PSA- A growth mindset does NOT say that you're not allowed to deal with emotions. If you feel sad, you don't have to REPLACE it with an 'Oh, what can I learn from this?' mindset. Rather, you have to accept that you're feeling sad, move on, deal with it, and THEN ask yourself if you can learn anything from the situation that happened. And a BIG percentage of times, you can't learn anything from it, you can just move on. *TL;DR- Don't make your growth mindset a coping mechanism, deal with your emotions fully.*

Also, "get outside of your comfort zone" is pretty vague and some people interpret it as "don't process or accept your emotions"

Lots of wisdom here. We all process things differently and interpret things differently based on our life experience. Trauma is a huge filter to view the world through, that trauma needs to be dealt with before the world can be seen clearly.

I really wish you would (if you haven't already) do a video about elderly depression. Those of us in our elderly years have lives that are winding down due to degeneration of physical abilities, sometimes diminishing mental capabilities, and lower amounts of emotional energy. Some of us suffer from depression, loneliness, multiple illnesses, and sometimes poverty. When we're old and tired, what can we learn that will help us in the last years of our lives as they continue to narrow and wind down?

This is the perfect time for you to try and apply having a growth mindset. Knowing you are in this situation, what can you do to improve on your current state? What are the things you can do to be happier? How can you be productive emotionally and be happy even at an old age? I know it’s not easy but that’s how growth mindset works. Putting in effort to grow and improve even at an old age. I know a 90 year old who fell in love in painting and it makes him happy everyday knowing that he can still improve everyday 😊

Thanks for posting this comment, Helen! I've borne witness to some deterioration in the health of my parents and grandparents recently, and it makes me wonder about how to support them/other elderly around me in their old age, and has really made me aware of the mental health of our elderly. When I'm in the twilight years of my life, I want to know what I can do to help myself manage the associated life changes, be they philosophical, mental, physiological - or any of it/some combination! I want to know how to help my kids be prepared for my own experience, my parents' experience, and their experience as elderly people (assuming I ever have kids). These are things that were briefly mentioned when I was growing up (in the vein of elder discrimination), but never something discussed deeply (mental health and support of our elderly population), and it's still not something that gets discussed. This is such an important issue, and one that many or most of us will face. For the sake of our loved ones, I'm so glad you bring it up. I hope you're doing well - thank you again for your comment and for mentioning this really important topic.

Thank you so much for referring to artists and painters as not just having "talent". My husband is a painter who dedicates 12 hours per day at times to draw and perfect his fine art. The problem is, most people become incredibly jealous that they cannot succeed in the same regard because they won't put that same amount of time in. It is so difficult for people to understand how much time and discipline that takes.

Recently I put together that I may have gotten some form of ptsd as a toddler after an incident happened and I was injured. In a study I read with a similar case study, a little boy ended up a little developmentally behind than his peers on the emotional front. I guess it dawned on me how little control we have on how our environment and experiences shaped our brains - now it's our present self who has to live with the effects of all the accumulated stuff...and though it is hard every day i am choosing to stay patient with myself and learn the art of self forgiveness, love and care. It's taken me a long time to even get to where I am today.

When I want to get better at something, I pick a certain amount of minutes per day to work on it and I generally work on it around the same time of day (morning or evening) so that it's routine. Even if I don't feel like doing it that day I still do it, as long as its feasible. Four days a week minimum, but six days is preferable, depending on what it is. I keep this routine up for several months at least. Because growth doesn't happen in days or weeks. Problem in general is, when you spend your day at work, your time is limited, because you need to set aside time to relax and sleep as well. With those restraints, you can only pick one or two things to grow in at a time. So you really need to be decisive in the areas you want to grow. You can't do everything, and in fact, as one person you can only do very little. So you need to be decisive in what you want to do, realizing this limitation.

I was told by a counselor A few times and I keep reminding myself of it when I get frustrated if things don’t go as I planned or hoped. He said, “God looks at our efforts, not our results.” Meaning; do the best you can in each moment and understand that failures will happen, but keep trying and don’t give up, as in don’t just totally quit. My best on one day might not be as good as my best on another day. Even though this world expects perfect performances all the time, God only asks for our best efforts to do what brings us closer to Him. After all, Heaven is our true and forever home. Everything earthly is just temporary, except Love. True Love is carried and carries us into eternity.

I think a growth mindset is why sometimes people who struggle with something (like talking to people) can be motivated to do something like a challenge where you talk to as many people as you can. It's a challenge, so it's supposed to be difficult at first; it allows you to be okay with that initial difficulty and gives you an automatic frame to work through things. Without that frame of it being a "challenge," people expect that they should already be able to do "normal" things like talk to people so any difficulty means they failed.

There really are always good options to seek for help, you have to be able to do work though. Even a tiny kitten size step of effort is better than no effort made at all.

I'm challenged by how relationships are complicated by the mindsets of each of the people and their mindsets about the relationship itself. For example, I have the mindset that I am flexible and can change but my partner cannot. So then I take on the mindset that our relationship is doomed. I start to look for things that my partner does that prove he's an xzqx!?% which reinforces that the relationship is doomed. Being able to talk about the assumptions we have about one another, our relationship, and how we are seeing things takes time and practice, AND, like Emma said, you can learn to do this.

I love your videos so much. The fixed mindset is one of the root cause to all the sufferings that had built up in my own life as well. Specially with the apperance part. I am thankful to you for your videos and support. They truely are very amazing. 💕thank you. Love.

'There is no such thing as a problem without a gift to you in it's hands' - don't remember who wrote that (Jonathan Livingstone Seagull??) but it's true. Try to take a step back and look at the situation from someone else's perspective. If this were happening to someone else, what would my advice to them be?

problems, I do my best to adapt or change a path as it is right now though I have been I guess stuck I am at the end or have gone as far as I can go . for the last say year and a half it is hard to see the other path what kind of change I can actually do . as it is I may have to scarp most hings in my life and have a new start but it will take a long time and a fair amount of work and change and at 59yr old living around poverty level but am working and I dio things lijke Chi Gong and meditate daily this helps allot , I spend some time noticing things that are always around that people take for granted like clean air and nature, its very hard when most people are very materialistic and I really cant be around such people I pick up on most of what is wrong then what is right, I know I have anxiety and depression and have had it all my life, not sleeping correctly I average 4-6 hours of broken sleep per night which isnt good but I have to work with it hehe

Do you ever consider doing a mental health anonymous. Like a group therapy via zoom. Something where everyone can pay an amount for a session(basically based on a few hours) and then a link is sent to them for a zoom chat. In these times where fear is all over the place and our minds need to recuperate I think this would be very helpful. It’s like a therapy session for those who can’t afford the actual monthly costs of a therapist. Yet knowing others are out there just like them trying to regain their mental health.

Thats why, I have to take care of my mother and sister .You may think I'm a bot, but I'm not a bot, you can believe it. I try to get my voice heard to people through comments. You know the reason I have a fixed mindset, it's because my parents just avoided me from the mistake or didn't make me learn and grow through it and now ir is coming back to me, I am soon going to be 16 years old and I don't know if I can keep a job but I will certainly try and put effort
