Still years later I’m still genuinely in awe or disbelief with this song. To have written and recorded THIS song just days before his death is insane. Foreshadowing his death down almost to a tee. He did a lot of death predictions that all come together and paint exactly what happened. I still miss X extremely. RIP Jahseh Onfroy

Loved your breakdown. My take is similar to yours. XXX is trying to improve his mental health by taking a walk out in the sunshine to see a glimmer of hope. However, he’s keeping his jumper on because he’s shading himself, because he’s lost and unhappy and not believing in his lasting abilities. He doesn’t think he deserves the spotlight rays. He doesn’t need a weapon to take him on because he’s already shot himself down through his lyrics in his own opinion. The person walking by him is both the conjuring up of the devil on his shoulder and his fears being in an area of his life he’s unfamiliar with and not sure he can navigate. He has hope because he knows he’s close to pulling through because he’s only thirty minutes away from home and safety. Then he sees his own shadow or a threatening spectre of death ‘tracking’ him that gives him a gut punch, so he isn’t able to use his gut feeling, thus it’s taking him ‘down’. He’s tied to the train tracks of country lines, not running the rails anymore, can’t escape the life he came from, he’s literally derailed.

This is a follow up to "i spoke to the devil in miami, he told me everything would be alright". It is the closing of his purported deal with the devil. He made this very public and whether or not you believe in the occult he certainly did and the bookends that those 2 songs provide to his career are rather chilling if you choose to entertain it through that lens.
