The sad reality is the widow earned what she's getting. Her husband died while in service, or even if he was retired, she (and he) still gave up a lot to serve the Country even as a spouse. I dont fault her for wanting to maintain her EARNED benefits.

Not sure I understand, is it that he "can't" marry her because he's worried about the kids losing benefits, or she "won't" marry him because she'll lose the benefits? Honestly she has no reason to get married with those type of benefits, so it's possible she's just stringing him along as her younger "arm candy."

Considering he probably makes less than what she's receiving in benefits, it doesn't make sense for them to marry. She is putting her children first. He has two options: increase your income so she feels comfortable giving up what she would lose in benefits, or wait until the kids are out of the house to marry (but you gotta discuss that in great detail and clarity).

This thinking is probably what the woman has engaged in except for the college money not being lost so not factoring in to her reasoning. Because why indeed should she give up guaranteed benefits to get married. Especially military widows' benefits after all she's been through with her family being in the military. And since she's been married before and knows that most marriages either end in divorce or don't work out and the spouses are miserable. To marry a guy who's 10 years younger, with all of her obligations, who also currently makes a lower than average salary. No, she just lied to dude to spare his feelings and keep him around. She might respect and enjoy him immensely. But for financial reasons has no intention of marrying him right now. Because it wouldn't make sense. Maybe she will reconsider if his earning capacity significantly increases. But why would he want to put his life on hold. Why would he shack up for years and also not have kids since this lady is almost too old now to have any more. No, if he can't quickly secure a much higher salary somehow, he's too young to get saddled with this situation and needs to move on. They're incompatible.

Why would a 28yr old young man want to marry a much older woman with all those kids!? You probably want kids of your own and she’s probably done with having kids, plus she doesn’t want to lose her benefits. Walk away! I’d be devastated if that was my son.

We live in our own places. Keeping it that way too. When you break up you gonna loose it all. Easier to be on your own schedule when you not messing up their sleep or your sleep is impacted because they got people in the house. It's too much. Date, live apart and this will ensure you got a woman that can take care of herself.
