Florence will become one of your favourite artists, just knowing your taste. I recommend 'Grace' from the same album (it's about her and her sister) if you want something just as personal and revealing about her.

Grace is absolutely one of my favourite FATM songs.... It's so gentle and so raw. It's a three way look at Florence, her issues with addiction, and her relationship to her younger sister. Super powerful 💕

Oh girl you just entered to one of the most beautiful universes, there are no words no explain how amazing florence's music and lyrics are. I need to recommend you "The Odyssey" it's her film and it's divided in chapters that corresponds to each of the songs from their third album "How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful" it's inspired by Homero's Odyssey and Dante's Inferno and has a lot of symbolism and meanings, I think you would enjoy it very much. The first chapter is "What Kind of Man" :)

this video always gives me chills! i believe the statue is maybe the hunger itself, people spend centuries trying to understand this insatiable need we feel through science, art, we preach about it, we perform about it and it’s never enough, and that’s why it gives me chills, it’s just the human experience, we don’t need to understand it from afar, we just need to be.
@mrovvka68826 ай бұрын
omg I'm so happy you reacted to Florence especially this song. I remember listening to this one in highschool and how much it helped me when I was mentally struggling, just to hear that 'we all got the hunger' made me feel i'm not alone and I felt so connected to others who may feel pain and lost just like me and it gave me hope and made me feel at ease. Also I love the music video so much, especially her dance is just so beautiful and powerful and shows how our bodies are capable to make art and release our stress in a beautiful way and to me it connects so well to the ED she mentioned at the beggining. Dance can help us connect to our body and see worth and beauty in it despite how it looks.

IVE BEEN WAITING FOR A FLORENCE REACTION FOR AGES YAYY!!! not watched the video yet but hoping you enjoyed hunger. If u did I would really recommend Free (finding a moment's escape from anxiety and chaos), King (what it means to be a woman, what it means to be an artist, and is just SUCH an empowering song in general) and St Jude (dealing with grief and loss). they are three very different songs which i truly think you would love. Anyway, super excited to watch the video!!

@nalijaaa6 ай бұрын
I couldn't believe it when I saw the notification. I've always wanted you to react to Florence's songs because they have such deep meaning, and you chose one of my favorites. As always, you nailed the analysis. Florence once said: "This song was never meant to be a song. It was a poem, written in an effort to understand the ways I looked for love in things that were not love. I was never thinking it would be a song, but maybe that’s the point. And by singing it out loud, together we become a choir, a chorus, higher than the hurt, louder than loneliness." She went through an eating disorder and a drug addiction that lasted into adulthood (she is currently sober). Another recommendation for a Florence song would be "Free," which is also very psychological. Mere, I know I've asked this before, but I really dream of the day you'll react to "Human Sadness" by The Voidz. This song is very interesting because Julian Casablancas wrote it about his troubled relationship with his father, and it's so painful that it's 10 minutes long, and you can't even understand the lyrics properly without reading along, due to the deliberate effects and distortion.I think this song helps me understand a lot about Julian's personality. Julian's parents divorced when he was 6 years old. His father cheated on his mother with a much younger model. His mother fell into depression, and he did too because the atmosphere at home became horrible when his father left. Julian started drinking when he was 9 years old, and a few years later, he was sent to a boarding school (his story is quite similar to Lana's). He felt even more alone during that time and, of course, didn't resolve his issues with alcohol. This only made him more depressed. It took years for him to start getting along with his father again, and he never completely forgave him. I think a lot of this song is also about the fear of repeating the same mistakes as your father, Freud would love to meet Julian. In fact, this song was written after his father's death.

So happy to see you reviewed one of my favorite songs! To me, the statue represents the timelessness of the human condition. As in, it's an old artifact, that reminds us that even thousands of years ago, humans wanted to create more. Also, how it is displayed in a museum reminds me a bit of religious themes, people were shown in essence worshiping this figure of man.

@emmavink6 ай бұрын
I've always understood this song to ultimately mean that the one thing that ultimately makes us not alone is that all of us have our own hunger in our lives. We all have longing and sadness and joy... I think she is saying that in the moments we let go of everything and just celebrate life immediately in our bodies, through movement and music are the moments in which we are the least alone 🥰 Yes, Florence has struggled with an eating disorder, alcoholism and I think to a slightly lesser degree, addiction to prescription pain medications. She also has severe dyslexia that has caused her serious anxiety throughout her life. You will be SHOCKED if you compare how quiet she is in real life compared to how audacious and goddess like she is on stage. To me FATM so often operates on a deeply emotional way alongside excellent lyrics and music. But her lyrics aren't often as intentional as someone like Taylor's. She moves a lot between describing her personal life and commenting on the human condition. It's sometimes jarring to know which she is talking about, so I've found with Florence's work, it's far more valuable to first concentrate on how the song as a whole makes you feel. She absolutely incorporates art and dance into her music and writing as equally important artistic expressions to create an entire experience. So yes, absolutely, Hunger is most definitely a positive song, I've always felt 🥰

Florence has such a powerful voice and sings some truly validating and astounding lyrics. I was thinking of some other Florence song to recommend you, but for some reason this one came to mind: Coming clean by Searows. It's the first song I've ever geniuenly cried to. I don't really cry unless I force it, though as soon as it started playing it just dragged the tears out of me. It describes quiet perfectly a situation I'm currently in with a person I'm unreasonably devoted to. It's very much the opposite of Florence's sound, but it was so liberating to listen to it. Thank you Mere for each single reaction you've been giving us recently, you're shining right now and it's so inspiring to see someone capable of not falling apart during a hard time. Thank you

That interlude, "when you work your body baby..." she's singing to herself. Not to the audience. She's singing to her younger self. Also, i think the "Hunger" is love. How we all search for it, a version of it. And we try and fill that void, if it's lacking, with substances and punishment and abuse. So she replaces love with literal hunger (eating disorder), or how she tries to find a replacement with substance abuse

People feel emptiness. There is a deep hole we need to fill it in. Now the key to understand the meaning is, the statue was actually a person. Used to be. Many people offered love. But it is not enough. The emptiness makes she/he stoned (turned into statue). Because some people choose to feed their emptiness. And some choose not to feed it because they know what they want is actually never exist. Thus, at the end of the video, the world is ending. And the statue is still there. We kinda trapped with so many people expressing their weirdly way of loving, that we forget about those who choose not to feed the their emptiness with something they don't fond of. Numb like a stone/statue.

My goodness I love the imagery of this music video. A lot of the religious symbolism felt like a discussion. The religious guilt that comes with your own lack of care to your body. Either starving yourself or wounding yourself or having substance addictions, and having those be sins in the eyes of religion really hurt a lot of people. That shame that you did something like that it really stays with people raised in religious backgrounds. I think hunger here is also a notion of hunger as desire. Doubting Thomas, the guy who didn't believe Jesus rose from the dead, pressed his hand into Jesus' wounds to verify his validity. It mixes with the symbolism of doubt and conflict. To desire a slimmer body or desire something forbidden (same sex attraction like alluded in the video). That hunger is demonized and this song felt so healing.
