If the prosperity gospel is true, then it needs to work everywhere at all times. Having been to the slums of Nairobi and volunteered in Kibera, I can say first hand that there are incredibly faithful God loving people there that live with raw sewage flowing past the sheet metal lean to that they call their home. They are not prosperous at all, but they have incredible faith.

The Bible teaches us how to prosper. Prosperity is not the problem. The heart of man and the sin nature are the problems of man. It's not wrong to prosper or else the church would have no support! Your family would lack support! If it's wrong to prosper, then work for free, never take a raise, and never receive a gift from anyone for any reason because all of that are forms of prosperity.

I just feel like every human deserves to have knowledge available of what we are able to understand. A conviction is nothing more than a glorified opinion. Which by design is subject to scrutiny. While their is nothing wrong with riches in and of themselves, they also come with a great responsibility attached to them. . Luke 12:48, "But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more." . Agur prophesied to Solomon some truths, and this is one of them: . Proverbs 30:8-9, " (8) Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: (9) Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain." . Basically it's best to be somewhere in the middle. It is a lesson for all of us. . Ecclesiastes 1:2, "Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity." . Glory to God

I consider this matter settled. Good on Dave for really tackling this subject. In Mark Then Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." Jesus gave this answer as a response to a question that boiled down to “is it right to pay taxes to the emperor?” Now the men asking the question were trying to get him in trouble but if they had been sincere, a simple question would have followed “What belongs to God?” I want you to think about what the Bible does fundamentally for us. It does many things but the two fundamental things you should have gleaned from reading it. 1.There is a God 2.He Loves you. Jesus dying on the cross was his message to his willingness to see us with him. In Matthew 6:21 it says”For where your treasure is, there your HEART will be also.” If your HEART is not with God then it’s irrelevant how little or how much you have because honestly, the both of you are in the same boat. God wants YOU! Money is just a piece of paper that has a trust that you can exchange it for goods or services and to treat it in any manner other than this is foolishness.

Most Christians have no understanding of scripture concerning prosperity. I think Mr. Ramsey did a good job of answering the mans question. I agree with Mr. Ramsey on his idea of long term wealth not trying to get rich quick. Scripture talks about that. There is the sowing and reaping and it does work but the key is did God lead you to do it. People here just a little and think hey I can just do whatever I want and it will work but it doesn’t. We do it Gods way according to scripture not someone’s opinion. Matthew 6:33 seek ye first the kingdom and all these things will be added to you. Read that whole chapter. God and His things come first before family, before our own wants etc. like Mr. Ramsey said God is good and he wants to bless us we just have to do it his way. Yes there are crooks in ministry just like any other profession. It doesn’t do away with the real though. As far as people being poor means they’ve done something wrong that’s crazy. Now they may not know God wants them to not be poor because someone told them he does. God has a specific plan for each of our lives and on that plan is the peace of mind, the fulfillment we are missing and also the blessings. Money is a tool it can be used for good or evil. Money and stuff has nothing to do with going to heaven but it does make life here easier. We can’t bless and help others if I don’t have extra at least financially. Gods has been lord on for hundreds of years by the devil deceiving his people. God can bring someone out of poverty in any part of the world no matter how poor you think they are. If people don’t know he’s good they don’t expect him to be good.

