“You drew stars around my scars now I’m bleeding” is probably my top taylor swift lyric! She condensed the idea of talking about the things that caused almost irreversible damage to James because she felt safe. He then made it better and glorified the parts of her that was most broken. And in that I assume he said he would never do that to her. THEN when it all went down he did the exact same thing that caused her initial trauma, reopening a wound that she is left to take care for. Only a genius could put that entire story into ONE line.

Kids are so smart they really do pick up on things. I remember speaking really loudly and giving my nephew my good drawing power and pencil’s because it was the closest paper nearby while his mommy and daddy fought on the phone and I could see his sweet little body tense up and all I wanted was to protect him from it and make it better for him. And that’s all I could do in the moment.

I really love this song and it gets me everytime because I feel is describing my first love, a teenager one and exactly happened that. When she says "when I felt like I was an old cardigan Under someone's bed You put me on and said I was your favorite" makes me remember of me being insecure about myself & him being the only person that saw me and how I really was beyond my looking. Happened after some years the playing around and not being sure about which girl he was picking, felt like being used and hide and she have a lot of lines about this here too. Felt exactly this and I've been feeling it all my life " I knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs The smell of smoke would hang around this long". Is just something you know with some people and you're always thinking about the what ifs.

Love this song, it’s one of the songs that I have a music video or a little movie play in my head. I picture a woman dressed as described in the beginning walking confidently looking at her phone and smiling. As she thinks back to all the scenes. With every chorus it shows her cleaning her childhood bedroom finding this cardigan under her bed. First packing for college, moving out into a home, and the memories that come with that cardigan.

Interesting input on “Peter losing Wendy” line. I always thought she meant it as in, in the book Wendy loses Peter, because she loses her childhood and grows up whereas “trying to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy” to me is like he tried to make it seem as though he lost her (Peter) as if she was the youth he was missing.

I don’t think I ever loved an addict but I did and do love someone who struggles with being emotional abusive but I’ve recently come to realize through more accurate portrayals of abuse on tv that not only was I a victim and still occasionally am, but I’m also guilty of emotional abuse. I struggle ALOT with my anger and dealing with it and sometimes I take it out emotionally and blame it on others but I’m working on it and I do, I come back to them and apologize and I mean it but it’s a struggle i want to change, yes I’m in therapy. And yes I screw up over and over I’m getting better, but it’s still a struggle. But I’ll catch myself and be like “that was manipulative and I shouldn’t have said that”. Or something of that nature. I got daddy issues snd health trauma up the wazoo. But my mom always says how you feel or disease or even menstruation is no excuse for treating people badly.
@mendwithmere
@mendwithmere Жыл бұрын
I hear you so much on this. It's a struggle, but I often wonder what comes first, the chicken or the egg? meaning, were you emotionally abused first and your reaction to it, which has been labeled as emotional abuse (by you or your abuser first?), was in order to cope with it? Sometimes, typically in narcissistic abuse, the abuser will blame your reaction to their bad behavior and put focus their attention on it to put the focus or blame on you. They will see your reaction as more of an offense than the initial problem. Just keep this in mind when you blame yourself. Did you have to react this way in order to cope with the abuse daily? I admire your awareness and desire to change. You are already ahead of the game!
@mcnoneya
@mcnoneya Жыл бұрын
@@mendwithmere that’s exactly the reaction I got for yrs, it made me think I was the problem eventually I learned what gaslighting was, I could never word it myself ( I have some health problems that can effect my thinking and communication sometimes and i would always end up apologizing for something that wasn’t my fault, often times out of exhaustion and I would get confused by their words so I’d be like “fine I’m at fault, I’m sorry” or something along those lines, and I actually believed it a lot of the time. I’m 32 next month and it only recently dawned on me that what was happening and happened in the past was emotional abuse because it wasn’t the typical belittling orinsults, it was twisting of words, manipulation and gaslighting. Thankfully we are at a better place but for a long time I thought “oh if they just admit they were wrong I can move on” I realized thats not really true. You can move on without them admitting and you can still have trouble moving on even if they do admit their wrong doing. I’m still learning to let go, they are better but still struggle so I’m like always wondering what kind of mood they will be in( thankfully we don’t live together) so part of me still holds onto the past. It’s weird. letting go of the past but still protecting yourself in the future from getting hurt, guarding your heart essentially. Okay I could go on. Psychology is fascinating and boy do I have a bunch of stuff I could sit and unpack especially at night I become much more reflective 🤷🏻‍♀️ and have a tendency to unload my drama on ppl, then I wake up and am like “what did I do?” Lol 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you so much for doing Cardigan, cause this is one of my favourite songs from Taylor. Also, without your reaction video’s I’ve probably never listened to Taylor’s songs as they are so deep and firstly I didn’t really understand them. However through your explanations I was able to discover and appreciate her lyrics that are portraying the many-many layers of the human soul throughout her songs and now it has become such a mending experience to me. So thank you💓And also wishing you all the strength because of your divorce ❤️ Could you please do the song “Willow” from the album Evermore next? Cause Willow seems to be an extension of Cardigan. Also a little tip. A lot of the songs that you have done a review on not only have a lyric video but an actual videoclip with amazing visuals that give away even more clues regarding the meaning of the songs. Cardigan, Bejewelled and Willow (sister song of Cardigan) also have video clips with lots and lots of hidden messages in there as well. Could you also interpret those layers of the songs?

i share with you the same the same thinking about Taylor's intelligence. I think she is much smarter than her fans or the celebrity environment thinks. Each lyric is thought out and evaluated in a much more precise way than simply an "artistic expression". I think she is a person who clearly shows what she wants to show and what she wants her fans and press to know about her, which is understandable, she is a person very harassed by the media and by her fans, so it's a very smart move on her part.

