I put together the ornaments with my orange slices adding the star anise. Love them!!!

My mom would have loved this too! The light from the tree, shining through the orange slice, was so pretty! I think I may make several of these and hang them in different places. Thanks for a great idea!

@ThePurposefulPantry Yes, ma'am, they really are. I'll do 🍋 too. I love putting cloves in them as well. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Something we used to do for Christmas presents (and one for ourselves was to take an smallish orange and poke while cloves in it. Completely cover the orange with the cloves. Let them dry a few days, the cloves help to preserve them. Then wrap them in netting, tie them tightly with thread or string than a ribbon. These can be used as an ornament or as a drawer or closet freshener. They will continue to dry until they’re a hard ball. The scent lasts for years!

Yep - we did that growing up!

Love the ideas. A thin (metal) crochet hook might make it easier to pull the cord through

I took a bunch of stuff out of my freezer today to dehydrate and one of those was cooked beet chunks so able to put directly in the dehydrator. I discovered they are incredible snacks and don't have to be completely dry if eaten soon.

I bet the little key limes would work. They are much smaller nand softer.

The limes actually worked great - and yes, key limes will work, too. It was the lemon that didn't really work.

I think I would try an acorn cap for the center of the orange slice. Those are pretty easy to find and free. Won’t smell as good as anise though.

I just bought oranges the other day to make slices and old time pomander balls. Your ideas are great and I might have to give some a try. I read your newsletter before I watched this video. Your dad was right with the pumpkin comment. I might be making some for fall! Thanks for these ideas!

Are these ornaments typically something you keep for one year or can you reuse them? I know you said the slices are more for a single year, but I was curious if that applied to all of them. Thank you for the lovely video and for showing us how to make such beautiful ornaments. I really loved seeing the process. The result makes for such a beautifully decorated tree that I bet makes the whole room smell amazing!
@ThePurposefulPantry Жыл бұрын
It applies to all of them. If you wanted to keep them, you'd need to spray them with a sealant (you can find them in the spray paint section of DIY stores), but the whole oranges won't keep.

Hi Darcy! I just picked up a bunch of fallen lemons from my tree. Some of the lemons are a little green…are they okay to dehydrate? Thank you!

If you wouldn't eat them, don't dehydrate them ;)

New subscriber here…l just got a Cosori based on your videos. Quick question, can you dehydrate oranges without the peeling? I want to dehydrate those separately. TIA🙂