For citations, it is best to go to the source. The rich young ruler shows the heart in the wrong place. Luke 18:18-34. The parable of 10 talents. Matthew 25:14-30. Father provides. Matthew 6:28. Provide for your family 1 Timothy 5:8. Do not be an enabler. Matthew 7:6. Giving. Luke 21:1-4. Tithes and offerings. 2 Corinthians 9:7. Luke 6:38. 1 John 3:17. Matthew 6:24.2 Corinthians 9:1-15. Saving money 1 Corinthians 16:2. Paying your taxes Matthew 17:24-27. It is pretty clear we are called to be good stewards. We are to handle money wisely. Invest and grow, provide for needy, provide for your needs with savings, pay your taxes, care for your family, etc. Churches teaching greed are wrong. Churches teaching poverty are also wrong. Being fruitful, paying your taxes, wise investing, and above all with a loving heart knowing all your blessings are the Lord's, and you are the steward or caretaker of it. You are the Lord's financial advisor. Treat his gifts with grace and loving care. Do not be the fool and waste it on frivolous things. Save for your retirement so you are not a burden to others. Save for your kids school. Bring money to your church's storehouse so they can provide for the members in time of need. Does your church actually provide for members in time of need? You hear about churches all the time raising money. Do you hear about the churches assisting with rent, utilities, and other needs? The church I attend approached me when my wife died and I was unemployed. An elder approached me and asked if I needed assistance. Due to good stewardship, I did not need assistance yet, but this is how I found out about my local church fulfilling this scripture's requirement. I am back to work and make special donations to the Fellowship Fund at my church to help with members in need during this crisis. Where your money is your heart will be also. Luke 12:15. Matthew 6:19-21.

I appreciate that Dave talked about both ends of the spectrum. When I was in college, I often felt judged by several of my Christian friends/colleagues just because I had a job making decent money and wasn't pursuing a career in ministry. Those that are in ministry as a profession should be careful about this so that they don't develop a "holier than thou" attitude. They might even take a very literal stance on Jesus' command to "follow me" to the point where they own next to nothing, make no money, and are basically funded or live off of money given by others. You can't have 100% of the church body living this way. It just doesn't work.

My church, one of the first sermons I heard was how people are made for different things in the body of Christ, some will be the business owners that are blessed to bring money, if God wills it, some you won't be the business you might just serve in church, bring the energy etc. They talked about the history of our city, where many Christians were actually the owners of businesses that has become big global brands. They didn't promise we'd all be business owners though, they preached that Prosperity was a poison, and I believe the talking about business owners part was actually when they wanted to complete their trashing of the prosperity gospel by saying don't go towards poverty gospel either.

After the discussion i found more than one video with Dave saying it's not the prosperity gospel. So, i asked him later on about Proverbs 22:7, and acted like he didn't know about the verse.

I don’t think most of them understand scripture enough to worship anything other than what their pastor tells them to do. That gospel has ruined so many lives because it teaches ppl to forsake Jesus by chasing whatever it is that will bring them riches instead of chasing Christ. If we seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness, all things will be given to us, ALL. I worked hard all my life and was married to someone who didn’t manage God’s resources well. We stayed in debt and stress. After my divorce I took control of my own finances and took financial peace university. But I lost everything in that marriage so had to start over at 43 yrs old. But I learned so much through Financial Peace University. I got it together but it took about 6 years to recover and even be able to buy another house. But I was fortunate to buy a home that was a foreclosure and repaired it. I got remarried 8 yrs after that marriage and we paid off that house I bought before we married after 4 yrs of marriage so it was paid off in 12 yrs total. We have no debt and we are working on building our 401k’s, our IRA’s and we already have a fully funded emergency account. We have the freedom to support 4 Christian organizations and 1 non Christian organization that do great work in saving lives of children. So money is needed but it should not become our God. Actually what we have ultimately belongs to God. If we could just keep the mindset that not any of what we have belongs to us, we wouldn’t chase the dollar, we would chase God and He would supply every need we have and then some. He does it for me everyday and I have cancer and He provides the resources for me to get the care that I need to continue on as He has me here to do His will. But I will say, being outta debt afforded me to be treated at the number one hospital in the world for the type of cancer I have. We could afford to live in another city on and off for 1 and 1/2 year and still maintain our home easily because we had an emergency fund and no debt. I wouldn’t have gotten the care I received if we had not been financially able to stay in another city to go through the treatments. I don’t like the prosperity gospel because there are holes in their messages but I do believe in being a good steward over everything God has blessed us with and that’s why we have been able to do the things God has us do. But let me tell you this too, my chemo meds are $17,000 plus a month and God supplies that too because the manufacturer gives us the meds for free. They work up something with this hospital to where their patients get the care they need no matter the cost. So for me I see God in everything I do because sometimes it’s not always through money, but not one of us can purchase favor, that a gift and God bestows His gifts on whomever He desires to give them to.

