You know what I like best about Phase 1? Every movie is different. They all look different, they all feel different and the main characters all sound different. But as the 'phases' went on the movies all started to become very samey. Even the characters who are all supposedly different people with different backgrounds and motivations all get essentially the same voice. They're all quippy and sarcastic gold-hearted people. Basically everyone became Tony Stark to some degree. It's kind of awful.

Yes, every movie mostly is different. Yes, the MCU phase 1 movies all look fairly different. The characters all kind of feel different from Iron Man, but the main characters of Captain America and Thor sound a bit the same in that they both sound and come across as boring. Tony Stark/Iron Man was clearly the most complicated, complex, funny, and interesting character. It seems this resulted in MCU establishing characters with traits that draw inspiration and/or similarities to the most popular character. As you stated, the characters all essentially have the same voice -- "They're all quippy and sarcastic gold-hearted people." If we're being honest, the only good movies from MCU's phase 1 are Iron Man and The Avengers. They propped up and bookended the phase, while the other four movies don't prove themselves to be very good.

@@ehecatl6343 Can't agree more, even though Phase 1 feels different in each movie, it's phase 2 and 3 that actually build Capt and Thor character's arc to its full potential. Unlike Iron Man, their first appearance in the MCU is kinda okay, not the best. Thor has its best in Ragnarok, Capt got his best in Civil War, Iron Man got his best in every single one of em. EVEN THOUGH the Iron Man II and III isn't as good as the first one, i love how Tony got more and more paranoid yet tried to hide it and cool it down but he can't, we always see different Tony overtime, from extremely selfish, clumsy, paranoid, to someone that literally do anything to safe the day like he always wanted to since Iron Man. That's what i called a great character arc.

They kept it up for a long time too when it came to new characters first solo movies. Dr. Strange comes to mind. But yeah. I think what they were trying to do with the last phase is use indy directors to try to get a different feel for the movies with some mixed results.

Iron Man still ranks as one of the best Superhero origin movies ever made. Great story, great cast, kept a lot of elements from the comic book origin. When I saw the Mark I suit in the previews I knew it was going to be awesome.

Most of Iron Man being improvised is a very underappreciated point that I feel partially explains the reason the humor in so many recent Marvel movies feels forced or unnatural. There are other Marvel movies that allowed actors some degree of freedom to define their characters and humor (I know Thor Ragnarok was also largely improv), but most of them try to recapture Iron Man's "naturally quippy" energy in an extremely stilted, scripted way. Every plot point and character beat feels formulated by a committee to endlessly push the franchise forward forever, and there's little room to just film the actors realistically bouncing off of each other like Jon Favreau did

Yes, I took off every Friday of opening weekend to see MCU movies. For The Avengers, the audience excitement was electrifying. We cheered together, gasped together....it was such an amazing experience. Only toppled by End Game.

I was a teenager during phase 1, and was already a comic nerd. I cannot explain the emotions I felt as these movies came out and Avengers inched closer and closer. The first Avengers movie is still the most magical theater experience I’ve ever had, because until I saw it, it seemed like an impossible feat.

Prime, you probably don't know this, but Hulk being a failed attempt at creating a super soldier is from the long dead Ultimates line in Marvel Comics. The Ultimates lines was an attempt in 2001 to give a separate and modern brand of comics for then young readers to follow. There was Ultimate Hulk, X-Men, Avengers, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and so on. And yeah they changed some origin stories here and there like Hulk's for example. Also side note the Ultimates line is how we got black Nick Fury. The character was made in Samuel L. Jackson's likeness with his permission.

It's also how we got Miles Morales after Ultimate Peter died. While he's yet to make his MCU debut, his uncle Aaron Davis has appeared, played by Donald Glover and even refers to Miles by name in a deleted scene.

The thing that still blows my mind after all these years, is that they started with Iron Man, who, in the comics, has never been one of their top-sellers. You're talking about gambles a lot, but that was, by far, their biggest one. Probably incited by the fact that their AAA-listers (mainly Spider-Man and the X-Men) were in the hands of other studios. Phase 1 just fills me with childlike joy. Iron Man was the first PG-13 movie I saw back when I was 8. My parents told me I could watch it as long as a wouldn’t repeat the “naughty words” at school. I remember thinking that it was the coolest shit ever. I remember sitting in theaters for the Avengers in the 5th grade and I loved ever second of it. I remember I would watch that movie on repeat when it finally came out on DVD. It also made me want to try Shawarma which I still need to try.

