I'm forgetting the exact name but there was this one senior royal woman in the Mughal Empire who had objected to Khusrau being handed to Khurram (later Shah Jahan) as she knew that Shah Jahan would kill him. She said that it would start a procedure where Mughals would execute their entire families to become Emperor. If you look back before Jahangir, Humayun and Akbar had both faced rebellions from their brothers. But they both never executed their brothers, instead stripping them of their privileges and asking them to go for pilgrimage to Mecca. When Jahangir became Emperor, his two brothers Murad and Daniyal had already died. But Shah Jahan started killing his brothers and by 1628, he had killed all his brothers (Khusrau, Parvez, Shahryar). Shah Jahan then also executed Hoshang Mirza and Dawar Baksh, the sons of his uncles Murad and Daniyal. Later on these actions would come back to haunt Shah Jahan, when he would be deposed by his own son Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb killed Shah Jahan's favourite son, Dara Shukoh along with Shah Jahan's other sons. Aurangzeb also killed Dara's son Suleiman who Shah Jahan had considered the 7th Emperor.

Ashoka was also very cruel who killed 2 lakh people in Kalinga (modern day Orissa). It is only after this that he had a change of heart and he adopted Buddhism. Pushyamitra Sunga, the last emperor of Mauryan dynasty, killed thousands of peaceful Buddhist monks of India and destroyed their monasteries. So cruelty is not confined to Muslim kings. Any king will become cruel if you get in his way.

Pushyamitra was not a mauryan ruler , he became emperor by killing his own king thereby ending mauryan dynasty .Also getting your own son's eyes out and playing cheap tricks to win battles was very common in mughal rulers than Hindu rulers , which is a fact🙂

Asoka did not have any change of heart. Asoka was a Buddhist way before Kalinga war. Asoka killed his own brother because he was a Jain monk. He killed his another brother and usurped the throne. So Asoka persecuted both Hindus and Jains. Also stop defending Mughals and Islamic rulers. Know that you are also defending slave trade done by them. Not all kings are cruel. Don't generalize just to defend your favourite Islamic rulers.

Yes Ashok was very cruel and remorseless and he was Buddhist before kalinga war, Pushyamitra sungha didn't persecute Budhhist the way he is portrayed, there's a podcast on vaad channel regarding that. The topic here is whether Mughals were the way mainstream media portrays them or they were very cruel. Comparing their cruelty to ancient indian kings is like comparing cycle with motorbikes. Yes there are so many nasty incidents in this dynasty but the present day so called historians try to assert that the mughals being muslim were very cruel. But I respectfully wish this lady to remember the life of Great Ashoka. How many murders he did to gain crown? Just only because of someone's religion you cannot defame that person. It's either kill or get killed. At certain point for many it was not just greed for power, but the power for survival. Honestly I feel we cannot just blame one particular emperor for the cruelty, cruel was (or still is) the society (also can't overlook their lineage genetics). Romanticizing such stories are honestly laughable. Historical romance genre is no doubt appealing, but being irresponsible towards the public and the real history is utterly shameful and ridiculous.

These are medieval rulers with things expected from them. They are glorified not for what they did personally but the battles they fought the extent of the empire the wealth they created the architecture they made the stability in politics they brought. They were such strong empire even distant middle east and europeans were scared of them. The british were so amazed that they borrowed the word mogul into their dictionary to explain anything huge. Political infighting, killing relatives for power, religious intolerance, multiple wives and not giving respect to women those days were so common. Pushyamitra sangha, dhana nanda, chandragupta maurya, ashoka, bimbisara, ajathshatru, raghoji bhonsle, tarabai(who disguised her son for power), mihirakaula all are in this category. Hindu s desecrating buddhist temples or muslims breaking hindu temples os all we talk about but what about pallava ruler narasimhavarman sacking chalukya temples, the chandella s looting pratihara temples. It is the tyrion lannister s words “ things are expected of them”. To be huge and to be righteous is a different thing. There may be incidences of wars in all cultures but there has been no incidences of family-in-fighting. Also, if they should be glorified for their architecture, they should also show the family fighting and also, the battles and what they took. You say mediaeval rulers, look at all islamic countries and check how they get succeeded. It is their religion not the period of time.

