BIoware "EA only gave a limited amount of time to make the game." Also Bioware "So we completely changed the combat system, inventory, dialogue and overhauled the engine." Rather than building upon what actually worked, instead they threw everything out. All because Mass Effect 2 was successful but not for the reasons they think, I like how people forget about EA's effective marketing that made ME2 success, but no, it was them removing your ability to crouch which sold millions of units.

SuperMicklovin I have argued this, over and over and over. The Developer, especially one such as Bioware or Visceral, have more than enough ability to fucking bail from a situation than anyone merits them to. With something as egregious as this, or Dead Space 3, its not EA's fault. Its the Developer's. They looked at the game, then at the paycheck and went 'eh, we don't care about our community.'. Don't give me the bullshit of 'they will always pick cash', because they are a massively enjoyed game company. If EA had fired them for telling them to take their ideas and fuck themselves with it, there is a hundred other publishers that would have EASILY picked them up and let them build what they wanted. THEY went with the fucktard train, and it is their fault.

I honestly find some execution of some admittedly good ideas baffling as to how badly they botched it. Having a large sprawling city to explore in an RPG is a great idea. Having it, plus some small surrounding area, be the ONLY PLACE you explore, and have areas that can be linked easily closed off by loading screens is how they botched it. Making your RPG game have different time periods for your characters is a good idea. Keeping characters in the same state of mind and being in the span of TEN YEARS, and not expanding the explorable world as time progresses is how you lobotomized it. Having a voice character with a name that characters call out is a little too Mass Effect for this Fantasy RPG, but it could work. Making your character be limited to only one of possibly four playable races, with one voice, one background, and simplifying everything he/she says to a dialog wheel that may not encapsulate what the player means is how you effectively surgically remove a world of possibility from the story. Making more recognizable characters for your companions is a good idea. Taking away the ability to speak to them in front of God and everyone, and taking away armor customization is a smug, immature insult back to the person who suggested it. Making the political tensions in the world that you can effect to a slight degree create your ultimate villain is a good idea. Having it be both sides that end up eating shit and VERY MUCH in the wrong by that world's standards is the kind of "Subjective morality" this game series really does not need. Improving combat for all classes is a great idea, when intended for fine-tuning. Turning a Third-person RPG with some RTS elements into a RPG/RTS/Hack-n-Slash mix while getting rid of the different weapon sets each character could have is the video game equivalent of Multiple Personality Disorder, where the final result is "Mash A (and the occasional power/potion) to win." Even the weapon of choice is strangely interesting as it's not exactly an Anime sword that doubles as a shield, axe, surf board, and cooking plate; but rather the rarely used Sword Staff. And yet it's used more like a greatsword instead of a weapon requiring brutal power and intense finesse. Lazy

The thing that instantly pissed me off about this game when I bought it was the fact that unlike origins I had 0 choice as to who or what my character was. I remember playing through origins at least 6 times just to see how the game played out as each different species and class. I think I forced myself to play 2 a second time in the sad hope that something significant would change if I played as a different class.

Once again bioware intruces us to a great game with the possibility of an amazing trilogy and yet again- they manage to fuck it up and in a BIG way. Mass effect, star wars kotor, dragon age are just a few names of casualties bioware botched
@CigEconomy
@CigEconomy 3 жыл бұрын
It was the timing of it all. Dragon Age and Mass Effect were both developed right before EA had taken control of Bioware and KOTOR was obviously well before that. Bioware has an EA problem, not a sequel problem. Unfortunately this is old news. The Bioware of old is dead and we're never getting it back. It's very sad. The days of "beloved" game developers doesn't exist anymore. The days when we actually admired devs like Bungie, Bioware, and Valve who were made up of regular dudes whose first concern was making great games. All those dudes were either pushed out or converted into the woke corporate religion. I miss when gaming was actually edgy and envelope pushing.

That food/turd metaphor describes this game perfectly. And I want to stress the word PERFECTLY here. DA:O had a level of immersion that I have never experienced in a game before. I felt like I was in the game. That character was me, he didn't even have spoken dialogue which made it feel more like my choice. DA2 was NOTHING like DA:O. The 5th blight ended when we killed The Mother in the expansion, Awakening. That plot line is done. Skip that one? It took four centuries for the fifth blight to arise so the next one's probably a good ways off. Here, just a few of my favorite choices in DA2. Did you guilt trip Anders, convincing him to stand with the Templars? Did you agree with Merril's attempt to salvage the Elf's past and slaughter her clan? Did you betray Isabella or did you face the Arishok 1v1 while having his respect?

