I had a really interesting thing yesterday. While home on the deck last evening, the entire unkindness of ravens came into our trees, perhaps 20, making THE loudest cacophony of chirps, grunts, coos and calls I have ever heard in 16 years! I recorded 3 minutes of what must have been a nearly 30 minute display. Mom and Dad finally came in, gave them all a talking to and finally they calmed down. Truely a cool moment for me!! I would be so excited to be that close to a Raven, I probably would have cried. I can't help thinking that you are truly a raven whisperer. ;-)

Well, its been six days since my 3 baby ravens showed up here and it has been a busy, exciting and entertaining time watching. I missed not having babies last year for the first time in 5 yrs., so very excited their babies survived this hatching. My backyard has turned into a day camp for the parents teaching their young and I am learning everyday from them. Mine talk constantly like yours, lots of low grumbles to each other, of course, lots of loud sqawking for mom "feed me". Mom or dad teach them lesson every day.. yesterday was predator day, when my border collie walked around (totally ignores birds), mom gave the loud cry of caution/danger and flew above the dog about 4 ft., then when the horse came walking thru, the mom flew off her tree, did a close dive along side the mare, landed 2 ft in front and gave a soft cry sound, almost a "its okay", and now they remember this. Yesterday, I was collecting range chicken eggs, and held up one to show mom what I found, this morning I found her with her 3 babies sitting on top of the shed while she showed "them" where the chicken layed the eggs. So many stories I want to share with you because they are so darn fun and amazing to see and watch. I talk to my ravens all the time, and in the mornings can give a "call" and within a few minutes, everyone shows up to watch me feed livestock.

That's great! I don't have a horse to see how they react to them (although I've seen them wild ravens in Bryce with the pack horses there!) so thanks for sharing that! Sounds like you've got a great season ahead. Come back and share anytime your heart desires, and know I will read every word! Thanks again for participating and sharing your birds!

@@theravendiaries Strange day today! No a sound in the sky, no raven sounds anywhere, no one showed at feeding time, total change from all this week..what the heck?? An hr later, when I threw some chicken feed, I heard a little "knock knock" from the tree, hidden was a raven waiting who apparently recognized me & acknowledged but no calls, no noise, silence. It flew down and took feed from top of shed but didn't want me very close so I have to assume it is either one of the babies (too slow to get my glasses and ck for pink mouth), but acted like one, hopping up/down before eating, nervous, ate a little & flew off. No idea what's happening but I am thinking parents took the young on a trial run somewhere else and this one got left behind..maybe?? So, still no ravens and silence in the skies. Hope they come back...:( but glad parents are teaching them the natural traits of taking care of themselves.. news to follow further..we'll see.

@@Sunnyacres55 Funny in the next video I'm releasing, one day the birds are flying all around me for hours, the next I waited for 3 hours and little to nothing. Eventually I can see them a few miles away playing in the canyon! Like fishing, one day the limit, the next you're skunked! That's the beauty and challenge of it!

@@theravendiaries HA, you are so right! They all flew back in yesterday afternoon, loud and noisy, and waiting for me when I got up this morning. They sure mess with me alot! So, back to my observations of behaviors, crazy but intelligent behaviors. Your's sound very similar in actions.

theravendiaries I heard him say yeah around 9:12. 😆these birds are so much smarter than we know!! I’m always chatting with the birds I give them all names and I know people are thinking I’m weird but that’s ok with me. After 2 months of feed a family of 3 crows I got a gift a piece of glass shaped as a crystal. So sweet it was, melted my heart.

Those dudes all definitely know you. I can't get that close to any of the Ravens when I go for my walk. Seagulls are cool also.

I can't seem to do the same with either crows or gulls. There's just too many of them so it's hard to single out anyone, making it difficult to befriend any specific birds!

I have begged for more recent stories, I’m now just catching up 6/2020, but I have my own Raven family thanks to you. I get babysit and scares the crap something try to hurt the new fledgling. Nothing in particular but I get so nervous when they are on the ground and vulnerable when they are learning flight. Mom has a baby that is huge and he has taken longer than I would ever think for a raven to fly. The other sibling was flying 2 days before the “Big Baby” was. I understand that his egg hatched 2 days later.?
