I commend you for identifying that you're stuck in a rut. A lot of people never realize this. You got to do you and the people who are meant to be around, will stick around. I personally like the slower videos. I am not a crafty person so I need things dumb down and explained to me at a slower pace. 😁In the end, you have to be true to yourself as an artist, or you lose who you are. And that's not a very good compromise.

It's kind of poetic that the frog is the first one that you picked to do. In productivity slang, the frog is that one thing you have on your to-do list that you have absolutely no motivation to do and that you're most likely to procrastinate on. 'If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first.' - Mark Twain Great video!

I have a one year old daughter and rarely find the time to sit down and create stuff anymore but just listening to someone go through the thought processes, tackling challenges and trying new things are enough to keep me sane. I'm a full-time artist who has nothing to do with KZbin or video making (really) and definitely feel you on the blurred lines between hobby/passion/job/self-worth. When I'm being crushed by doubts, I always look to creators who excite and inspire me and recognise that the very reason they're exciting and inspiring is because they're excited and inspired by the stuff they're working on! I'd much rather watch videos of someone learning and growing by following their own lead rather than someone riding the algorithm wave or feeling beholden to deliver new tips, finished projects or narrative arcs every time. Your obvious passion, natural and honest delivery (and lovely camera framing) are the main reasons I'm subscribed, and what actually lights a fire under me to keep making things and exploring. So it's really cool to see you recognise that in yourself, and admirable to take a step to foster that magic rather than fall into the belly of the beast. Making art is a powerful and uniquely human endeavour, and our right to undertake it to the fullest extent of its enjoyment should be protected at all costs, no matter how many followers you might have. Stoked to see what you do next!

Honestly my favorite thing about what you do here is the "just watching you hobby moments". There are SO many channels that focus heavily on content curated for the algorithm/viewership which I get BUT as someone who just got into the hobby this past year there is nothing I crave more than just "sharing" someone else's hobby experience while I engage in my own. Especially with the pandemic and not having friends who are also into the hobby it's nice to just listen/watch along while you hobby and I hobby at home haha. Appreciate you Trent, take care.

I dont know if i speak for everyone, but some of the stuff i most enjoy about your channel particularly is seeing your thought process and your passion, and the way u interact with the hobby, and all the strange stuff that results from that. I dont know if that makes any sense but what im getting at is that as long as ur doing the stuff u find interesting, whether it be a huge project or a tiny one or even just seeing random stuff like your organization system or the way u use the hobby to socialize, it will always be entertaining and inspire me. I think the title of this video is fitting because ive always felt like your channel was just a lucky way for me to see how you interact with the hobby, rather than you making stuff for our gratification. you do you, and ill always be grateful whenever i get to go along for the ride. Have a good week!

I always feel for content creators who turn something they love to do away from 'work' into their 'actual work'. I respect the hustle, drive, and all that jazz, but you definitely made a strong point: for many, creating for the sake of creating isn't a hobby anymore, it's just a part of their KZbin work. I respect you immensely for always pursuing the art side of all this. It doesn't feel like you push out a video for the sake of making the GoogleTube happy. And I always appreciate this kind of slice-of-life content, because it feels more honest.

to add to the words of support: 1. your pile of shame is nothing compared to Midwinter Minis :p. You can fit it all on 1 shelf, & your projects are fairly involved. That isn't a backlog to stress over 2. On arcane ugly: I've been trying to do my own TT-RPG project since late last year... and your amount of progress shames me. One thing a day is an amazing amount of progress. Especially since you're doing the whole thing, rules, art, and other text. A few ideas that may help with your crafts,... to get better 50/50 mix when mixing your silicon, use a small scale to measure the weight. and your wire cutter, maybe try a slightly thicker gauge wire that you can bend, make the wire longer than what you currently use and then you can shape it in odd ways to make more fluid formed cuts almost like a router would with wood. maybe look up wire that is used with vape products, they come in all sorts of gauge sizes and are obviously meant to use with ohm resistance to create heat. Other than those ideas to possibly improve I think your craft ideas are frikken amazing, keep up the great works.

One item a day is OVER THREE HUNDRED in a year! Which is heaps!! Also, people who might be inspired by your art, and might give it a go themselves, if you produce on a hectic schedule and always produce stunning fully-done things... that can be intimidating, and might even mean when someone tries it themselves, and it takes a month to do one thing, they might give in. So work on schedule for you - the passion for the art is really what we're (or at least I am) are here for -- and it's great however! :)

I think one of my most favorite parts of your channel is how genuine you are no matter WHAT you are doing. So just do things that make you happy. I also had an epiphany watching this. Like you, I also have a lot of projects that are still not finished, or maybe not even started. But it's alright to not immediately jump in and complete something right away. So long as I'm making, I'll be happy with that. Guilting myself every day is just too exhausting. I would say the biggest reason I watch videos of people making art is to watch them "make," if that makes sense. I like the process of things. It's how I've learned to make my own things. The creative process is a lot of fun to me, also a fantastic motivator. What gets me in the mood to work on my minis, is pulling up a video of someone also painting minis. The whole time I watched this video, I was working on something of my own. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Something I’ve always loved about your channel is how “real” it feels, you’re making dope shit cause you like it. Arcane Ugly didn’t become a thing because you thought it would be profitable, but because you thought it was neat. There is a tension, however, between doing what you want and being able to buy food, and if your “compromise” keeps bringing the audience closer to the reality and to your process like this vlog did, there’s some cool fucking shit coming from your channel in the near future. Very excited, can’t wait for the next one!