You hit the nail on the head with the "DON'T REMOVE STUFF IN THE SEQUEL" point that Bioware never seems to fucking get. Part of the reason I hate ME2 so much is that ME1 needed more features in addition to polish, and yet the series regresses with each subsequent game while the cacophony of corrupt reviewers and shitty, uncritical fan-boys grows ever more disorienting. I hope you really did love DA: Origins because it was the last good game Bioware will ever make. DA2 was the herald of shit.

One more issue irritates the ever-loving hell out of me; the grey wardens stroll in on a war that is ripping the city apart. They basically shrug their shoulders, point to the script and say,"Sorry dudes, we cant do anything, says so in the script." and fucks off. What happened to 'protect and serve the people' that Wynne went to great lengths to drill into our Warden's skull at every opportunity? The safety of innocents takes precedence over 'dont get involved in political BS' rule.

I saw this after watching your review of Inquisition. It's hard to argue that DA2 was inferior with it's complete lack of environments and bizarre plot twists. My only suggestion is to play the game on Nightmare, which is only beatable through strategizing and making use of the cross combos between the unique abilities of your different party characters. I thought the rogue build in this game was really fun because if you spec Marion just right, the abilities in her class trees amplify each other and she becomes massively DPS heavy. I did really like most of the companion characters of this game so I cut it some slack. I did play it three times and managed to enjoy it more each time around, but now I'm done. The two expansions were better than the actual game itself. Bioware definitely took heed of the criticism, even if they don't admit it to the media. With Inquisition they were like "You want bigger environments? Well here's your f'ing bigger environments.".

Good God was this game a letdown compared to Origins which I absolutely fucking loved. It's like they looked at the end-of-the-world threat of the Darkspawn and the Game of Thrones politics in the first game, got rid of the end of the world shit and was like, "Those feudal politics. Give me that times 10." They crazy thing is, DA2 would be a decent enough game on its own, but because it was the sequel to Origins, it felt like a big wet fart. I've bought Origins 3 different times and played it at least 5 times, 3 of which were before DA2 even came out. I bought DA2 the day it released and it took me about 5 years to get around to finishing the damn thing just once.

That argument can only be used when it comes to gameplay or graphics. The companions were shit, the story was shit, the world-building they did was complete shit. This added NOTHING of value to the franchise, it was just a bad rehash of the Broken Circle quest from the first game, only not nearly as dramatic or interesting. You actually cared for some of the mages and templars there, especially if you had the mages background, and both sides were at least somewhat justified and had principles. In DAII? Nah, all mages you meet are blood mages or turn into abominations (or both), all templars are dickheads and either side is completely unrelateable. That's not something even PC Master Race (TM) could have fixed.

Even though I do enjoy the game and I don't mind any of the things being removed (with the exception of talking to your characters and character interaction) and enjoyed the combat system, your grievances are at least legit and by the way you define it, yes... it would be a bad game. But I can still enjoy the bad game.

To me, this is more of a "meh" that only angers me over the fact that the things it has are good ideas botched more than Bel Air Plastic Surgery, and only because they streamlined things to where the wings were taken off.

Razorfist: "Don't allow it to enter your thoughts." Me: "Okay." :) Dragon Age 2: *psst* "let me in." Me: "No." DA2: "Damn, that's the 23,250th person tonight... let's try that guy over there...."

Yes the modern WPRG (post Ultima 7) is in my opinion began in 2003 with the release of KOTOR. Which introduced many new concepts and expanded on the old. Bioware pre EA was one of the founding fathers (with Bethesda) where key to games we would receive today. Jade Empire and Mass Effect 1 are two huge influences which made games like Fallout 3, Kingdoms of Amular and Borderlands possible in this modern era.

There is no excuse for Bioware to not make a great rpg.They've done it in the past many times.It's like they have amnesia and forget so they throw sh*t at the wall hoping it sticks.

I love DRAGON AGE 2. It was the first dragon age game I ever played and it was good enough for me to want to play origins. After playing Origins I came to understand what got people mad about Dragon Age 2. D.A.2 won't ever be as good as D.A.O because the warden took care of the major threat. Thus leaving no real opponent for Hawke to fight. D.A.2 does show that there will definitely be a Huge 4- way battle between Mages, Chantery, Qunari,and Darkspawn then a 5th thing(corrupted maker).

I didn't say it was. We were dealing with the blights remnants though. It wasn't until The Mother died that they retreated underground. And yes, the wardens always await their return and defeat them again. Like the last five times. "In peace, vigilance. In war, victory. In death, sacrifice." My point about the choices went over your head. They don't affect the overall narrative, just the people, their beliefs mostly. And we get to see our actions develop these characters over an entire decade.