And shah jahan, Aurangzeb and khilji succession stories are popular not just in history books but also in folklore and drammas. Else medha wouldnt know it either. I am sorry if you werent aware of it. But so are the horrific succession stories of bimbisara and ashoka . All kings did this. In History theres a popular saying- either eat or get eaten. @@pigeonlover935 no they never pop out each others eyes but war of succession did break out between his successors. Family infighting was the point not popping out eyes. And the Marathas at Shivaji s time were just establishing the empire werent that rich like Mughals with harem full of kids and too many successors. 2 sons and even they wanted control. Infighting is natural whenever there is power struggle. Infact sambhaji had defected to the mughals while shivaji was alive only to return unrepentant. There are stories of Soyabai trying to put Rajaram on throne by poisoning him. Sambhaji took control of Raigad fort and imprisoned Rajaram, his wife and Soyabai and killed the commander to become a king. Sambhaji even went ahead to execute his step mom Soyabai. Its ok to rever a figure and worship but its not okay to remove a part of the history to prove the pedestal your putting them in. @@aishwaryasDiariesWell among hindu kings, there was a rule that the eldest son should succeed the father as king, 2nd, 3rd sons were given royal titles & made satraps of small kingdoms. All other relatives were also given royal titles and authority. So succession was mostly peaceful, cooperative, harmonious and mostly celebratory, there used to be week long celebrations when the crown prince was made king. But there was no such rule among muslim rulers, Like the lady in the vdo said, it was free for all, hence the succession was always brutal and gruesome and heartwrenching.

Actually, if you see this thing from Jahangir's point of view, this thing will seem different and even emotional. When Jahangir writes about Khusrau Mirza's escape, he says that Khusrau Mirza was distracted and preoccupied and didn't have belief in his father's affection. He also says that he should have shown the prince more affection so that not even a hair extent of doubt remained in his mind. Also, a few days after Khusrau Mirza was captured, Jahangir went to visit the Shah ara garden in Kabul along with his court and family. He ordered the chains to be taken off Khusrau's feet so that he could walk in that garden. Jahangir writes that his fatherly affection didn't allow him to exclude his son from walking in that garden. In 1619, Jahangir was probably in Vrindavan or Mathura if I am not wrong. During this time he writes that the dust from the brows of his son was washed with the pure water of forgiveness.

This is false illustration..Jahangir didn't pluck out Khusrau's eyes...He was killed in 1622 by his Brother Mirza Khurram(later called as Shahjahan)...in the race of becoming next emperor. Though is was true that Salim(Jahangir) didn't liked his elder son Mirza Khusrau...but he himself didn't killed him.

Today's generation like us need to be aware of this fact because sooner we have to again face such issue once Muslim population get's to a critical tipping point.

Unfortunately mindset was to make an example, who ever tried to become a king will have to show power otherwise he will become a lesson. This you can see in Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire and even in Indus Valley kingdoms. In order to get respect, kings will show ruthless attitude. Look what British did to Bahadur Shah Zafar.

Even Ashoka torturedand killed his brothers does that make him a bad guy? Obv not, Power just doesn’t come to anyone, you have to work for it and have strong will, if we use this logic every ruler in history with significant power and influence is a barbaric human being, Alexander’s military campaign killed millions of people, this doesn’t make him any less great

Everything doesnt need a hidden agenda. Who is doing the hiding anyway for what purpose? Think of other possibilities - no one offered him a role in such a film, somebody did talk about it but could not arrange financing, he was too busy shooting other films and could not agree to certain dates, he did not want to act with a specific costar, etc.

why are history books only about mughals now? literally 4-5 chapters that are about kings of hinduism ig in the whole school life. that was not so in the now parent generation's school life. who is responsible for these changes and why is a secular state not giving enough knowledge from all perspectives to their kids is the real question. its not even just mughals. british consists such a major chunk again. europe and other contries have a portion. history is supposed to teach our own mistakes. our own past. not invaders.

History is like this only, one who remains in power will always dominate ruthlessly, be it Mughals, Ashok, Romanians or any other kingdom. In old times there was nothing like morals or human values, domination was the only way to rule... Gradually everybody got civilized. This is civilization. In history one who enjoyed power did same by blood bath as it's the only way to remain in power those times. Now a days, People, politicians and historians take their liberty to highlight and emphasize their version of history to impress selected audiences for their favours. Its not a liberal thought it's just the way we learned from history and got civilized. Back in times there were no human rights or peace making forces so it was all of power and dominance.

One more achievements of the Mughals … they gave a lot of content to Ranveer… anyways some stuff that this lady does not know and our boy did not bother to check.. It was Khurram who killed khusrau and not jehangir as part of war of succession… this is important as this lady tries to portray jehangir as so barbaric that he killed his son… not a saint but certainly not a son killer … Also people should note that after Akbar most Mughals had more than 50% rajput blood … so should we start portraying rajputs as barbaric ? … the tone and tenor of these discussions is us vs them and we are so good but they are barbaric … obviously they are long dead but that doesn’t stop people from viewing this as a dog whistle to portray today’s Muslims as barbaric just by religious association with some barbaric horde long dead … such discussions are as toxic as the religious debates on Godi media … but our dumb interviewer is getting his views so who cares
