23:50 Dave has said numerous times on the show that if his kids don't live up to his standards, they would be cut out of the will. It's so refreshing to hear a Ramsey personality (Dr. John) have a different, more thoughtful opinion. I'm not saying with whom I agree 😉

Dave meant mainly when they were young and not making good choices ect. They are older now and in great standing with Dave,

@@annbroughton2145 I know that. You missed my entire point. Dave said if his kids HAD grossly misbehaved (or started now) he would have cut them out of his will. I never said they had misbehaved, though.

Clearly Dave's never read about the prodigal son. In many states, unless a parent specifically NAMES the kid in the will as disinherited, the son would still inherit. It's not enough in our state, for example, to just leave everything to one of the children without specifically disinheriting the particular child whom a parent does not want to inherit. What impact did the divorce have on the child not wanting to have anything to do with the Dad and his second wife? I'm not in favor of parents discussing their wills with their children unless the parent is fabulously wealthy and wants the kids to understand they aren't inheriting all the money. My husband and I now realize just how much poor health can take out of a life of saving and investing even though we have no debt, a paid-for home, and are financially comfortable. All that can disappear pretty quickly if there is a major illness - so children need to be self-supporting and not counting those chickens until they actually are hatched, as the saying goes. In addition, I'm not in favor of parents holding money and an inheritance over their kids' heads as a method of controlling what they do and how they act. Do I want to support alcohol and drug abuse? No. But, on the other hand, a successful business is not only the owner's money - it's the money of all those who have supported that business, so it's not really "my" money. And, in this case, Dave often says it's God's money - so if he really believes that, can he let God control his children's choices?!

This has become quite common regarding homeowners insurance

The vet with the house is way too neurotic about rates going up. Let's say the mortgage had $100k left on it and the interest rate went up 3%. We're talking about $6,000 in interest over 2 years... And he's going to make 100K in VA disability in that time. Use the urgency as motivation to pay it down faster, but no need to be so worried

The guy with the flood damage most likely got paid the correct amount. Homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. Flood insurance is a separate policy issued by the government. His HO policy most likely paid out on other damages not related to the flood damages. It’s very important to know what’s in your policy. I always educate my customers before I sell them a policy.

So true, and a lot of people don't understand that about flood insurance. They think they're safe bc they're not in a "flood zone." That's what a lot of people in western NC thought, too!

One lady left $50,000 to a dog charity. Her relatives were shocked and tried to fight it. The will was iron clad so the dog charity received the money. Another lady left money to her hair dresser. Wow! You never know.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched and don't spend $$ before you have it! Stranger tales have been told and people are often shocked with what is in a will. A will, once it's probated, becomes public record and anyone can read it upon request.

Well in France you can't cutt your children out of your will. They'll get most of your money whatever. You can choose only for a quarter of what you own. 🤷‍♀️

We're not in France. You can't cut kids out here in the US either, unless you name them specifically as disinherited in the will. It's not enough to state in the will that you're leaving your assets to a particular person or cause.