54:34 there's a scene here in boot camp where Steve jumps on a grenade, thinking it's live, to save everyone else is one of the more memorable moments in all the Marvel films, I think it was based on a true event 59:42 hmm, Cap having to sacrifice himself to crash the bombs into the ocean is a mirror of the grenade scene above 1:09:17 that teamup shot influenced the entire rest of the movie, they changed the aspect ratio of the film to increase the verticality of the buildings for that shot, which they then built the rest of the movie around that parameter

i maintain that the ex-wife missile was fired at too close a range for it to arm properly. it was not a mistake of design but a mistake of use. i mean, if the missile worked as advertised, then the resulting explosion wouldve been absolutely massive, so it stands to reason that it had an inbuilt safety system that made sure it wouldnt trigger until it was at a safe distance from the user, which rhodey was absolutely not at that distance. i mean really, ivan should have known all the specs of everything in the war machine armor, which was why he could be so nonchalant about the missile, otherwise even he had to put his guard up even a little bit, because he know's he's within the safe zone, whereas rhodey just thought he was firing a rocket that goes big boom. #JusticeforHammerTech

I know the incredible hulk is often looked down upon and criticized as the black sheep of the mcu, but in my opinion it's super underrated. It has one of my all time favorite CGI fights between hulk and abomination, as well as abomination being really cool looking, not entirely, there's some dumb shit about the abomination design, and it was nearly perfected in Shang Chi when he fights Wong. That design is much better. I always thought abomination was a fun villain, he was always one of the villains I wanted to see throw down with the Avengers, possibly even with a masters of evil type villain team. Abomination would be the big muscle of course, but other picks of mine would've included Michael b Jordan as golden jaguar, maybe even led by baron zemo, maybe even vulture, or venom, or Norman Osborn green goblin, or hell maybe even mysterious. But those are just examples of cool villains that would work well with other villains. Venom less so than goblin and especially the vulture, but maybe even crossbones except of course crossbones is dead as fuck, but also maybe Wilson Fisk and the hand together help fund the masters to kill the avengers and other super heroes, it could be so dope. There's tons of villains that could fit onto the team. Maybe even U.S. Agent would be a great addition, perhaps yellow jacket if he wasn't dead as fuck too, but if we really wanted he too could be resurrected, just say he did wat Janet did and survived in the quantum realm if we really really wanted yellow jacket back as a member of the masters. But not necessarily essential for the team. There's many others who could slot right in perfectly, like the mandarin if he wasn't Trevor or Wenwu, if it was the mandarin from Iron man 3 before that lame ass stupid Trevor Slattery twist, that same mandarin that was killing politicians and grabbing the president by the balls, attack Tony at his own home etc. He was ruthless and merciless, scary as hell, and was shaping up to be the all time best villain in the entire MCU as of iron man 3. Of course we hadn't yet gotten Zemo, Thanos, The Scarlet Witch, The Winter Soldier, of course Kilmonger, etc. But if I could make a masters of evil lineup of dead and living villains, I'd consider including maybe even Obadiah Stane and or Whiplash, and or Extremis not-the-Mandarin Guy Pierce, Wen-"not-the-mandarin"-wu (lol.) Maybe even kaisillius? Kaecileus? Kie-sillyness? Kai-silliest? The villain from the first Doctor Strange (2016) played by Madds Mickelson, (idk how to spell the characters goofy name tho lol) and all the names I said up there. Could be refined and there's tons more villains I didn't touch on, like ghost, or taskmaster especially interests me, any of the sinister five from no way home, etc. Etc.

As a kid who grew up watching these movies since the first Iron Man movie when I was 4 I've gotta say I was really fortunate to watch all of these movies. Ever since 2008, these movies are essentially a part of my life in a way especially Iron Man seeing as he was the person I wanted to grow up to be. The Hulk, Thor, and Cap also did their part and then came in my opinion the best film in 2012 which I saw opening night when I was 7 and my god would I do anything to relive that day. All and all the 2010's was the golden age of the MCU and hopefully in the next few Avengers films I'll be able to see similar moments that I had with the original 6.

