i love the sippy cup lyric that goes "pill diet, pill diet, if they give you a new pill then you will buy it, if they tell you to kill yourself than you will try it. all the makeup in the world wont make you less insecure, you've got weights in your pockets when you go to the doctors, your favourite candies cotton, thats why all your teeth are rotten, silly girl... with silly boys..." thats an entire verse but its my favourite part in the entire song. simply because it is so hard spitting. its spitting the cold hard and harsh facts.

I watched this video back in middle school (i am 23 now) and it really helped me get over a huge insecurity which was my crooked smile. I slowly stopped covering it when I laughed and stopped wishing that I could get braces. IK that Melanie helped so many of us young women learn to love and accept ourselves in so many ways and continues to do so to this day

Just got a little clarity. The woman who got the surgery in the video and then had her husband pretty much cheat on her wasn't Melanie it was a girl on TV. Melanie switched the channel after sitting back down and stumbled across that. Which is why after she watched it she took the wig and padding off realizing what she was trying to do wasn't right.

“Don’t be dramatic, it’s only some plastic. No one will love you if you’re unattractive!” Bro that line pains me yet I love it. It speaks what almost everyone thinks at some point in our lives. People say that “looks don’t matter”, but everyone tries to be pretty and appealing so they can get a lover. People feel ugly so they try to make themselves pretty with makeup, plastic surgery, dressing up, or acting differently just to suit the group or person they want to be with. The saddest thing is, is that you don’t notice your own beauty, you only see the “ugly” views in your own reflection. Whether it be pimples, face shape, body weight, your hair and just everything else about you. You’re all so beautiful even if you don’t realise it. Stay safe, and don’t change yourself for someone even if they tell you to. That just proves that this person/people only want you for your looks/appearance/personality. Stay yourself and only change for yourself. Love yourselves!💗

I've had the oportunity to confront my childhood bully (one of them) years later and he said he was just saying those things to joke and make fun of me but never actually belived them. not that others opinion should matter at all but it gave me comfort and strenght to not let that get to me anymore

Melanie’s music is something else, she’s incredibly honest and hits the nail in the head for many issues from this: body image to family dynamics. She’s one of a kind. Definitely one of the best to come out of a talent show
@mistressthorn

"Don't be dramatic, it's only some plastic. No one'll love you if you're unattractive." "Will a pretty face make it better?" "Do you swear you'll stay forever, even if her face don't stay together?" God, Melanie's songwriting is just incredible! She tells the story and sums up our feelings perfectly in just a few simple sentences. I adore her music, but this song is absolutely one of my favorites. And you know it never ends when it comes to appearances in our society. Someone could have every single physically attractive quality that society says you need to have and guess what? They'll still find something wrong! There is no such thing as perfection, we all have flaws and they're all beautiful. I still struggle with body image issues but I try to combat that by pointing out the parts of me I do like and accepting the parts that I struggle with but can't change. To anyone who's struggling right now, know that who you are is enough. You are beautiful just as you are, please don't ever change yourself to fit into the mold society wants or to please another person. Let your beautiful self shine through!

I love the uncensored horror that Mrs Potato Head portrays. I never cared about my appearance as a girl, until the people around me start to make comments about how I look and how I dress and make me uncomfortable in my own skin. This kind of beliefs often aren't with a person when they're borned, they've been trained to doubt themselves this way by society. I've never gone to the extreme of physically changing myself for someone, and just like Crybaby, I needed to see the pain that comes with trying to fit someone's beauty standard when it isn't truly you.

When I was a teen, my uncle told me I should look more like the girl on the other table, she was wearing shorts and a tank top, and sneakers, her hair was curled with no frizz, she had makeup on, she looked very pretty I was wearing jeans and a shirt, hair all frizzy and wearing tennis shoes. I felt so depressed, I was 13, and after that, I used my birthday money or Christmas money to buy some foundation/bb cream, blush, eyeliner, lipstick and masara and I practiced using makeup, I wore them all the time and the same uncle looked at me during a vacation and told me that I should look like my aunt, no lipstick no foundation and just some mascara and eyeshadow and he told me I was wearing too much for my age. I felt it again, depression creeping up on me, and I know, no matter what I'd do they'll point something out. It was sick! I'm 25 years old now and happily married with a wonderful husband who makes me feel beautiful no matter what time or day, I don't wear makeup that often anymore and I'll wear them if I feel like it.

Melanie is absolutely my favorite artist out there. Some may call her fans 'pick me's', because she's so different from other artist and may sometimes make 'pick me' songs, but I completely disagree. Her music isn't pick me, it's story telling, and can sometimes help people with their trauma recovery and all. I myself didn't grow up traumatized, I just really like her music, but that doesn't change the fact that it can really make you realize how it feels to be in those situations. I do kinda relate to this song though, as I myself was too a victim of the female body standards, and I'm still on my ed recovery. Though I never got got as far as plastic surgery, this song still gets to me, since I know how it feels to want to fit in the standards.

