It's probably not a bad idea that individuals running for high office be given a battery of tests to prove they're fit for the position. I agree with Dr Lee that most people, including those who have expertise in Psychology/Psychiatry, tend to give Trump the benefit of the doubt regarding his alleged ability or inability to think critically or rationally. We either agree with his positions whole-heartedly, or we disagree and show our frustration. Some people, especially the media, opinionate on his obfuscation and speculate on what it all means. We don't assume that he's insane and will push the "RED BUTTON" on a whim. That's an assumption we can't afford to make.

As a Retiring RN who understands the extreme dangers when attempts are made to contain seriously dangerous mentally ill patients I see she is correct. My question is how the GOP actually had Trump as a candidate in the primaries? Can a major party have a disreputable candidate who is almost unable to sue for defamation due to their known character/behavior? This combined with what are at least some serious personality issues preclude this man from public office in lesser roles. I want CNN and MSNBC to invite mental health professionals onto all of their shows and try to explain to us why/how people like Lindsey Graham can go from NOT supporting Trump and believing he is a 'kook' to blaming the media for picking on Trump and taking a rather protective and paternal role with him. And I am talking about more than just the desire to to get political gain from doing so! I am a retired Behavioral Therapy specialist and I'd like to understand why our congress has not created an ammendment regarding the obligation of the vice-president to assume leadership if and when the potus is found to not have the ability to lead due to physical or mental impairment. It would set standards to meet in physical and mental examinations by a bit partisan board qualified in their fields of both public and military health standards, in order to even run for public office which would be determined after handing in the needed signatures in the application process of running for office. Does that sound like a possible or impossible initiative to bring forward? My mind keeps going back to the statement made by the potus who essentially, with no 'and's,gif's or but's ' that he " could go out to any street and shoot someone, and no one would stop him". This was said in the early phase of his seeking the office of potus. If such a amendment had been in place, at the time, he would have been required to be reevaluated immediately afterwards.

I hoped so much that Trump wasn't as sick as I feared, but now it's so abundantly clear. To those who don't yet see the threat I admit I don't treat many narcissists. But many pass through my practice for a session or two destroying families, coworkers, students, classmates, and neighbors in their quest is to do whatever they please no matter what. They rarely stick around long once I ask them to be accountable for their behavior. Unfortunately, one narcissist can produce many victims - who are some of the saddest, most desperate and confused people I've ever worked with when they first come in for help. But they are also some of the most treatable and tend to get MUCH better once they catch on. The cure is straightforward - get away from the narcissist's control as fast as you can and learn everything you can about what made you vulnerable to their abuse. Give up on trying to change them, minimize contact, and take steps to protect yourself from further abuse. Learn to recognize the warning signs and stay out of new commitments until you figure this out. People who are strong enough to do this work and control the fear of being alone in the early stages are able to make huge breakthroughs in their lives. But what power does society have when the narcissist in question (with extreme antisocial tendencies) has the power to destroy the planet? In the narcissistic world view any behavior is acceptable to get you what you want. Their sense of entitlement and lack of regard for others' rights and feelings nearly always produces ample evidence of impairment. In this case we can observe a long history of questionable business practices like his Trump University, selling"get rich quick" schemes and substandard merchandise, and abusing employees. He even repeatedly filed bankrupcy as a business strategy! (Most folks I know who've filed did so only as a last resort and felt a lot of shame about not paying their debts. But our president thinks that's just business and quipped that if you don't like the law change it. So why should we be surprised that he now sees it as his right to use the office for his economic gain even if he has to make a few back room deals with Moscow?) This is a man who publicly bragged about going into dressing rooms at the Miss America Pageant and doing whatever he wanted to the contestents - many of them teenagers. He parades trophy wives and children about to fawn over him and do his bidding (even when it's not in their best interests). Our leader uses atrocious language to berate and threaten anyone who crosses him just like a schoolyard bully - on a public forum and in full view of our kids. Yet he seems to have absolutely no problem promoting himself as a champion of "Christian family values." This behavior certainly demonstrates a sickening contempt for his victims (which now includes the entire American public) and a shocking sense of entitlement. He is grandiose, petty and seems well versed at the tactics of projection, denial, tantruming, crazymaking ("gaslighting"), withholding approval and humilitiating discards of those not willing to be his "yesman" or women. From the recent Washington Post reports on his inner circle, they appear to be suffering the same type of psychological harm I see in so many of my clients in the grip of a narcissist. They are losing the ability to act to protect themselves and the public from his whims. I read that they now avoid mentioning Russia altogether because the topic apparently is too upsetting! How can this response to advising our president lead to a good result? Narcissists are hostile to the regular, rigorous self examination required for ethical living and exercising appropriate authority. They rarely seek treatment unless it provides a temporary tactical advantage (or it is forced upon them.) They are usually manipulative and divert attention from their own behavior to their victims. They are represented as mentally unstable, incompetent, or immoral. Most are compulsive liars. If they can't successfully deceive the therapist they may go into a dangerous and destructive tirade continuing well past the session with their partners or kids (or in this case the public). But sadly, narcissists know how to exploit power and control to make others seem responsible for the misery they in fact create. Unfortunately they also know how to deceive family members, "friends", teachers, attorneys, judges, counselors and child welfare caseworkers. In my small community there are far too many terrible court decisions that rip children away from loving parents to satisfy the revenge and control needs of a narcissistic parent. Those children are thus rendered completely helpless, with huge consequences to themselves and to our society. This is a serious problem.

They actually didn’t make a diagnosis. They were very careful with that. Instead, they spoke of symptoms. As far as ethic go, the duty to warn is imperative, and they acted as such.
