My second date with my wife was grocery shopping, then a blanket fort and movie. During the movie, she looked over and asked "Can we cuddle?" At the end of the night, I walked her out the door and it was lightly raining. And she asked me "Can I kiss you?" Four years and plenty of love and fights later, and I'm currently watching this in bed with our 2 month old cuddled against my chest. Postpartum depression has hit her hard, and our finances are rocky, and we've been stressed and fighting a lot lately, but I still look at her and see the girl I met at a Sonic on a Sunday afternoon, then spent the next three hours walking around the park and talking without a care in the world. Being married and being a parent is hard, I'll admit. But I'm glad she's the person I'm doing it with. ❤️

I love the coregulation in that final question. She saw him getting emotional, and even without hearing anything she reached out to touch his knee and reassure him that the vulnerability was ok. Even after taking off the headphones, she never shamed his emotions or vulnerability. That's such a huge deal with how society and pop media often addresses male vulnerability, and it was really beautiful to see.

As a woman who hasn’t always been in healthy relationships, I’d prefer “can I kiss you” to “I want to kiss you” as the second one could be more difficult to turn down without feeling triggered.
@anastasiagraboviuk60792 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! It's harder if you have troubles with saying "no". For me "Can i kiss you?" would not seem as a sign of a lesser confidence, but as a sign that he is concerned with what I want. Also I'm really sad to admit that so many guys I've met don't bother asking at all - I think they probably see it as a vulnerability or something

My ex dumped me after we had been dating for about two years, and one of the things he told me while he was breaking up with me was that I was the best girlfriend he had ever had but he couldn't bring down the walls he'd built around his heart. He also said quite a few times during the course of the relationship that he thought he didn't deserve me, and that I was a better person than he was. When he dumped me I was more in love with him every day and had no intention of breaking up with him.

I'd miss you, but I'll live. I could not figure out why at 16 I understood this, and at almost 20 he didn't. We weren't together incredibly long. Angrier. That's definitely how I feel since my marriage ended. Little things that I would be annoyed by one moment and forget the next, simmer for days. Then the next thing happens and the last twenty come up with it, and they're all simmering together. I am scared of what might happen if it boils over. I know what started the fire heating everything up, but I have no idea how to put it out, so things can be like they were before. All I need in a partner is someone patient and kind that can see the good in me and my son and love us for that, and at least tolerate my cats and my dog.

What helps me with anger is letting the energy flow through my body. I take a brisk walk or even a run, maybe a challenging yoga flow. Everyone has their own kind of movement and workout they like, so you should do yours. But all emotions are so much better processed when you get in motion too. And everything that might trigger stress hormones especially, coz the body just works that way - fight or flight. It gets ready to move you, so the hormones will drop if you do, and it's less likely the emotions get stored in your body as tension. Not a doctor, just speaking from experience.

6 years here and no result still. I would say 4 of the 6 we did nothing, last 2 have been a cycle of doing something then nothing, maybe next year we'll get to the good results finally. It's my second relationship. I sometimes find couples with a lot of relationship experience to be good at choosing their partners. You just become a better judge of character especially after a break up with an ex that cheat on you like in this couple here.
@katherinedobias74992 жыл бұрын
@Day i know people who've been married for 30+ years and have only just started working on things and growing. What's available today to help relationships grow wasn't available years ago. Who's to say any amount of years is enough to judge when a relationship is a dead end or not? This one couple I know celebrated their 20 something year anniversary and the husband said we've been married for 5 because 12 years were bad, 2 years they weren't together, and the rest was spent on kids.
@katherinedobias74992 жыл бұрын
@Day you probably think I'm unhappy or underwhelmed or sad. I actually can still find happiness and be okay with the way things are because that's the reality of relationships it's not always at its best or optimal state it's not always growing or developing. It happens in stages and at different paces. For some it happens within a few years others within a decade. These things take time and I don't mind putting a bit more time into it because starting all over with someone else takes a lot more effort and it might be a waste of time on top of another 6 years wasted. But i would say out of those 6 years four have been a waste, and 2 of the years have been productive. There is a plan in place and now we're waiting on result hopefully by next year. I don't have any regrets though. It used to be a lot worse in those 4 wasted years, but as we both grow we have somehow found our neutral state and now working towards a better one. Although sometimes there are setbacks.

I have times where I need some space due to my mental health being quite bad, but I try to be very open about my problems with the guy. It is nice as I feel seen by him. Sometimes I might doubt the relationship, but that is mostly because I have never had someone this supportive before. I think without my partner becoming who I am today would've taken twice as long. Changing things that I've always wanted to be different about myself because I saw that it was hurting not just me but this person I love was massive. Having a partner who celebrated the things that I was insecure about Help me to develop the ability to embrace me for being me. Having somebody that inspired me to change to fit them better, but with no expectation to change in ways that didn't feel good or authentic, and to receive that kind of effort back… I've learned so much about the life I want, and who I want to be through my partner. Growing and changing together is one of the biggest honours and privileges, and one of the biggest joys I've ever experienced. Are used to remind myself I'd be okay if we have a broke up because everything felt so good I was terrified to lose it. I know I will be OK if we became people who weren't good for each other. But I have the confidence that isn't going to happen. Time is help me learn the kind of effort a healthy relationship takes, what feeding a relationship feels like, and has proven to me that we can be grounded with each other and then that's not scary when you can trust the other person to be honest with you, to communicate what they need, to be persistent and understanding each other. Oops, now I'm crying at the end of KZbin comment haha. I hope everybody meets somebody who brings out the best in them, with whom they can address problems as a team and never treat each other like a problem, and who they can trust and lean on and and celebrate and be celebrated by and love and grow with authentically.

I wasn't completely over my ex yet, but that changed in a couple of days, and we've been dating ever since. It is not 90-10. It's 60-40. You go 60% of the way and let them move in the other 40% to accept the kiss. If they don't move yet don't back away, then you can always try saving the moment by then asking for consent if they didn't get what you were previously going for. 90-10 does not give enough room for a confortable rejection.
