The actual best way to trail fix a radiator leak is Tea spoon of pepper. Tobacco will soften and fail. Pepper never dissolves and will plug all holes. Old timer taught me that trick.

I’ve used snoose, also known as snuff which is powdered tobacco to fix a damaged radiator. I was about a hundred miles from nowhere in Alaska and a truck going the opposite direction kicked up a rock and made it through the grill. Needle nose pliers, that can of snoose (luckily there was water in a stream nearby) and I was on my way. Might add, it held for months! Great tip! Great recovery guys!

There is a product called Young's Radiator Super Seal which has been around in Australia since 1933. The combination of 100°f + temperatures & the old school metal tank & copper radiators, made this stuff an absolute toolbox item. It works just as good on the aluminium / plastic tank radiators as well. Many outback travellers have said they would have been stranded in extremely isolated places where your life expectancy without adequate drinking water is 48 hrs.
