There Are No Mistakes (Part 1)

When I first started painting, many years ago, I was terrified of making mistakes! I planned everything out to the point where my art was stilted and frozen with no life, energy or flow. But as I’ve become more confident in my work, I take great joy in making all sorts of beautiful mishaps and little adventures…there are no mistakes!

Oh Diane…I absolutely remember being terrified of that pristine white page😅 Terrified of making a mistake or wasting my art supplies or worried about what someone else would think… but I found that by approaching my page with a sense of playfulness and “beginner’s mind” all that fear just went poof!!

Collaging first with the book pages is brilliant for so many reasons. It adds texture/depth, there is no worry of covering it up because there are plenty of book pages, and it looks awesome. Thanks for that tip. Very colorful and playful first page. Love your colors especially the fluorescent pink. Cannot wait to see Part 2. Thank you so much for sharing.

You should read up on Yayoi Kusuma, she is famous for her dots and her work is fascinating. She's a very interesting artist. She was born in 1929 and she's 95 years old.

Yayoi Kusama is a favourite if mine. I love her dotty painted pieces and her use of bright colour everywhere. Her sculptures and installations are out of this world too.
