"Winter is coming" is definitely a boast, and a threat. When you are known as the Kings of Winter, "winter is coming" is what you want people to remember.

Catelyn was obviously insecure about Jon, by the way. She feared Jon's heritage, she didn't know who was his mother, Ned's secrecy was indicating a very important woman, else he'd not be this protective about Jon. She didn't care about Eddard sleeping with others, she feared that Jon being a highborn lady's son, Ashara Dayne, who's one of the oldest and noblest families of Westeros. If that was the case, Jon being in Winterfell, raised as Eddard's son, being well apparent towards others, could make him a threat to her own children. This is a mindset you would not easily find on modern western societies that easily. Because lifestyles are way individual and people don't have this strong connections with their children. They see them as free individuals, not some project to keep their torch alive. She lives and identifies herself through her children, her instincts about their wellbeing and obsessive hate on everything that could mean them ill will is her motivation to hate Jon.

YES, THIS. You can't expect these characters to be thinking like modern people - they don't and that is why they are believable. Catelyn wants to protect her children's rights. Jon might be legitimized someday - his mystery mother revealed -carving out a chunk of her kid's inheritance.

In Catelyn 1,the comparison of Riverrun's godswood compared to WFs,it is like night and day, life and death. Birds sing in Riverrun's...not a peep of life in WF godswood. Wes has smell of DECAY, and Riverrun's has flowers....just a deep comparison!

Lions as the sigil of house lannister makes perfect sense, because in an ecological sense lions get most of their food through intimidation, not their hunting prowess. They are opportunists, just like the lannisters are. There's also a bit of critique about patriarchal structure there, look at Tywin and how he treats his kids, ultimately alienating all of them because of his own egotistical nature and the assertion that none of them live up to his expectations, probably because of the intense pressure put on him by his own father, who he clearly idolizes

The show didn't even answer the twists that they set up. I mean they literally had littlefinger being a father figure to robin (unlike the books) and robin being a useless swordsman in a scene where littlefinger points out that "he will never be a great swordsman, he has the 'gift' of a powerful name". Yet they never went through on the reveal.

Obv my opinion will be biased, but dam Catelyn chapters are amaizing, not because of her character but I mean for the sheer information we get of her, a look at the North, King's Landing (first time), Tne Vale, Riverlands and Robb's campaing, Storm's End and hell even we get introduced to the Reach with her and we get tales we hear of Harrenhal detail history for the first time from her PoV to. Idk quality wise her chapters great and filled with insight of the world, I hope we all can agree that be it fans and haters of her character, obv for me her chapters will always be top tier for me,

I think Winter is Coming are Stark words, because of that possible pact with the White Walkers you've mentioned in one of your earlier videos. The Long Night was predestined, Bran the Builder knew it, theirs was the guard duty of the realm. The crypts, Winterfell itself, all are linked to it. I think the Targaryen banner is about Azor Ahai as well. The dragon has three heads, says Rhaegar. And we see that Targaryens were already interested in Jade Compendium and had an understanding that their family, their heritage will be the ones who will produce the Prince That Was Promised, long before all this happened. Fire and Blood, this is a statement of might, aye. But it also can mean that fire is what they have against the cold and blood is what they have to mark them. It can even mean the blood magic and fire rituals that they need to have to hatch dragons.

So I was just thinking that in the prologue, the 3 men of the Night's watch walk into a forest, and come face to face with supernatural death. In this chapter, Ned is cleansing himself and his sword next to this creepy tree with a face on it. I think George is trying to tell us something about the creepy nature of trees. In the show, Cat really doesn’t want Ned to go to the south. In the books, she pleads with him to because of her ambition for their family. It’s the same ambition Sansa has and it’s ridiculously crucial details for the show to leave out about Cat’s character.

Your analysis on Catelyn and Ned's marriage is amazing. Especially as it relates to how she feels about Jon. It made me think of Sansa taking Joffrey's side against Arya. Catelyn took Ned's side against Jon. Maybe in order to let go of her hurt and love Ned, she had to transfer those feelings to Jon. She felt wronged and had to hate *someone*. Better the bastard than her lord husband. Keep up the great work!

Ned and Catelyn - their love grew - and it is a practical one based on long years together. Cersei - and Sansa and several more characters, even some men, are disappointed romantics, but Cat and Ned always knew there would be an arranged marriage and they'd make the best of it - Ned is the backup Stark husband for Catelyn, remember. He's pretty humble as Westerosi highborn men go.

I’m confused, the people from the North are praying to the Weirwood tree gods of the children, or they are praying just in front of trees to the gods of the first men? Because in some chapters is written that after the pact, the first men have adopted the religion of the children and in other chapters is written that after the pact they started to pray in front of the trees

Stefan Alexandru, im pretty sure the pact had them worshiping the same gods of the first men, so i imagine they both worship the same gods of the Weirwood. Considering the souls of the children were connected to the weirwood net, it would make sense that the children would attempt to preserve themselves in another way since the first men practiced genocide against them and almost exterminated them and the giants. It essentially allows them to live in the weirwood till the Andals come with the Faith of the Seven and destroy almost all the weirwoods south of the neck.

