I'm not sure how it is that I happened up on your channel but I'm so glad that I did. It's just my husband and I, but we have 2 fully stocked freezers for ourselves. What I love about your videos is that you are actually cooking and stocking up and using real food! I watch many of the large family freezer prep people out there and they basically open cans, mix them up and stick in the freezer (not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just not my style). You, however, are cooking some very tasty looking food and I just love how you are doing things. Keep it up! ~~a new subscriber and fan of your channel!

Oh my word Denise, first Pam and now you! You guys are going to make me cry with your kind words. I over did it yesterday and had a lot of pain through the night, I was awake for a few hours. I watched Cokeman250's recent video about how powerful a persons words are and how we should be positive, inspiring and encouraging to others. Then I woke up to you and Pam this morning to find God's hand prints all over your messages to me. What a beautiful way to start my day. Thank you. Shelby

Makes live so much easier. :) I just have say you remind of Heather over at the Kneady Homesteader. channel. You could be a sister.:) Thanks for sharing such goodness. :)

I love your videos, I'm so glad that I've found you. They are filled with so much love, warmth, class, and pure inspiration. I also meal plan. However, I plan for the entire month. I would love to send you copy.Lastly, I live in Ashland VA but I work in Richmond. And you are correct, Sally Belle's is the best place for a boxed lunch and perfect for working meetings.

Okay I'm officially "jelly belly". Sally Belle's was such an unbelievable experience and I can't wait to the day we can return. Just delightful!!! I used to meal plan a month at a time when our children were little and Ken was in the military. I have slacked off in recent years, but I am making an effort to get back to meal planning. I find I spend less time, and money. Plus I never have to say what the heck are we going to have for dinner.....at 5 o'clock hahahahaha Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I think in life, like people find like people. Shelby

We have Aldi stores around the city but none that are convenient but after seeing this video, maybe it's worth the extra traffic and trip. I guess no different than the extra miles to a Costco or SAMs. Thanks for sharing.

I know that Aldi's prices are pretty good. I heard that one brother own's Aldi's and the other owns Trader Joe's, not sure if that is true? I go to Aldi's early when it is well stocked. Shelby

I got them in LA at the eye doctors office. You're gonna laugh, I had to get Ken to read what they said on the side of the glasses because I couldn't read it when I had them off. It says, "Banana Republic". Shelby

$2.51 is a great deal Shelby, I need to get a newer freezer before I can buy a side myself. I bought Aldi eggs here for $0.98 but they have had them for $0.59 recently. You'll have to message me you number again, if you decide to go to VT I can tell you some good places to check out that only locals would know about. Good deals, Aldi is getting more and more organic items each time I go it seems. I saw the storage containers yesterday, I'll go back Wednesday and pick up a couple, I have 3 stores pretty close to me, lol.

This might be a stupid question but can you tan the hide for your leather making? After watching your video this morning, I thought man he needs to get with a local butcher to save a few of those hides. I wonder if they just throw them out? I didn't even think to save ours. I knew the leather was expensive, but holy cow.....hahahahaha sorry for the pun, but I couldn't resist.
@RunsWithKnives8 жыл бұрын
You could do what they call brain tanning but its a pretty lengthy project, every animal has enough matter in its brain to tan its own hide but you have to have a stretching panel, you also have to scrape all the meat from the hide, remove hair then tan it and let it dry then smoke the hide. So, buying the leather for most now days is the smart option. But to answer your question, yes it can be done.
@Moore2Lifepantrylovinprepper8 жыл бұрын
is brain tanning when you use the enzymes in the brain to help with the tanning process?

@TheQueensCabinet7 жыл бұрын
Lauren that is a great question, we don't have much waste at all. I put any leftovers in individual serving containers so it makes it convenient for the boys to take as a lunch or just eat when hungry. It helps having such a large family. Shelby

Looks like you made a haul. Home grown beef is the way to go. Living on a farm raising your own meat saves so much. Can i ask with so much meat esp. Hamburger why did you buy patties at Aldi when you could use the good stuff just curious. I am hoping to raise a couple hogs for the freezer this year and more chicken. Last year we got 141 lbs. of meat from 23 birds so nice not having to buy meat in the store right now its only pork. We have our own eggs and we are not milk drinkers so about a gallon a month does on that. I bet your finding food is cheaper there than California am i right except for fruits and veggies. Your so organized i need a chart like you have on your freezer do you have a pdf for it?
@TheQueensCabinet8 жыл бұрын
Hi Marilyn, I bought the hamburger patties from Aldi's because we are trying to replicate an In n Out cheeseburger from a copy cat recipe and we had our beef ground too lean for the recipe. In California there was an In n Out less than 5 minutes from our house and in New York we don't have them.....sadness. One of the things we truly miss. I love that you are raising your own meat, poultry and eggs! I wish more people had that connection with their food, there is an innate honesty in that. Plus you know exactly what is in your food. You are absolutely correct about the lower food and gas prices compared to California except for the fruits and veggies. I used a free download for the freezer inventory, here is the link; onecheaputahchick.com Thank you for your kind words and encouragement on my organizational journey. I'm trying to get just one organizational system in place every week, in a year I hope it adds up to big changes. I read you save 40 percent work when you put these systems in place. I hope to get my pantry inventory done in the next few weeks and was thinking of using this free template; www.thepinningmama.com/getting-organized-pantry-inventory-freebie/ Take care Shelby

When you figure out the price for the grass fed beef did you include the fee you paid the butcher? Thanks in advance.
@TheQueensCabinet7 жыл бұрын
Janie we bought the cow from our neighbors who is a farmer, he had too many 2 year old cows going into the winter. We have know his family for many years; one of his son's mows our property and one plows the driveway since they were teenagers. So I think it was his way of saying thanks for employing his kids for all these years. What a kind gesture. So to answer your question yes we include the price of the cow, the veterinarian inspection and the butcher fees. What a Blessing. Shelby

I believe that's 2.51 hanging weight. your cut sheet should tell you how many actual pounds of meat you received once processed. I think you should be closer to $4 a pound out the door.
@TheQueensCabinet8 жыл бұрын
Actually it was the final weight, it was about a third less than the hanging weight. We didn't include the bones or any organ meat into the calculation. On a different note, Ken ordered Pork from someone that the beef farmer/neighbor suggested for May, curious how that is going to turn out? We aren't going to get any discounts on that purchase but several people in our community recommends the vendor.

Pam Jones Pam thank you for such a beautiful compliment, to be compared to Heather is such an honor. You really made my day!!!! I bought the menu plan download from Carrie Elle years ago for 5 dollars and have used it over and over. I believe she now sells them in a spiral binder form but I don't know the cost. The freezer inventory template I downloaded for free from the Internet. It's gonna take some effort to inventory the pantry but I know it will make menu planning easier. I read an article recently that when you have organizational systems in place, it saves you a 40% in your workload. Again Pam thank you for your kind words. Shelby

TheQueensCabinet It was my pleasure. I love bringing happiness into lives. I agree very much with organization keeping our lives more simplified. I definitely will be searching for a similar format. I keep a well stock pantry and the system you have shared would serve to help me keep track and rotate my supplies.. Thank you immensely for sharing. :)

Pam Jones Pam that is what I was thinking with adding the pantry inventory....I could track the expiration dates just by looking in my folder. Then I could incorporate items getting close to expiration dates into my menu plan and not have any food waste. Great minds think alike!!!! PS I hope and pray that your kindness comes back to you ten fold!!! You have a fantastic day and enjoy every moment of it.
