The storyline meaning of dollhouse is crybaby describing her family and the irl meaning could be described how people see celebrities. the song is basically.. well in my experience is like a perfect family on the outside but one knows what happens in the inside and when the girl went inside is like the stuff that happens inside the house gets exposed to a person the person who found out what happens inside doesn’t like or want to listen or be in the situation.. that’s just how i interpret the song and relate to it when Melanie said “everyone thinks that we’re perfect, please don’t let them look through the curtains” 3:31 in my interpretation don’t open up/share your feelings bc someone might decide to leave you

I personally think that its describing how a lot of abuse is covered up with a smile and practiced poses. If you look at the lyrics out of context, you can really start to see the whole picture, and its not a pleasant one... "Open your walls, play with your dolls. We'll be a perfect family. When you walk away is when we really play." This is a matter of when the wife is when mom is away, daddy will play. "Don't let them see what goes down in the kitchen." Kitchen is often what dealers will call their meth labs. I'm sure when you look at this from perspective you'll start to pick out more.
