When my wife and I got married her family constantly told her to keep her money and save because she needs to be independent. After a couple years and therapy and church she finally saw the light and we combined incomes and now we are crushing it. Now she stays at home with the kids while I work. She crushes the budget weekly, all I can say is there is no such thing and being married and independent. Social constructs are wrong. We need to be together

That was beautifully said. I'm in a situation where I'm single but at the moment thinking about being in a relationship and eventually marrying and combining incomes is a very hard thing for me to grasp because I was with a very financially irresponsible person before. It's nice to see optimism and encouragement combined with success from this experience.

My mother was very concerned about her inheritance and not making any one of us upset/ angry. I’m one of three children. We all told my mother that her money was there for her and to take care of her. If she passes away and there’s some leftover fine, but if there’s not, we stressed that we were not going to harbor any ill feelings. She announced to the three of us that she planned to give me a little bit more than the other two. The reason behind this was because the other two children went to college with fully paid tuitions. I also became widowed at the age of 46. My siblings tuition‘s were fully paid by my parents as well as help from my grandfather. I went to vocational school instead, which was pretty cheap in comparison lol My mother feels that she should compensate me with a little bit more of an inheritance than the other two because they didn’t spend the same amount of money on me because I chose not to go to college. My mother is 83 years old and I really didn’t want her getting stressed out over this. I just told her that it was her decision, and of course, my siblings agreed. We all reassured her that whatever she decided it was fine. Our focus was on the remaining years of her life and enjoying her presence here on earth, and appreciating her for all the sacrifices, and the nice childhood that we had.

I didn’t have much debt because my dad always told us also about not having credit cards, debts etc. However, going through a divorce 3 years ago unfortunately I saw myself having to get credit cards (the old thing…build your credit blah blah), well I’ve used two credit cards for almost 3 years, and even being a not heavy spender, I was seeing myself paying over $300 for daily expenses to $2000 (due to trip abroad) every month. In November 23 I decided that January 2024 it would be the last month using/paying credit card. I cut my cards now in February, and the feeling of having my full income to work on was unbelievable. I’ve put aside the $1000 and already worked out a budget to keep doing that constantly. It works. And it is amazing 🎉 For you reading this comment, don’t miss the opportunity to make something better of your life!!!

Dominic! DO NOT buy a house if you’re not married to this woman! My late husband did this before we met. He put $10,000 down on a home with a woman that he was not married to but they planned to get married. Well, the whole thing went sideways. He went to see a lawyer and the lawyer just shook his head and told him “There is nothing I can do for you. Why did you do this? You’re gonna have to buy her out and send her on her way.” The sad thing was the $10,000 was all of his money. None of it was hers . ***It took him almost 7 years to recover from the loss. Needless to say once he met me it was so hard for him to trust me. We did eventually get married, but it took a long time to get him to add my name to the deed with his. Even when Dave said if you want to get out of the house and you can’t find her to sign off…..but also, if you want to keep that house or sell it ….if her name is on the deed, she’s entitled to half. DO NOT do this! Please!!

I wish someone was this positive towards me and my husband when we got out of college. Instead we got a lot of "take the first year of marriage for you," "take time to figure out what you really want to do," "you need to not work yourself to death," "you need to spend every weekend at your parents house," mixed in with a lot of "you're a victim" and "student loans are not fair" and other hopeless advice. We thought we'd never get out, so we didn't even try because that's what the adults in our lives did. 10 years later, we are hearing words of hope and realize that even now with 4 young kids and a house, that we can be debt free in 10 years living exactly like we are now ($106K student loan, $56 mortgage on $50K pre-tax income). Had we started 10 years ago, we could have been 100% free by now, but we were surrounded by despair not hope. Even now, we can increase income slightly by just doing simple things and be done sooner. Hope lights a fire. Keep giving it Ramsey and crew.

Just remember we don't know the whole story there. Yes, he makes a lot and yes, they have two small children. But we don't know if she's even mentioned to him that she wants help with her loans. Her question was really about how SHE could pay it off. Reminder that everyone who gets married needs the full picture of any loans, credit score, etc. before the ceremony. The easiest time to pay things off is when you are still single - before you have those two small kids! (And even with small kids there is always something you can do to earn more money. If not, you didn't make the choice to get the training to support yourself if disaster strikes which is a decision every woman should make.)

1:59:39 The debt avalanche could work just as well as the debt snowball IF a person were to "play all the way through," so Dave saying it doesn't work is incorrect. The debt snowball doesn't work unless you "play all the way through," either. For either to work, one has to "play all the way through." I've heard many callers who started using the debt snowball, but didn't "play all the way through" and wound up going back in debt. Just because you start the debt snowball doesn't mean you'll finish it. Either way takes discipline.

The other benefit of pausing investment while paying off consumer debt is that it motivates you to really be gazelle intense knowing nothing is going to retirement while paying off debt. Plus that debt is on things that don’t appreciate. Investing after paying off consumer debt and also paying extra on the mortgage makes sense because the home is also appreciating in value in most circumstances along with your retirement investments building value.
@notgivingmyemail3381
@notgivingmyemail3381 Жыл бұрын
Maybe I just misunderstood what you meant, but paying extra on your mortgage does NOT make sense simply because the home is appreciating. There are other reasons paying extra is beneficial, but the home’s appreciation has nothing to do with the mortgage balance.
@AdvoLegacy1
@AdvoLegacy1 Жыл бұрын
@@notgivingmyemail3381 I think you are misunderstanding my comment. And the appreciation does come into play as a mortgage is a loan on an appreciating asset where a car loan is a loan on a depreciating asset. Not that paying extra on your mortgage makes the home value go up but the spread between your mortgage balance over time as compared to the value of the home is greater.

Their are many variables that come into play. Many of the police brutality cases involve arrest situations. Non compliance and resisting will result in police having to use greater force than the suspect to gain control of the situation. Police work was never meant to be glamorous. Theirs no easy way to take someone into custody who’s doing all in his or her power to prevent it. Are there cases of brutality? Sure. But it’s not as widespread as the media has you believing. And police make millions of human interactions annually. The majority occur without any issues at all.

@@rogerhoward1900 What? Lol. My husband & I are incredibly happy. We are a unit. An extremely happy one, but with normalcy of the occasional “we’re 2 people” fight. It’s not Downton Abbey in love; it’s not The Notebook, but finding someone who works with you & does anything to help/be there/be IT, is amazing. Sorry you’ve never witnessed it.
