We are debt slaves. We are paying debts from borrowing done in our names, without our consent for the most part. But rather than get a bill in the mail, the interest is built into every good and service we buy. We are the embodiment of debt because the cost is paid by the very lifeblood of the consumer, earned over a strictly limited time called a life. We live on a prison planet.

The U.S. economy relies on ongoing credit and debt generation for sustenance. The Federal Reserve is expected to increase the money supply, leading to further debt accumulation for the average American. Meanwhile, foreign nations continue to desire the U.S. dollar, despite their own economies facing significant challenges, some even worse than that of the U.S. This situation raises concerns about who will ultimately bear the consequences of these economic dynamics.

@barnabusdoyle4930
@barnabusdoyle4930 2 ай бұрын
Next time yes, but at this point, it may be better to focus on pounding out that truck payment than selling the truck and getting a lesser vehicle. Doing the math, he owes $30k on the truck, might be able to sell it for $15k then spend $5k getting a beater car, he’s not that much better off than just keeping the truck. Depending on the potential issues with the beater compared to the truck, keeping the truck could quickly make more sense.

Banks are not going to want to give him a loan, with no collateral, bad credit and limited income. Even if they did, he's better off with a reliable truck, than a beater that may leave him stranded. He should focus on increasing his income, and paying off the debt he already has.
@nickstark8479
@nickstark8479 2 ай бұрын
Getting a beater truck is better for his position because he can't afford the payments... Even if the car breaks down and he needs to pay for repairs, it's unlikely that the repairs would cost 700/month or 8400/year.
@LinusK500
@LinusK500 2 ай бұрын
@@nickstark8479 I mean, when you break down in traffic, and then you have to get it towed, and then the mechanic takes advantage, because he knows you're desperate, and you're about to lose your job, because you can't get there without a car, it adds up. Especially if you actually wind up losing your job.
@nickstark8479
@nickstark8479 2 ай бұрын
@LinusK500 Sounds to me like he doesn't have an employer, so no worries there... and even if he misses out on a job (if thats the type of work he does), it doesn't seem like it would cover the $8400 per year loss if he's only bringing in $600 working 40-50hrs weekly. Also, he said he doesn't use the truck for work, so he likely doesn't need a truck to begin with. A cheap, reliable, used sedan should be more than fine.

We were better, but the fact is, it takes time to change habits and it's so easy to slip back into those bad habits that were normal for us for so long. We are debt free now, but credit cards are not a part of the picture at all. I do believe we could be more responsible with them now, but I don't even want to have any part in it anymore. I attempted to trade it recently but thought about the cost of buying used with more miles and paying the same for used 4x4, in comparison to what’s left, $30 something now. I don’t think anyone want debt like this, but after situations happen, you tend to make your best decision from that. Wanted 4x4 so when our road washes out. @balancingfamilyhealthcaret8144
@balancingfamilyhealthcaret8144 2 ай бұрын
Dental and vision insurance can make sense to get if you are employed and the employer pays a good chunk of the premiums. For self employed folks what you can get is usually a wash for dental as the max amount of payout is only 1 to 2 k and you have to pay the full amount for the premium. Vision usually isn't worth it either. I ran the numbers and even with free exams, plus the cost of VSP premiums, plus the insured price for glasses and lenses, and my family is better off paying out of pocket for exams and purchasing glasses online through Zenni. (Delta Dental and VSP are the dental and vision insurances I found to be recommended by many folks who are self employed, but the numbers don't make sense for my family to sign up.) Now health insurance, catastrophic insurance, or being a member of a reliable healthshare is definitely best to have in order to protect against owing thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars should one need surgery or more than a few days of a hospital stay. I wouldn't go without one of those options.

Dealerships are knowingly giving high interest car loans to lower income people with poor credit. The dealer wants to collect the high interest payments until the buyer is tapped out, then they repossess the vehicle when the buyer defaults on the loan. Once they have the vehicle back on the lot, they sell it someone else.

Yeah it’s dropped like a stone by 30K in value since he bought it. Tbh I’m not sure if the 50K included the interest on the finance he’s paid. Either way he said he thought it’d be worth about 20K and he still owes 30K. Like I said, I’d happily pay $20K cash for a truck that’s already taken that big of a hit in depreciation. Desperate seller.

But I do agree, he should keep the truck and by keeping it, I mean 10 years at least. He’s only 21 and once it’s paid off it’s paid off. His focus should be on earning more however little and smashing out that debt.
