My goodness, what a treasure trove of information. I am currently working on my third quilt and in the learning process, so this was a truly helpful video. I know I will watch it at least 2 or 3 more times to make sure I have it in my head correctly. I have been sewing since my 4 years of Home Economics classes in high school (over 50 years ago), but quilting is totally different from sewing clothing. So much to learn and I believe just found a fantastic teacher! Thanks, Alex for sharing all of your knowledge with us.

Happy Quilt day! That is awesome! I had another busy but fun filled day in my sewing room and now get to watch and do some hand quilting. I hope you have a wonderful and creative week ahead! Thank you for posting this video.

I guess I started quilting back in the "old days" with just my fabric, scissors and a ruler...and half-done pieces from my grandmother's "unfinished" projects. She had sewed SO many quilts on her treadle machine but, alas! none were left after she passed on. However, she left a suitcase FULL of UFOs, cut from feed sacks and used clothing. What a treasure trove! Things are much easier with the mats and rotary cutters, etc., and much faster, more accurate. However, I am still happy to do things the "old" way when necessary (traveling, etc.). I first found you years ago via tv...and rediscovered you last year online...what fun! You have re-inspired me!

This was a really informative video! It was worth watching just for the tips on working with half square and quarter square triangles alone! Thanks Alex!

I’m new to quilting got a sewing machine for Xmas and this was so helpful. I’m currently on my second and third quilt trying to get lots of practice before I cut all my sons hockey jerseys for a quilt. And this shows me I have so much still to learn before I attempt that one

You can also use a dumbbell rubber covered exercise weight to hold your ruler in place so your ruler won’t slip.

Jordan fabrics uses a hand weight (dumb bell) on top of her ruler while cutting so her ruler does not slide while cutting. Great idea! I bought one. I also have an “Alto Cutter” cutting mat board which locks your fabric under a metal strip. It has a ruler on a track for cutting strips. Unfortunately, I have not seen them online any longer.

Long Island (Suffolk County) and Nassau County do not have sewing machine shops or quilt stores. There maybe one or two small ones. We need a big store here o. Long Island. Classes and fabrics, threads etc. are very much needed here. Other states have so many. Texas has lots of shops. I do most of my Purchases on line now. We used to take quilt trips to PA. No longer because the bus companies charge for two drivers now. Double fees for us. My guild says “no” to these high fees. A three hour trip each way has gotten too expensive for my guild. I used to go to Houston Festival and stopped in 2009 due to my job merge, lost my Job. I attended 6 years in a row. I saw you there Alex. I miss all the shows. I watch many utube videos now.

Years ago I was using a rotary cutter on a board, when my cat who sat watching me intently reached his paw in front of my rotary cutter. He saw the wheel going round. I was so lucky to see it and stop in time. I could not have lived with myself had I cut him. Ugh.

Could you show people how to square up fabric, that helps with not getting the "v" in your strip

before using a sharpie on ur ruler: use clear scotch tape on that area of the ruler and then write/mark on the scotch tape...tis easier to peel off scotch tape then trying to wipe off a sharpie mark on the plastic ruler itself.

Have you talked yet about the quilt behind you?
@scottydog65392 жыл бұрын
Yes, the yellow head pins are fatter and the tops fall off. They are also dull at times. Cheap.
