I cannot understand how we listen to such powerful well studied believers and not get better? I want more better in my health, my soul, spirit and mind, that I could promote better decisions. To show up with Holy Spirit authority and power. We can make change if we yield. 🎉❤

I've come back to this video/podcast time and time again since I first heard it. So much so that I've had to just add it to my "Daily" playlist so I can listen to it regularly and remind myself what it truly means to love others and be loved in healthy ways. Guilty of enmeshment and of both enabling and being enabled. Thanks to P31 for this entire series and to Lysa, Joel and Jim for sharing their time, their wisdom and their knowledge.

Thank you!!!!! I have watched this multiple times. Lots of insight & nuggets of wisdom here. This video helps clarify how we often misunderstand or misconstrue what love is, and what it should look like (i.e. abuse or misapplication of the "5 Love Languages" ... or even the way the 'world' tells us we should define love. )

I love these talks discussions! Something struck me in this. While loving others unconditionally is not something we can truly possess “in our humanity,” as Joel put it, I think it is something we are called to do and that GOD can do through a surrendered heart. I can’t love my friends, family, or husband unconditionally in MY nature but God can if I allow Him to love them through me. I believe that’s what God calls us to do in Scripture- to surrender everything to Him and love others (and this is only possible with the new heart God gives us when we are saved and when we allow Him to live through us thereafter. I say allow because we have to choose to surrender our way for His even though He has given us that desire). And whatever God tells us to do, He WILL provide a way to accomplish it. It’s NOT up to us. That being said, sometimes loving the other person does look like setting boundaries and not encouraging their sin. ❤️

Love your neighbor as yourself can be a very helpful standard to use when looking at how people treat you or others. Someone who doesn't love themselves very much will often treat others accordingly.

Excellent thoughts as usual! ❤ A note about the Five Love Languages: the Bare Marriage people have scrutinized the research upon which the book is based and found it to be quite faulty. I've come to trust the opinions of Bare Marriage, and I know many here have as well. Just thought I would mention it.

Except the unconditional acceptance of ALL behavior is somehow tied to that unconditional love we are supposed to give. And that is not what it means, imo. You can love someone but not tolerate toxic and harmful behavior. Often that behavior is just as harmful to the person doing it as it is to others, so holding them accountable is for their good

I definitely think it’s possible to love unconditionally. I don’t think relationship is unconditional. I love my son no matter what. I couldn’t not love him if I tried. Our relationship/closeness however is very conditional. 🤔
@timothytrudgen88813 жыл бұрын
If it's conditional it's not love, because love is not selfish. If you love unconditionally it means you still seek the person's best even when they break your boundaries and you have to put conditions in place. If you never put place conditions in place this is not love at all. Good parents experience unconditional love when their kids go astray. We should not think that only God loves unconditionally.
@regenawilson86072 жыл бұрын
Yea I struggled with that when he said that unconditional love was just for God. I thought we were to attempt to be Christ like in all characteristics?

I believe parents love their children unconditionally even when their children might drive them crazy as their children get older, & Jim said only God can love unconditionally? Im not sure what his statement truly means

What about a married person who thinks love is to convict his wife, and refuses to show love that brings about her highest good.?

Would appreciate your comment on how I interpreted Jesus’ instructions to the rich ruler “to go and sell all that he had and give to the poor” -- the rich rule his wealth, riches took presidents in his life -- first place in his heart -not allowing Jesus to be his first love / occupying his heart-- it’s like someone getting into a new relationship but still holding on to a relationship from 10 yrs ago - it will never work until they let go of the old and start with a fresh mindset. Therefore the rich ruler would’ve never fully committed his life to Jesus -- why did Jesus let him go “LOVE” and free will -- Jesus does force any of us to do anything He’s not a tyrant we have free will -- who so ever will let him come!!! ❤

I will never understand the way a woman is considered " emotionally unstable" when she falls to her knees and weeps in heartbreak over her husband/father of their children walks out the door & into the home of another woman? And then the court considers a mother emotionally unstable when she cries in front of her teen son at the door of their home as she is served custody papers to take away her son whom she raised for 16 years and move him out of state where her ex husband moved 8 years ago- forcing her to have so much less time in his life- the ex husband moved by choice for his own needs- now, he says a son needs his father- the court allowed it. I am certain laws were broken to even allow such a thing to happen when father chose not to be close then years later wants all control & then uses the court to confirm to all- the law said he needed to be raised by his dad for what will be 2 years out of 18 years. Mom had 16 of 18 years- I hold in my pain- i trust that God doesnt want me to fight- i am torn