Loved this video. It’s was so engaging and honest. As a fairly new KZbin content creator it’s reassuring to see that it’s not only me that has those sorts of emotions, and completely agree that your hobby becomes dictated by what you think might get views, or make a good thumbnail. It’s such a fine balance between doing what you want to do and what you think other people want you to do. I’m looking forward to Vlog 002. Keep up the great work, man.

I don't really care what comes out at the end. The beauty of your videos is the process. Puts me closer to doing what I don't have time to do. If I just wanted cool results I would go to Instagram. Although it's always satisfying watching you turn a pile of random objects into a piece of art. I think what I find so satisfying about your videos, what makes them stand out from the rest of creators is that you not only show the crafting process but also the process of forming something in your imagination and forming it into the real world. There's a relaxing beauty in watching you slowly develop a idea slowly with your hands.
@TabletopRPGMusic3 жыл бұрын
The joy of watching your videos is your enthusiasm and creativity, not promises you’ve made to the audience about what you are going to work on. You do you, work on what makes you happy - even if that means not continuing with a project which you’ve ‘promised’ the audience you will work on. As someone who makes “content” too, I’m always floored by how much you get done - I think you can afford to slow things down a bit if you want to, perhaps taking what would be one video and splitting it into two or three slower ones to give you a bit of breathing room before the next new thing. Whatever works for you. Also I just realised your profile picture isn’t a temporary tattoo and is actually just bits of terrain stuck to your face. How have I only just noticed this? 😂

I enjoyed the more casual style and narration to this vid. That monologue shot looked real nice, and then I realised, we never get monologues from you. One of the things I've always liked about your channel is that you just do your own thing, and bring us along for the ride. I've never felt you pander to the algorithms, but I think it's inevitable that it starts having an impact. It's good that you've recognised this issue early though. I don't think anyone will mind a change in pace or content. I think if you're happy in your hobby, it'll shine through into your content. We ain't going nowhere!

I wish I'd found this earlier. It's genuinely inspiring to watch/listen to. With so many videos showing how to get the *perfect* result, it's easy to get demoralized when my own stuff either doesn't end up exactly how I want it or, worse, the time spent doesn't result in any major progress. So seeing your at-times meandering creative process was really nice. It helped remind me that, yeah, this is normal; and that's okay.

One of the more clever things I've seen done with casting things is putting colored inks into each half of a mix. For example putting blue into the resin and yellow into the hardener and when its fully mixed it turns green kinda thing. Doing this you'll know when to you've got it mixed correctly, probably. Keep your stick on the ice. Hope ya find a happy medium between hobbying and KZbin.

This was so wonderful to watch! While I do love your final creations, my favourite thing about your channel is simply being able to sit down and listen to you talk about your process. So yeah, I’m very excited for more vlogs to come!

I love these videos, They're excellent and make me feel less lonely or stressed while I'm working away at my own projects and doubting my own work. I think the way you present things is definitely somehow soothing and inspirational. I also love your taste in backing music. Keep up the good work and you do you.

I absolutely loved the pace & vibe of this video. I've really enjoyed the "Studio Vlog" format on youtube with other creators, and it's even better when it's applied to your work!

From day one when I first discovered your channel I loved your videos and I admire you. You have been a major inspiration for me and my hobby by just being yourself. After watching a video of yours I always start to build or paint some stuff. Hopefully you can ease the pressure you feel. We all belive in you.

Really enjoyed this slower and longer video style! Focus on yourself and your wellbeing first and for most! When your hobby becomes a job and you feel pressured into doing it, it can suck a lot of the enjoyment out of it, which isn't fun.

Keeping it real is the way to go...love your work, but it isn't worth making stuff if it is to please others...the world you are building is going to be epic...and that takes time...love watching it unfold one bit of lore or piece at a time 😀

I cant tell you anything about video production/editing but i can tell you about project management. Cleaning is always the nuclear option, a great reset so glad to see you do some. Personally I live in a stupid big house for a single guy to live in (its only a 3b-2b house with a big basement and detracted garage for the loud shyt) so i have more then one workspace... that said that wasn’t always the case... the thing that still helps is to put things in a box a closed box, or a place covered with title card (that just expresses the idea of what’s inside, not too direct). Am super bipolar so even if i don’t work on any project I’ll see the different boxes/spaces and be like ‘what the hell did i mean by that?’ Then BAM! Memory just sparked and the time away from that project is ‘freshened’. It’s a double edged swords though... YOUR VIDEOS are great because of the rough edges and the fact that you can still pull off some pretty great stuff, and always entertaining because we can all relate to when things don’t work out and then when they do work out. Ugh if this helps i hope so. MENTAL HEALTH is right up there with WATER it takes time to be clear and filtered...

Don't worry Miscast I've been going through a similar problem as well and making new projects for miniatures and keep postponing old projects and forget about it. I need to have process finish all project and make organize time for myself and have a schedule and it does make me get anxiety not finish project and feeling expectation to finish my projects inside my mind. Also the hobby and liking the things to finish project feels rewarding and taking time with it. :)
