I was taken in by the internet BS so I asked two accounting companies here in Pattaya who deal with taxes, both said nothing to do yet. After more internet BS and some uncertainty on my part I went to the local tax office in Jomtien with a filled out form to get a TIN. Was asked a couple of questions and told to go away, I don't currently qualify to even have a TIN let alone pay anything. My lesson learnt is to no longer listen to the bar stool experts.

What did they ask... Are you a US citizen?... No, OK go away.

@@euromotif Do I have a company or business in Thailand. Answer, No. Do I earn money in Thailand from working. Answer, no. OK go away, nothing for you to do. Luckily there was no queue and no long wait so I didn't waste to much of my time in there. Jomtien office.

Who are the 2 companies contacted in Pattaya, I live here too and would like a consult? How is the Thai gov suppose to enforce this expat tax, are they going to stop us at the airport or freeze our bank accounts by end of March 2025?

I am under 3 years from when I intend to retire. I find your videos informative. I acknowledge approx 3 years is a long time away, but - and as you have said - there is currently uncertainty in what MAY happen/be required, and this uncertainty is being amplified by people taking advantage of the situation to get a financial gain or more 'hits' for a youtube channel. For me - and I may be naive - the issue is global RE if Thailand follows OECD pressue or not. I have a few years until I decide what to do, but I hope Thailand pushes back on the OECD/WEF agenda. I hope before I retire it is resolved and it is beneficial to expats RE no double tax hit on retirement income. If not then for me its likely Cambodia, Laos or South America, which is a shame as my heart is set on Thailand.

I appreciate you Ben. Thank you for your current and consistent updates. You are helping to calm the expat vibe...it's the vibe in Thailand that brought me and keeps me here. That and my lovely wife of course. Keep up the good work. 👍

If it is any conciliation they do plan do devalue the Baht (No idea how they plan to do that) but the gov wrote about it. to attract Foreign investment apparently. Same article that talks about VAT mentions this and other strategies.

You didn't disprove anything. They can still put it into policy, they literally said that they were going to do it. So just because they haven't done it and it's in December doesn't mean that they're not going to do it next year which is actually when it's stated to happen. Why would anybody make a serious Financial investment in a country that's going to take a huge cut of that for zero benefit. Not only does the law need to not occur but it needs to be explicitly stated that it will not occur in order for people to have any confidence in the market.

Consult a Thai accountant. There are many example where you should not get a Tin or declare. Eg If you are not in Thailand 180 days in the calendar year, and have no domestic sources of income, you are not required to declare funds you remit to Thailand, and do not qualify for a TIN. If you import capital or savings, and have no domestic sourced income, you are not required to declare or qualify for a TIN.
@ArriyaPBrownАй бұрын
No new law needed just a fresh interpretation of existing law which allows them to collect taxes which they could always have collected. Google Swiss embassy and Thailand Revenue department and hear what they said a year ago.

@@IntegrityLegalThailand immigration already knows who is a plus 180 day resident, if the government has the resources and decides to go after those not filing it's a no brainer they already have our information. The only question is what tax law/details will be enforced, how it will be enforced and who the government will go after, will they freeze bank accounts, will they prevent us from getting on a flight out of the country? All we want to know is what are the facts for the retired expat community, it's not about fear it's about reality = who and how will we expats will be affected.