Not sure where Dave gets the idea that the wealthiest folks are going to hell. I'm not sure who really interprets that passage that way. What Jesus said was...Matthew 19:23-26 NIV Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. [24] Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." [25] When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?" [26] Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Notice, he said it's "hard", not that they're all going to hell. He's highlighting what he referred to in the parable of the sower when he eluded to the deceitfulness of wealth (ie - wealth itself is often a trap). I do wonder why Dave handles the dangers of wealth so casually while referring to "winning life" as accumulating wealth. Sounds to my untrained ear that Dave may have already become a victim of the exact dangers Jesus was referring to.

Hmmm...mostly good but Jesus could read people's hearts. And he looked at rich people and said "Give away everything you have to the poor. Then you will have treasure in heaven. Come be my follower." And then the rich went away grieved "for he owned many things". So if you follow the gospel, you won't acquire a lot of riches. Now what a lot means is up to you I guess. But really, if you are attached to your things...it might be time to start divesting yourself of them. If you are a true follower of Christ and you see someone in need you should feel compelled to just give them things you NEED because "they need it more than I do". I'm not perfect by any means but I strive to err on the side of generosity. I'm trying to live a life of financial freedom so that I can do more for God and others, not just so I can just buy a bunch of junk. You can be rich or in debt and be materialistic. But I don't think you can be rich and not be materialistic after a certain point. If you have enough to live on for the rest of your life that ought to be enough, don't you think?

Human intellect and reasoning will always justify why we need wealth. The prosperity gospel has morphed into exactly what Dave is talking about. They teach the abundant life is for you to be able to bless others and further God’s Kingdom by funding the spreading of the Gospel. Good God loving people buy into this nuanced view of the need for prosperity because it sounds right. It sounds godly. We think God needs us all rich so we can do good in the world and this causes believers to be lured away with a desire to be rich. “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” ‭‭I Timothy‬ ‭6:9, 11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ We are to be content with our food and clothing. We don’t need to pursue wealth for helping others, we need to help others with whatever little we have because God commends the widow who put in 2 small coins and said it was MORE than what the religious people put in. God can multiply fish and loaves REMEMBER! God doesn’t want us desiring riches for ANY REASON! Especially not because of carnal, worldly, human reasoning which thinks we need it to help others. We all will at time experiences abundance and lack, and so that there is equality we give as we are able, because God wants us neither tempted nor burdened: “For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack-that there may be equality.” ‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭8:13-14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Gospel Itself promotes prosperity as one of the meanings of prosperity is successful, flourishing, thriving condition. Jesus declared that He came that we might have life and life more abundantly. The issue with the "prosperity gospel" is that it's unbalanced as the focus is mainly material wealth. I believe that the presentation of prosperity solely in this way gives the impression that the Lord doesn't care how else we live in other areas of life.

I also know that we humans, by our very nature will not live without the things we have that make our lives comfortable. Deuteronomy 8:18 The LORD gives you power to get wealth to establish His covenant in the earth. Matthew 25:14-30 20 So, he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ 26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. 29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. Since when are "blessings" from God things you work for? Getting what you desired, planned for, and worked for isn't a blessing. It's a wage. Dave's argument goes awry as soon as he claims God is controlling who gets money and why they get it. How can that not be a version of the prosperity gospel? Do the "right" things, get money. He obviously believes that God is judging him worthy of his wealth. True blessings from God are available to everyone, come through His Word and Spirit, and aren't dependent on what part of the world you happen to live in.

Blessings come from the LORD without our working for them - He rains on the just and unjust alike. Rewards come from the LORD when we engage processes He established or take actions He instructions - The wise build a treasury whereas a foolish man spends everything he gets his hands on. We do get money by doing the right things in the economic realm of our lives. Refuse to work long-term and see if enough income to satisfy needs comes to you. If you work, refuse to save and see if you will have money necessary to take care of problems and emergency issues that arise. Also, refuse to invest over the long-term and see if enough money shows up in an account later in life for you to live in the manner your accustomed and desire to live. I dare say, of your own doing, you would fail to get the rewards produced by gainful employment, saving, and investing and would live an impoverished life. Rich and poor alike can have hearts far from the LORD's heart and thus vision, desires, and pursuits not in accordance with His will. So, we who worship Him in Spirit and Truth must engage our lives and work in ways that seek His glory and to expand knowledge of His kingdom as we go about our employment and entrepreneurial endeavors. This will lead us to fruitfulness, profitability, and prosperity that pleases Him.