The man in the video portrays as society. Society sets a beauty standard that if you don’t have the look, you won’t be loved or attractive. In my point of view, the young lady obv. Was already beautiful because she grew into her mother’s face but she allowed society to change her because she didn’t let the beauty standard of a slim body, perky lips and blond hair. The lyrics speaks for itself as well as the meaning. You were already beautiful the way you are, you don’t need to change anything of it or for anyone. Be happy who you are and be happy the way you are.

I am a male and i can confirm that beauty standards suck. I remember being 5 and watching TV with my dad and i noticed in every movie we watched, there was a guy i REALLY wanted to look like, great hair, great skin, everything. I still feel like that. And when i was 13, i ruined myself even more and i started doing SH. And i didnt stop, i COULDNT stop. I am now 19 and i got my first house cause i can legally move out of my parents house. I am still doing SH. Luckily i have been clean for a week, but yall, dont do what i did. It ruins you even more. If i could stop the SH addiction i would. I want yall to know you matter and you dont have to change anything about yourself. The only thing that needs to be changed is the world if its making us THAT insecure. And especially the young women. You all are said to be more into beauty and could ruin your real beauty by changing yourself for others. Love yourself, that goes to EVERYONE.

I love Melanie's work. It's visceral and straight to the point. I remember I used to suffer a lot of rejection and bodyshaming. I almost died of Anorexia, I reached 38Kg. The internet at the time was crawling with boys comparing ordinary girls to hollywood celebs as if we weren't good enough. It was disgusting. In the end, I realized I couldn't care less. I decided to *live* and even if a multitude of those modern t0xic men, the so-called "Red Pills" that came out of darkness ran over me, I'd still be good about myself.❤ It's so weird how human beings firmly believe they are worth something only if they find a partner, marry and have children. I think this has to be done because one wants it, not because of peer pressure! And I should know. I'm an *ace* , and very fortunate to be one! 🙏🏼 I wouldn't stand having to be in an abusiv3 relationship just not to be "alone". Something I don't understand is that "alone" concept. It's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to be alone. I don't understand why not dating or getting married means "alone".

What I noticed about the line “potatoes turn to french fries” is that potatoes are usually bigger, while french fries are thin, how everyone wants to be thin and skinny like french fries, and never big like potatoes.

I love Melanie Martinez so much. Mrs Potato Head is my favorite song by her--everytime i listen to it i almost cry, it is such a perfect song in my opinion. It shows how much horrible lies afab people are told about our worth.

It’s funny you talk about guys making demands, but in my current potential relationship she doesn’t like suits, so when i spend time with her i will be dressing down for her benefit. We all have to decide what we’re willing to sacrifice for the person we want to be important to.

This whole song describes how i feel abt myself. I have always tried to find way to make people love for me not my looks. What makes it worse is my depression. And inhate the fact that i cant even view myself as pretty

I was bullied when I was a child because of being tall, skinny and having round, small head and a baby face. I was bullied heavily by everyone - children, teen, adults, elders and I was A CHILD. Now I'm 23 and the trauma has severe consequences. I really hope that people will stop bullying others for what they cannot change. These people think it's a joke but they don't know that they are actually causing someone trauma and the consequences are pretty bad, even the daily life suffers due to trauma. These people ruin lives. Really hope that bullying will stop one day.

It's funny how much I love this song, I've even done a paper about the addiction of plastic surgery, how it starts, etc. But I can't help but strive to get it done, there are little things I want changed and I personally don't believe it's a confidence issue I just think that I have some physical detractors that need to be fixed

Well..i’m a fan of mel since im 4 in 2016…and yep this is one of the songs i relate to..and yep im insecure abt my tall and weight (bcs im too tall and big and fat/chubby for my age) now im 11 and i still have this insecurity…like i relate to most of her songs…more than 20 songs. :(.. Other traumas like family issues and got bullied and treated differently than my younger sister sometimes and self harm and got h@rr@s3d (all of these when i was 4 but the h@rr@s3d was a year ago (when i was 10) and i get watched this year when i was in with my family, and about self harm..i didnt knew i was self harming bcs it was puching, hitting, pulling hair, eating nails, and fingers upper dead skin, but i started self harming now by using a drawing compass by making white scratches but by accident i got angry wich made me press harder and made some scars(3 lines) but…i started to get used for it…and my parents find abt it and i said to then i got those by accident in the school bcs my desk has a broken spot (its normal bcs our country or school is a little poor/careless) and they seemed suspicious about it but they said only “okay”). :(… (I really want to say more but im so tired right now..)

I have dealt with bullying for years, but the one that stuck with me was people constantly judging my weight and appearance. I've been called fat, ugly, monster, etc. It got to the point that in middle school I came to the conclusion that I needed plastic surgery so that I'll finally look beautiful. However, I then discovered this song/music video. After watching it over and over again, it slowly made me come to see that I am not ugly, I am pretty in my own way. I'm 18 now, about to graduate from high school, and this still gives me reassurance that I do not need to change who I am just so certain people will like me.