Great video man! It’s been such a trip and a blast watching the MCU come to fruition and then evolve to the powerhouse that it is today. As a comic fan, I STILL get giddy in theaters watching these movies today as a 38 year old! Watched Spider Man No Way Home a couple weekends ago and Marvel hit it out of the park again! The only MCU film so far that didn’t do much for me was The Eternals, but nobody can deny that Marvel Studios’ track record is so damn good, even if not every single entry is a slam dunk. Pretty cool now that we can continue to see these characters and smaller more intimate stories on the Disney+ shows as well. The past 13 years have been awesome, looking forward to even more!

Man, even after all these years I still look back fondly on every one of the movies in Phase 1. The first Avengers movie rocketed its way to the top of my list of favorite movies at the time of its release and stayed there for years. I was relatively young at the time when the films were releasing, so I didn't know much about what was going on behind the scenes in terms of recasting and directorial disputes, so I went into every one of these films with no idea what to expect, and each one blew me away. I'm glad to see that so many other people feel the same.

The incredible hulk game was fun if not really repetitive, but does anyone remember the hulk game called "Hulk: Ultimate Destruction" ? It's a seriously amazing game full of ridiculous and impressive amounts of destruction physics. If I recall correctly it was open world or semi open world, and you could impressively destroy every single if not almost or a lot of big ass buildings, near sky scraper levels of big ass. They're meant to be sky scrapers but Ps2 hardware restrictions and limitations and such. Idk what if any other consoles it was on, I played on ps2, but it was a lot of fun and is definitely one of the better super hero games ever made. Idk how it is by today's standards, it may not have aged well, I'm not sure I had to sell all my X-Box, Play Stations, Wii's etc.

Still to this day....THIS is my favorite phase of all MCU films, the most honest, the best stories for individual characters in their own films without relaying on others heroes to be in the same film, and probably one of the BEST PAYOFFS in movie history....also I love Thor 1 and Iron Man 3, way better than the sequels will come later, and to this day to me Incredible Hulk is a very underrated MCU film, specially compared with what we get nowdays in the MCU. Excellent retrospective on this phase, going to watch the next part now.

I miss this MCU. I really do. I remember being an 11 year old in May 2008 and seeing the first Iron Man with my mom and being blown away by it. I still have fun, but I'm older and more grown up and I can't help but feel like it's missing that sense of wonder and possibility in recent installments. I still have fun (for the most part) though.

I am really impressed with this channel. So many attempts on channels at true retrospectives and most fail. This channel puts together quality scripts, editing, knowledge and a narrator that actually seems to know what he is talking about not just reading a script (can actually pronounce people's names correctly, etc). Could do without the amount of ad breaks but not sure the channel has control over that so... Keep up the great work!

Don’t usually comment on videos but binge watched all the Marvel summaries and bravo my friend they are excellent. Really great chronology of when things occurred and what it was like when they occurred journal style. Really interesting way of discussing them. A perfect combination of clips, commentary, making of, rumor recall, etc. you can tell you put in a ton of effort and I say from my perspective excellent work.

It never ceases to amaze me just how far the MCU has come in the last almost 15 yrs or 18 if we stretch it back to 2005..it also amazes me they were able to secure that half a billion dollar+ loan at a time when they really had no power or very little power..it's a trip looking at Kevin Feige in 2006 seeming somewhat scared to even mention an Avengers movie then ffwd 6 years and they did the near impossible and have continued doing so ..I've been a Major Marvel fan most of my 37 years so i love the success they've been having though it's very clear they need to slow down and not continue to saturate the market with so much product in such a short amount of time.. though phase 5&6 are looking really good i just hope we get there before interest runs out but hopefully Phase 4 was just a fluke of a transition period..i also don't like the way Marvel has basically monopolized the industry with numerous other studios following in their footsteps and much less original content being created..i love Marvel and the MCU but too much of anything is bad..even sex