How would the "Prosperity Gospel" apply to our Christian brothers and Sisters in third world countries that are being persecuted for their faith that have almost nothing? Not enough faith in the Lord from them? No. TV preachers (like Joyce Meyer, and Creflo Dollar) with millions and personal jets preach this trash. On the other end of the spectrum, some preachers universally apply the use of the encounter between the rich man and the Lord in Mark 10:17-31, where Jesus asks the rich man to go sell everything that he has, give to the poor and follow Him applied universally to today's Christians which is wrong too. Some Roman Catholics sometimes would take a vow of poverty and live like a poor monk for works salvation which is unscriptural.

Should we tell them to remain poor and in lack all the days of their lives waiting for the government and all their poor family members and other friends to help them find enough food day to day and maybe a cave to live in? Of course, this would be harmful instruction. There is no promise of millionaire status in the bible nor any amount that determines your faith for salvation and eternal life. Only Jesus Christ provides that via His death, shed blood, and resurrection. However, it is patently false that scripture does not show the LORD's desire for people to prosper to be able to abundantly care for themselves, family, the delivery of the gospel message, the making of disciples, and funding of good works that help people at home and abroad. Contrary to assertions that some make, there are many people in countries with high concentrations of poor people, who have come from poverty to become high-earners and prosperous, without doing anything immoral. While I lead people to Jesus Christ, poor - middle income - and high-income, I speak the whole counsel of God in the bible to the poor including principles for prospering while they are on earth (because that is an area they need help in) and let them know not to love money and the things of the world, because that would be enmity with Him. They should believe He wants them to take actions within moral boundaries to prosper beyond the situation they currently find themselves even while they engage worship, praise, thanksgiving, meditation to enhance intimacy with Him, which in turn enhances spiritual maturity. We do them no favors when we fail to share biblical instruction that offers economic hope for their lives. The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 and the parable of the minas in Luke 19 show an expectation of what the LORD expects of the management of our lives and the money He entrusts to us.

I believe that would be taken out of context because Jesus explains that he, the one Jesus asked to do so isnt able to do it because of his love for his own possessions.

Edit: Formatting is garbage on youtube, it keeps changing this: Jesus continues his speech in Matthew 19:23-26 : 23Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” 26Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Jesus did not say that it was impossible for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God, only that it was easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. Then the disciples asked "Who then can be saved?" Jesus replies "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” It is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE for a rich man to be saved. If God tells me, i'll sell everything I own, and do as he tells me. (I would not do this of my own, I can only do this with God's ability; The Holy Spirit.) Simple as that: Matthew 6:25-33 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?[g] 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Jesus never told Zaccheus to give all his riches to the poor, nor did He tell the rich Christians mentioned in 1Timothy 6 to give everything to the poor. He spoke to the young rich ruler and gave him instruction based upon the condition of his heart. It was not a word for everyone, though everyone, including other rich people, should be rich in doing good works as directed by the Holy Spirit, using a generous proportion of money He entrusts to them.

"Poor people don't feed hungry kids".Dave? I think they do.... not in front of big screen Tv and the media but if you travel in poor countries, they share their meagre resources with more compassion.

Having lived in a developing country, I’ve seen poor people feed people who are even poorer. It’s a fallacy that poor people don’t feed children. They do. Poor people do participate in charity.

Proverbs 31 praises a woman for having multiple businesses and taking care of her household. It even explicitly says "trade is profitable." Ecclesiastes says it is evil when someone has everything they need and someone else gets to enjoy it. The Bible praises capitalism and condemns socialism. We are supposed to be productive and be generous with what we produce. But the world does not dictate what "generous" means. Even in socialist societies, the people who don't wait in breadlines are capitalists who have found a market to survive in.
