Thank you for another Zino video. *** UPDATE FOLLOWS *** Just today (Nov 28) I received confirmation of shipping from Hubsan's US warehouse in El Monte, CA. My tracking number was sent just this evening. So that means that the first production run has been shipped to customers who preordered their Zinos from the Hubsan official on-line store. There may be a staggered shipping schedule based on the date in which the order was received for the first 1000 units that Hubsan sold as preorders under a discount coupon. According to what I have read on Hubsan's forum, those who used the Indiegogo option have not received shipping confirmation yet. Those were units that Hubsan US had put on reserve. They represent the second 1000 unit production run, from what I understand. This is information that only those who have been waiting on their Zinos will be interested in, but because this channel has become "Zino Central" I wanted to pass that along to your subscribers.

Not only did you do a stellar job addressing the limitations of the app while using an iOS device without a SIM card, but you did your best to show the functions that work under those conditions nonetheless. That is commendable. Also let me say how moved I was to hear you talk about flying a drone safely and not pushing it's limits to the point of failure just for the purpose of getting "clicks" on your videos. Your dedication to hobby flying by promoting best practices such as the AMA guidelines is, in my opinion, what sets your channel apart from other reckless "reviewers" in the KZbin drone community. @@PalmettoMoon From the Hubsan forum and FB group "H501/H502/Zino" I have heard that not all the first 1000 production models have made it to host country warehouses. They are leaving China a few hundred at a time. This may just be their capacity on a daily basis in their shipping department. Two productions runs of 1000 are know to have completed QC but only the first run is in the shipping shed as of last week. If your order number is 8500 or above it may not have left China

iOS app update for camera controls came out, here's an easy video opportunity for you that you can do indoors. Please cover the camera options that were released, what framerates are allowed with different resolutions and what are the image options. Cant check them without a drone :) (iso and exposure options are also there, in the camera options second tab)

I fly my Spark with an old iphone with no SIM card with no problem. You can preload the maps from your wifi at home before you go to fly it stays in the phones memory cash. I’m sure the Hubsan will work the same. I heard besides the camera functions, Hubsan will also fix sports mode in a future update. They advertise 60 km/hr on their web site, right now sports mode is only slightly faster than regular mode. I would like to see a video on a camera comparison between the Zino and the Spark. I know ones 4K and the other is 1080p but the 4K can’t be sized down to 1080p. I haven’t seen anyone do this yet. You would be the first. Great video as always, keep them coming. 👍👍

I fly my Mavic Air 100% of the time with an iPad that has no cell capabilities (i.e., no SIM card). I download the maps while at home over WiFi, then go out to fly, and it works flawlessly. I bet the Zino has the same capability. Batteries drain MUCH faster in cold weather. That was actually a very long flight for 29 degree weather! btw, I just renewed (yesterday) my AMA membership for 2 more years! Wouldn’t fly without it.

The GPS coordinates for the drone and the phone were on the screen. I think the only part that didn't work without the card was downloading a satellite image for the map. For the record, I think you guys are doing a great job and spend too much time defending yourselves. Some people just love to complain. (as I complain! 🤨)

Nate, in Google maps, you can preload or download the maps (offline maps) . The waypoint feature might work if you download the maps first. Just a thought. It might work. Cool if it does. Values rule👍

I don't know about the iPhone, but if you are using Google Maps, you can download maps for your area on Android. I do have an iPad, but it is just the WiFi version, so it doesn't have GPS.

@@ukausb There are two types of iPads, ones that have a Cell phone module, which allows you to have both Internet over your cell providers network & GPS in addition to WiFi and Bluetooth, and others without that module, so they only have WiFi and Bluetooth.

Think that Hubsan did a great job with the Zino and you're right NOT to compare it with the Mavic, as that one is more advanced and (much) more expensive Would be interesting to know if (still without sim card) you can cache maps from say your home wifi-network; some quads/apps will let you do that. So that is pre-loading the map (via wifi) before you head out to your flying spot.

