This is a great example of how one's life can turn 180°. The guy had no debt, making a regular salary, and decided to get a house probably because he felt ashamed he didn't have one or "needed" one. People, please dont let your ego lead you to unwise decisions. Partners, be supportive. If it is going to take 3 more years of saving to move to a new house, so be it. Rather that than something goes wrong and now you are looking at 10 years of suffering just to get back to where you were.

But man, it was rough. It was so stressful. He couldn’t quit as sole bread winner and we needed the health insurance for baby’s birth. Thankfully he got a new job just before baby came. So he took a little break between jobs for her arrival and started at a new company, which was night and day different. Thankfully we didn’t have a house to sell or move to make. Complaining about the job, her colleagues, her husband, her parents, her children etc. any way in a fit of rage she resigned. She told her husband and her husband was like - we cannot afford it, and she begged in an entitled way to withdraw her resignation and my boss said ‘oh sorry I’ve sent the paperwork to HR’ any way she didn’t take it well and kept complaining to my bosses boss all the way up to the CEO. This was a low level job at a workplace of over a thousand workers and he had no idea who it was. She even tried to get the unions involved even though she wasn’t a member. The entitlement was staggering and embarrassing. Had she fell on her sword with humility maybe she may have got her job back or at least a reference but she just kept blowing up. The things she used to say about her husband and kids was so horrible. Even her own admission, he was a good father and hard worker and constantly trying to improve their financial situation but any slight and she deemed it abusive. Such as going on vacation and letting her go by herself shopping while he hung out with the kids. Sorry for the long post but it just reminded me of this with the stories in the post

You know, that’s how it’s been forever in the history of humanity… My grandpa would’ve much rather have been an engineer, but he grew up a farmer and retired a construction worker… All his life he did what he had to do to keep his family clothed and fed, he was tired, hungry most of the time, but he was accomplished in his goals. They always had a roof over their heads, everyone was healthy. He died at 94yo after his PhD daughter hired an ambulance to take him back to his home state to see his ancestral land one last time. He died happy at the hospital nearby 2 of his daughters who had moved with their family to their home state… That’s what we parents do… We do what we have to… Not “what fulfills us”, not “what we like doing”…
