like sponges that absorb all of the nuances and idiosyncrasies and beauty and injustices of the world around them and synthesize it in ways other people don't normally think about. A lot of people are more compartmentalized and less intuitive than that so it can go over their heads. Are you into myers briggs? Maybe you're ENFP like me? Ambiverts with intuitive perception.