But to me "And when you are young, they assume you know nothing. I knew everything when I was young". I don't see it like you, I really feel it like when you're young and people tells you: you don't know about love or life or real suffering yet. But well sometimes you do and you meet a person that you already know how is gonna make you feel for many years, most of the times, at least in my case, you're right. You don't have that kind of certainly always. And ofc I felt and lived these as I thought "But I knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs The smell of smoke would hang around this long 'Cause I knew everything when I was young I knew I'd curse you for the longest time Chasin' shadows in the grocery line I knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired And you'd be standin' in my front porch light"... The notion that James is female blew my mind. Why validate people's misinterpretation about gender when Taylor literally talked about James using the pronoun "he." She joshes about it with Jack and Aaron in the Long Pond video you cite. It's fine to just say, Taylor thought of it differently, and making sense of James as female is creative. And it is a fine way of interpreting the song. Other than that comment... This is my first watch and I am now a furious subscriber.

Hi! Thank you for watching! I'm not sure; it would depend on if he was genuinely remorseful, but from what is implied from the song August, the cheating occurred many times. It was not a one-time deal. I think she has issues with self-esteem so it could have impacted her decision to take James back. Let me think on this more and I'll go over it in the next videos! What do you think?
@AiSayuriChan
@AiSayuriChan Жыл бұрын
@@mendwithmere Thanks for your reply! :) I agree with you. I don't think James didn't know what he did (Betty even says "when you're young they assume you know nothing - but I knew ...", so if she applies this to herself, I think it's fair to assume that some part of her also feels this way about James). if it happened multiple times, if James was a serial cheater, there's no way Betty wouldn't have suffered again after taking him back, right? It's also based on her song... Feeling like an old cardigan and so on, I do believe you're right assuming it's based on low self-esteem. So while it would've been healthier for her to stay away from him (which is what I wish for), I believe she took him back in the end. It's just sad, like watching a friend doing the same mistake over and over again, you know? I'm looking forward to your next videos! :D

@@mendwithmere Ok that’s gonna be a little ling but it’s all worth it, all the details are very important to understand taylor’s music ever since 2013.😅 Well, first of all: Betty - Karlie Kloss’s second name is Elizabeth, shortened betty. James - Taylor Swift is named after JAMES Taylor!!! Also - James, Inez and Betty are the 3 daughters of Blake Lively who Taylor is very close with. It’s been confirmed that these folklore characters are named after these 3 girls… meaning James is LITERALLY a girl.💀😂 she was so funny for that, bc james is typically a boys name and she counted on that for hetwashing and hetsplanation (as well as the “love triangle” & “james is a 17 year-old boy” hetwashing) because she couldn’t just release all of a sudden out of the blue an explicit sapphic song without hetwashing it a bit. Instead, she made sure the narrator’s name would have many “coincidences”, let’s say. There are many speculations what Betty’s party actually is. One of them is maybe it’s one of the two public weddings Karlie Kloss (her -maybe ex- girlfriend) had with her “husband” Josh Kushner (there are many speculations about him being a beard… as well as joe alwyn for taylor). Taylor, despite being Karlie’s very public “beat best friend” for over 5 years at this point, didn’t show up to neither of the weddings, which was SO “weird” considering how close they were and Karlie went to Taylor’s reputation tour just a couple months before the wedding and they took pictures together.. Maybe Taylor is like - if i showed up, will you kiss me on the porch in front of all your stupid - maybe homophobic - friends that came here to celebrate this “wedding”? Of course not..😞 (don’t forget the Kushner family being there…🤢) ALSO - in my opinion, the kissing part refers, among other layers and possible interpretations to KISSGATE. In 2014, Karlie and Taylor went with their friends (Josh, Karlie’s “boyfriend” at the time, was there too only at the beginning) to a concert of the 1975, and they were at the VIP section on the balcony where Taylor and Karlie maybe didn’t think people would actually see them, and they were SO touchy all evening, and then they made out and kissed, and people took videos and pictures of them that night and the ENTIRE internet was exploding and talking about them. taylor was (probably) drunk that night, she went home and liked like i think hundreds of explicit kaylor posts that night. then a couple days after that, she wrote on twitter: “As my 25th birthday present from the media, I'd like for you to stop accusing all my friends of dating me.” (then she wrote dress lmfao😂😂) anyway, that sounds like forced damage control. so heartbreaking.💔 also, when taylor and karlie and all their friends were leaving the concert, you could see taylor literally SHINING, smiling so WIDE looking sooo happy, and karlie there too and they’re lipsticks were smudged, and their friends’ faces were SO serious and lowkey angry, like traumatized and frowning. maybe they realized what taylor didn’t… what she did.. kissing karlie and being SO explicitly touchy and romantic with her in front of the entire place… in such a “CROWDED ROOM🙃😌”.. there’s of course SOOO MUCH to cover, if you want i could tell you everything you need to know.🙃🙃

@@exclusivevideos9423 yes!! Thank you for all this!! I don’t think I’m going to talk about the Karlie kloss etc in the video bc I just want it to be taken from a queer lens and I don’t want to make the song about outing anyone but I’m not sure. What do you think?

“when you are young they assume you know nothing, but i knew you” when you are young and try to come out, older people will invalidate your queerness saying you’re too young and don’t know anything about life. But the narrator KNEW this person. She knew queer love. She knew her lover, and that was enough for her to know that “she knew everything when she was young”. 🖤💔💜
