One thing I like very much about this one, he's built his personal aeroplane the way he wants it, and he's given it a fighter cockpit ~ HOTAS and right-hand stick, left-hand throttle, despite the conventional left-hand pilot location. That's not the way this is conventionally done, but it is the way I'd like to do it. I do approve. I should also point out, I'm a sucker for this because I have spent not hundreds, but thousand of hours flying a Beech Starship around this general area, in FlighGear. It is wonderful to see someone doing in real life, what I have fantasised about doing for a decade or more.

I really like the new V twin I'm thinking 🤔 V twin RG with dual UL 520t 220hp and Dynon IFR platform with a FLIR system. Don't mind me just dreaming out loud, love the content please keep it coming.

Mr. Randy Ott: Bit of a personal inquiry, but what is your chosen profession, or are you retired, because you sure do enjoy life to the fullest. Are you a commercial pilot, or an aviation engineer or mechanical engineer or an engineer of some sort, because you have previously talked about the interior renovations you have done to your VELO, in addition to all the other work you have done and additions to your VELO such as the interior, exterior wrap, your interior lack of heating dilemma, the sparrow strainer, your instrumentation and avionics panel appears to be current top of the line which I am assuming you did yourself, etc. Also, at the time you purchased your VELO from the bank, what make/model plane did you previously own or what were you transitioning from into the VELO. Thank You and your wife/family for sharing y'all's adventures with the rest of us.

Hi Cliff, I am currently working as an avionics Technician..... Designing and installing new navigation systems in aircraft. I was a software engineer for many years. I also own and run a Martial arts studio. We decided a long time ago that we were going to get the most out of this short life we have. I did a lot with my aircraft , but I always have the proper professionals guiding, inspecting and overseeing all work. I am a private pilot working on my insturment rating. Befor my Velocity we flew a KIS Tr1 for 12 years. It is two place experimental with similar performance to a Vans RV6 . As you can tell , we just Love our Velocity ! It is Fast , efficient and so comfortable to fly in. It makes cross country adventure enjoyable. We have trips to McCall Idaho and Santa Barbra ca in the editing room right now getting ready for release , and we are heading to Denver to see Pikes Peak in a few weeks. Life is good..... gotta sneeze everything you can in before we get toooooo old.

Hello Randy: Good to see you posting again.. Can you at some point give us a closer look at the new engine cooling system... maybe a schematic so that those of us technically inclined can see how it works. Also did you finally get your cabin heat issues resolved?
@RandyOtt4 жыл бұрын
Gilbert Arnold Hi Gilbert . yes we will do a deep dive in the oil cooler reroute in an upcoming video . And No, my latest attempt at better cabin heating have proven inadequate! I am convinced I am not a good Thermal engineer ! lol!

Great video, Randy! Glad to see that you’re flying again! (And blogging again!) However, no beautiful passenger from previous videos, or was that her behind the camera? Plus, I kept waiting for the Sea Ranch airport to come in to view for your landing. I guess there’s more to come? Same Bat channel (glad you’re back!) same Bat time (or not, whatever timeframe works for you!) Happy flights!

GreenTekHaus Yes Helen was shooting the in cockpit video on this flight like many others. Around SF I really have to keep a close eye on airspace and other traffic! So no filming for me.
@Gazsoka662 ай бұрын
above the large city streets and huge wilderness in the mountains the flight route seems for me too low, can you reach an emergency landing site in case of engine failure???
@cliffordcarter88694 жыл бұрын
OK, I am going to ask the stupid question - how did you manage the outside-the-plane filming coming from the tip of left-wing of the aircraft pointed towards the full body of the aircraft, viewing the whole aircraft while flying?!?!
@RandyOtt4 жыл бұрын
Clifford Carter Yes, I put a surfboard sticky GoPro mount about midway up the left winglet. I figured , if it could withstand getting hit by crushing waves ,it would be able to angle 200Mph wind. it ended up doing a great job!

Where are the intake scoops for cooling the engine on this model?
@RandyOtt4 жыл бұрын
The engine cooling inlets are under the wing strakes . It uses , what is referred to as, updraft Cooling . The air enters at the bottom of engine compartment and is forced upward thru the cylinders and then exits out the rear of the cowl.. The bump you see on top is the exit inverted scoop for the rear oil cooler . There is a separate scoop on the bottom of the cowling that’s feeds the oil cooler . 👍
@MidnightWyvern4 жыл бұрын
@@RandyOtt Cool, thanks for the info! I assume they moved the inlets to the top in the later models based on better airflow? Or is it better underneath of the strakes?
@RandyOtt4 жыл бұрын
MidnightWyvern Yes, in later models they changed to the NACA inlets in hopes of reducing Drag. (the enemy of all fast aircraft ). The results were debatable , due to the 2 to 3 inch separation in the boundary layer as it passes over that part of the fuselage . that is why you see those huge Vortex generators sticking up on some Velocities . It mixes the high speed air to get it to stick and go down thru the NACA ducts . The NACA ducts do look cool and are used universally now .

@@RandyOtt Thanks for the info! I watched an interview Duane Swing did last year where he was talking about how the turboprop V-Twin they're working on right now looks like it'll break 300 ktas, which sounds like it'll make for a crazy ride! I'm interested to see what changes they make to the fuselage for the 6-seater, other than just lengthening it of course. Please keep these videos coming! Also, where is there any "storage area" in/on the plane for any luggage, items, etc.
@RandyOtt4 жыл бұрын
Clifford Carter the baggage area is in the wing strakes. Not a lot. Limited to duffle overnight type bags if we have 4 seats filled. If 4 seats are not filled there is lots of room for bigger bags. The newer XL models have bigger baggage areas!
@cliffordcarter88694 жыл бұрын

Regarding the cockpit heating, how about just doing heated seats... may not keep the ambient temps warmer but at least the seats will keep you warm... I saw this on another Velocity plane on You Tube