It's a good one! I've got quite a collection now as many of your viewers also do I'm sure. Enough that I'm gonna put the collection on hold for now. A couple of Bugs 2 GPS for gifts just came in and I expect those infrared indoor flyers any day. Gonna use them for toppers on another two gifts. But, for now I'll wait for awhile before adding to the collection. The way things have been going I'm anticipating a new, faster, and better quality crop of quads to be comming next year and will try to be patient before adding any more. Pick and choose, pick and choose that's what I'm gonna dos. Thank yous ;-)

Of course my Zino has not arrived but I have flown the Hubsan H501A using the X-Hubsan app on my Android device Having cell reception at your flight location is not necessary to access the map functions. However you must have a local map of the flight location loaded on device's internal memory using Google Maps "Your Places" and accessing the Wi-Fi link to the device. As long as the device has good GPS reception it should be able to plot the location of the receiver and the craft using the stored map information. I hope that makes sense and you find it useful

So the Hubsan app updated 3 days ago adding camera resolution and other camera options. Also, testing on an iPad, you can see that with no WiFi there is no map data. If you enable WiFi and use the satellite map in the app, this data remains with WiFi off but goes when you quit the app. More interesting seems to be that if you cache data in Google maps for use offline, then the Hubsan satellite map works but... it clearly displays apple map views rather than Google views. Hmm.

I am strictly a hobbyist flyer, but I have a friend (no, really) who isn't a hobbyist but needs / could use a drone in his business. He has a DJI Phantom 3, but it got... damaged. I sent him a few reccos for drones that might help him, and one of those was your first review of the Zino. I still think it would suit him well for what he needs. I'll let you know if he gets one. Everything other than maps should work fine without internet access. GPS is satellite based, compass uses the magnetism of the Earth, altitude hold works off barometric pressure. I have never flown my DJI Mavic Pro with internet access. I started out using an old Motorola Android phone with no service, It worked great but was too small for my old eyes. Then bought an 8 inch Acer Android tablet that worked great but a bit too big to fit the controller in the Mavic's Fly More bag without removing the tablet from the controller So I bought a 7 inch Acer Android tablet that is "dedicated" to drone related apps like DJI Go 4 and Litchi. I have no other apps on the tablet to bog it down. -- You should be able to get the maps if you temporarily give it internet access by connecting it wifi to Abby's iPhone or to your home wifi router. Fire up the app, make the map full screen, and scroll around to where you want it to load. I don't know if the Zino app will cache the maps, but DJI Go 4 does so once I've loaded the map one time it's still there the next time I fly. My best friend and I once went to the local (about 50 miles) AMA field to see his buddies $30k hexacopter with a fancy $5k mirrorless 4k DSLR camera on it. My friend brought is DJI Phantom 4. There were some old guys there (older than me even!), AMA members with their airplanes. I started telling them a "tall tale" about the first time I met my friend and he was "chasing" me with his Phantom yelling "I'm gonna cut your hair your hippy!" Then I realized they believed my store and were starting to get upset with my friend. I had to tell them "I'm kidding" several times before they settled down :>

Interested in seeing how the Android works when available. Looks like this might be a replacement for my Xiro Xplorer if it ever gives out on me. Aerial Videos is what I mainly do and the Xiro works very similar to this. A data connection is not really needed to fly it with a tablet. Can not justify the cost of a Mavic, and it appears that Xiro is not upgrading its products. Love the Xiro and have flown it it pretty strong winds on occasion with no problems. Commend your safe and responsible flying and great videos.

I don't know if you Nate and Abby will see this but turn on USB Debugging and turn off GPU acceleration. The Mavic Air was clunky in the app until doing this on Android.

My Zino is on the way from Cali to Houston...can't wait! Also, in watching your vids that you have done in 4K, I have found that using Microsoft Edge browser I can only get to 1080p60 resolution max but when I switch to Google Chrome, I get full 4K. Also my iPhone 7Plus will only go to 1080p max on Safari. FYI. Russ

Just started flying the JJRC Epik and thus far it's been awesome. I did order 2 extra batteries and one of them doesn't function in the Epik. It will charge and storage charge with my hobby charger and adapter, but will not power up my Epik. (Sorry for the ramble)How does the Epik compare with the Hubsan Zino?

With my Spark I often would be unable to fly without a data connection, because (due to a general aviation airport in my area) I get prompts for "I am authorized to fly in this area", "I take responsibility for this flight" and similar statements that require clicking and submitting, and without a data connection to be able to submit these answers, I don't think there's a way to get past those screens and begin flying.

Hi guys, I was wondering the same, seeing if my Zino Pro would be able to fly hocked to a phone without sim card, indeed it does, however, I notice the aircraft was quite errand while returning home and it almost hit a light pole because the GPS did not work at all and the taking off please was "moved" due to the non accurate GPS readings. Finally, I'm glad to have my drone back safe. I won't do that again.