Cat Stark wasn’t evil. She was fucked up about some things, which is human. It does say in the books that the only time she was ever afraid of Ned was when she asked him about Jon’s mother. That would have made Jon’s mother seem really fucking important. I do hate the way she treated Jon. For a long time I couldn’t really like her because of it. I have thought lately that Ned could dealt with it better tho. He could have let her know that Jon’s mother was no threat to Cat without breaking his promise. I know they hadn’t been together long when she asked. He could have said something later on when he knew her better. I’m about to start rereading the books, so I’ll find out soon if I really have softened towards her or not.

One thing to keep in mind about a Westerosi marriage dynamic is that traditionally the mans word is law, to both his kids and his wife, Catelyn knows this and I do believe Ned does to, if Ned decides to bring his bastard son home and raise him among his true born children, she can’t say no to it, if Ned refuses to tell her who the boys mother is and commands she stops asking, she has to obey because he’s not just her husband, but the Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North as well, he’s the one with all the power in this place, not her, they only power she has it what he allows her to have, thus forcing her to tow the line in her behaviour when he’s around, Catelyn like Cersei, was her fathers first child so she does have a I’m the decision maker in this family mentality in mind, whether she is aware of it or not.

I noticed this about Cat as well. Shes so sensitive and intuitive. She has her shortcomings and flaws and they enrage me but if she had been born in the North and raised like her wolf children were she may have made for a great greenseer or woodswitch. The fact she is brought back and lives her worst nightmare everyday as and undead, childless, lonely, deformed, and barren monster? Its an injustice. Lady Catelyn is in hell. I think it would be poetic if in an act of forgiveness Jon was the one to lay her to rest. If the one child she could never love could see this woman, now the spitting image on the negativity she imposed on him and forgive her sins, it might be what she needs to bring her peace and wrap up her character arc nicely on that Family, Duty, Honor theme. She doesn't deserve to exist like this love her or hate her and as METAL as it is.

I adore the both of you! Here’s my issue, I’m having a problem theorizing what’s going to happen now that the show has ended. I’m afraid the show ending is the real ending and that the Others are just an “annoyance.” This really bothers me because I loved trying to figure out why the Others were so scary, or, in other words, why the north is so freaking scared of them. I hate that I feel this way and that the stupid show ruined my love for finding the truth in this story. Am I the only person who feels this way? D&D suck

The Old Gods being nature gods, teach self reliance and being prepared with food, ability to fight, and selflessness and in the terrible winter an old man will leave so others may survive knowing they're going to their death. Life and death are matter of fact. Not to be feared. The Faith of the 7 is nothing like that. Every aspect is named for a position in life or a job. It talks of relying on others and community. It doesn't teach you to be prepared and know how to take care of yourself. Ultimately that leaves people unable to do what is necessary when winter does come. When life gets hard they look for hand outs and don't fish or hunt. Hunting is in the old English way of a party with drinking and joking around as they move through the forest, that eventually might find something to kill not because they need to but because they enjoy it. It's just another game for the rich. Where the poor it maybe a matter of life or death are punished if they're caught hunting on the Kings or lords land when everything belongs to the king and the lords. It's not a faith of love really. Not when so much cruelty is born of it. That's also something about out organized religions that bothers me. You can't have it both ways. The church wants everything even if you starve you're told that's it's good because you gave to God or more honestly, lined the churches pockets. Neither religion is perfect. The whole Weirwood net shows how the Old gods keep you, literally, forever. You're knowledge being the whole goal because that's what the God in the trees lives for. How it survives. Without the trees that it lives in it would actually die. That's the purpose of the pact. I'm stopping there because I'm sticking to just the books and not what I surmised from the tv show.

@@robswitzer8334 I think of it like a disembodied conciousness. Like, at one point it may have been a living creature. Maybe the 1st to die in front of a Weirwood, and his conciousness went into the trees and there he learned how to communicate with the Greenseers and the Children began worshipping this inexplicable voice they could hear in their heads and follow it making it stronger and then it started incorporating other conciousness's inti it's own gaining more and more knowledge as it took the sacrifices made to the Weirwood. Through this he reigned supreme over all, until the 1st Men came. Then there was a war. In the end the 1st Men agreed to worship at the Weirwood and provide sacrifice as the pact was made on the Isle of Faces. I have this feeling that the people left there to watch became part of the Weirwood, literally, as it took their minds and ate from their bodies. Howland never told anyone what he saw there. That would be disturbing enough not to want to talk about. It's just a theory. A line of thought and I can come up with some pretty weird ideas. Lol!!!

Order of the Green Hand has just the most absurd theories - that somehow Alleras is not Sarella, that Prince Doran does not have gout, and that Sansa and Catelyn are evil.

I don't hate Catelyn, but she isn't in my top 5 of characters either. To me she is a woman who tries to protect her family and sometimes does stupid things while trying to do so. It makes her character realistic. In a way, she is a less vein and cruel version of Cersei. Cersei also tries to do everything to help and protect her children, but she is kind of psycho which makes her less likeable than Catelyn.

Okay idk if anyone has thought/said this before (probably) but Melisandre looks like a weirwood tree. She talks about how every religion that’s not hers is evil but she looks like she definitely has some northern/weirwood magic blood in her. She’s pale as hell and has red eyes and hair, kinda like how a weirwood has red leaves and red sap that pours out of the carved eyes. Ik Mel isn’t the focus of this video but i just wanted to get it out there.
