This performance on the Conan Show has had over 135 million views, the show's switchboard lit up after airing, the audience gave a 10-minute standing ovation with applause, and backstage people came out to see who was singing, and it was nominated for a Grammy that year. I would like to have a video of this audio in the studio video. I remember when Simon & Garfunkel came out with The Sound of Silence in 1964 and did not understand it then or the many singers who have sung the song. Last year, I heard Disturbed"s version and called my son to tell him now I understand the song. I am 76.

This version just gives you a massive assault of anxiety that you dont even fully realize you have until the final note and you let out the breath you were holding. Its just primal.

I had never heard of Disturbed before I saw them perform this song and I was blown away so I looked up other songs by Disturbed and omg I had no idea they were a metal group. LOL I'm glad I heard him sing this song first because his voice is beautiful, powerful and incredible which is different than his metal music. Great, but different. I ended up really liking some of their metal music but this song is truly special. I like the music video because I like the visuals but his voice is spectacular in both.

thanks to Simon & Garfunkel for writing and recording this classic over 50 years ago, allowing Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to revisit the message.....it was a warning of an increasingly disconnected society embracing 'silence'........David's interpretation tells us that people still prefer silence to participation in the world.......

Simon and Garfunkels original version was the warning. Disturbed’s version is rage that the warning wasn’t heeded. We are a world addicted and plugged into technology instead of to each other. So much hate and anger in the world now. This is by far the best and my own personal favorite version of this song.

The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is sad resignation. The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is Dammit, LISTEN! ***** The Warning ***** "And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made." ~ Paul Simon "And the people bowed and prayed, to the golden calf they made." ~ Old Testament

David, the lead vocalist, is classically trained in a Jewish Temple. It's easier for me to just paste part of a biography about David. David Michael Draiman was born to Jewish parents in the Brooklyn borough of New York City on March 13, 1973.[2] His father, YJ, had worked as a real estate developer and small-business owner before he was arrested for embezzlement and sent to prison when Draiman was 12 years old.[2] YJ would later become a candidate in the races for Mayor of Los Angeles in 2013,[3] 2017,[4] and 2022. Draiman's brother, Benjamin,[5] is an ambient musician who lives in Israel.[6][7] His grandmother Ziona is a Yemenite Jew whose family immigrated to Israel in the early 1900s.[8] While not personally observant of their Jewish faith, Draiman's parents sent him to Orthodox schools, where he believed he was on the path to receiving rabbinic ordination. He frequently spent time in Israel during his early life.[6] He attended five Jewish day schools, including Valley Torah High School in Los Angeles, where he formed his first band; Fasman Yeshiva High School in Skokie Illinois, a near north suburb of Chicago; and the Wisconsin Institute for Torah Study in Milwaukee.[6] During his freshman year at the latter, he was asked to leave as he "rebelled against the conformity" and "just wanted to be a normal teenage kid", adding that he "couldn't really stomach the rigorous religious requirements of the life [there]".[6] He has admitted to being "a bit resentful" about his time at Jewish day schools, but nevertheless became trained as a hazzan (cantor) and encouraged his family to observe Shabbat.[6] Draiman later enrolled at Ida Crown Jewish Academy in Chicago, and graduated from high school in 1991.[6] From 1991 to 1992, he became romantically involved with a girl who used heroin and eventually killed herself, which would inspire the Disturbed song "Inside the Fire". At the age of 18, on New Year's Day 1992, he attempted to kill himself but says that he instead woke up later to find himself nearly frozen to death underneath a parked 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass. After detoxing, he described having a "moment of clarity" and never used heroin again.[2] After high school, he spent a year studying at the Yeshivas Neveh Zion in Kiryat Ye'arim on the outskirts of Jerusalem.[6] After returning to the U.S. in 1992, Draiman commenced pre-law studies at Loyola University Chicago.[6] In 1996, he graduated with a BA in Political Science and Government, Philosophy, and Business Administration.[9] Initially considering offers to study at law school, he realized that criminal defense law was the only area of law that interested him, which made him unwilling to pursue law because he knew he would not be able to "really look at [himself] in the mirror and say 'I'm going to lie for a living and protect criminals'".[6] During his university studies, he also worked as a bank teller and in phone sales.[6] After graduating, he worked as an administrative assistant in a healthcare facility.[6] A year later, he earned an administrator's license and ran his own healthcare facility for five years before joining Disturbed.[6] Leaving that position strained his relationship with his grandfather, who was a traditional Hasidic Jew. You really need to listen to the song, " A Reason To Fight " kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYOqg5errqisla8 There are millions of people that need to know that there is help...there are people that love you and care about you! How do I know??? Because I was one of you...still am! Depression, PTSD, Alcoholic, they all come from one place, with one goal....to break you down, destroy your life, and eventually, get you to a point where you don't see anyway out of it except suicide! I know,Get the help you need! I was there....but today, I am 23 years, 7 months, and 11 days sober and clean!

You should check out the live version with Myles Kennedy, the 2 voices harmonising gives yet a different vibe and is amazing. There are other softer disturbed songs such as, a reason to fight, the light, darkness and a duet from their latest album with Ann Wilson from heart called don't tell me now, if you want to build up before getting to the heavier metal side.

This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs! David and his brother were trained Jewish cantors. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer. Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about. The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them... Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it. Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJyag4mtaK5rm8k Check these interviews with David... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKWxl6qlgKljjqM kzbin.info/www/bejne/baauiXuui550i8U David being interviewed and performing on stage The Vengeful One and Sound of Silence... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKqZhYamq5t1gtU The official video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qnmGCdbNllopY The original Simon and Garfunkel version... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHKooaN8irx_nMU Fascinating that Pentatonix chose to cover Disturbed’s version rather than the original... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZW5m4mqpddoa68 One of Disturbed’s classic tunes!!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmqvhYdmrdyXnNk

Yes, this is by far the better version of Disturb doing the song. It truly captured the REAL intent of the a PROTEST SONG. A warning against the tyranny of mind control that governments, commerce, and churches do to people. Never let them silence you. Never. If I need to remember why "we the people" is the most important part of America, I listen to this. Never let them silence you. Never.

I'm glad you watched this version too. It's so beautiful. The amazing thing is, he had the flu during this performance and they encouraged him to cancel, but he refused. Could you imagine this performance being any better than it was? There is one point in this song (don't ask me where, I'm not good at catching things like that) but the show used Auto Tune (I'm assuming they thought his voice maybe wavered from having the flu) and David was P*ssed! He knows as a musician people like voice coaches, professional singers and other musicians would catch the Auto Tune, even if average people wouldn't and would comment on it (and they have) He would rather have a flaw then have it artificially corrected.

I like the video version better because I do like the close ups as well & the video is a masterpiece!! Plus he was ill during this live performance & his voice cracked a bit, twice. I like the live version better too. Even though the video itself is pure genius. The word for his voice is MASCULINE! Apart from all the musicality. It is pure masculinity from beginning to end. And we just don’t hear that too much these days. That’s what wokeness is taking away.

Vocal frying is what he is doing and to do this properly you have to scrunch your nose and get the sound upwards and not in your vocal cords. It's more in your nasal cavity takes years to be perfect and lots of training. That's why he can trans in and out of it so easily