Thank you Theodor, glad to hear you've gotten yours :-) Our video only looks fuzzy because it's in 720P and is screen recorded, then we stretch it to a full screen in a 1080P video and it is going to look worse. I always use a none sim phone (Galaxy S7 Edge) with no issues. I get maps etc. I cache maps before I go out and fly and its fine. There would be no reason for it not to work. Many times instructions even say to turn im Airplane mode etc... but having Data available will make no difference. I still dont know why 4K is such a big deal. Only the newest TV's and massive computer monitors would ever take full advantage of it. As 90% of viewers are on computer or phone... its hard to tell 720 over 1080. The Zino does not appear to be 4K...? Even the 1080 does not look crisp. I hope to get my Zino in the next week or so and will compare the video against the H501s... All I can say is... I hope their Customer Service department is up for all the calls. For the initial run it will be a 24/7 nightmare.

Yep download map should work and less battery drain on your phone/tablet so in conclusion better without sim. Google maps on a long journey will kill my s8 battery in four hours. This might be a stupid question, but why would the drone care if you have cell reception or not? Why would the drone itself need Internet (through your phone) to fly? GPS does not use Internet. I am a bit confused about why you are testing this. And why remove the SIM? What's wrong with just putting the phone in "flight mode"?

To an experienced pilot, it may sound like a "stupid question" but we have quite a few newer pilots on our channel and we wanted to demonstrate that this can work without cell reception. Many people still ask us if they have to have "Home Wifi" to connect to a wifi FPV drone, so you see, we are just trying to help weed out those types of questions. Hope that helps!

Hubsan added full camera features to the android app. They worked fine before connecting the Zino. Once I connected the Zino, the camera settings prompt me with a message. You must first download the latest aircraft image software before using this feature. How would I download image software? I have no way of knowing what resolution I'm recording in without this feature. Thanks for any help guys!

well da, I been flying my Mavic Pro and Yuneec Breeze on Phones I bought just for those to fly with, NO Cell Service, No Sim card, they work perfect I would never fly any of my drones on a cell phone that has cell service thats just asking for problems, I even use Ipad Air 2 and Ipad Mini 2 with NO cell service to these and my bebop, at least the past 18-24 months, I use those plus a Samsung J7 and Blu Life X2, those 4 devices with NO cell service to fly ALL my drones that need a cell phone device, never ever had problems or flyaways.

Can you load a map with WiFi on that phone, edit and set waypoints, then load that in? I fly my Anafi with a no SIM card MotoX and I’ve got saved flights that always work.

From the start I use my old spare phone that don't have a SIM card to fly zino, there is map, it load maps from free community wifi in the park, Xiomi mi4i

Does it have any option to download off-line maps before you fly with out data connection?

Does it stop and hover if it comes to a no fly zone? I think the Xiaomi FIMI does but I didn't trust the brand as much as Hubsan to preorder before I saw some reviews.

You know, I'd love to test that, but honestly we don't even put ourselves close enough to no fly zones to try it. Sorry! Just not worth the risk in our opinions. Happy Flying Joe!

Oh man. This drone was going to be my next purchase then I watched this video and found out about the Android issue. That is just a deal breaker for me. I am hoping they get the Android issues figured out soon. I guess worst case I could look into an older iPhone since I see now I don't need a working sim card to use one with the Zino. But at that point the price starts creeping beyond the main reason I wanted to get this drone.

Do you know if there are only certain Android phones capable of running/working with the (newest??) Hobsan Zino Pro... say like an LG G6? There is a list for the Mavic Mini, and my LG G6 is on that list, but could not communicate with the DJI RC Mavic Mini setup. SoI got an iphone7 (no SIM Card) and it works with the Mavic Mini. (Not a good 1st impression) Problem is... this iphone is the only piece of Apple equipment I have EVER had and has been a nightmare to use (IMHO). And to get data from it (iphone 7) to airdata.com is... ridiculous, having only a Windows 7 Desktop. Sooo, I am thinking of pitching it all for a Hubsan Zino Pro with an Android Phone that is SURE to work, unless... that too is nothing more than a gamble? Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Nope, always fly line of sight and even though my comments may be a bit crude, my videos contain no swear words, even if I must edit them out like my shop videos for example.
