I picked one up about 3 years ago with 220k miles for $400. Basically they where quoted $3,800 to get it running just well enough to run on the road and it was going to get junked so i offered $100 more than what the junk would give them. Luckily they just did the timing belt and i didn't have to do that for a while. Later found who ever installed it, installed it with a tooth jumped (more signs to come that ("The Uncle" or Cousin did all the work). That braket does come out at just the right angle after you jack the motor up, either way it's very tight in there and very annoying to work on. The unusually short life of 60-75k miles on the belt is IMO the #1 killer of those older Audi TT's. I got the good Gates kit, which is "supposed" to be good for 100K but i would still check on it at 75k and every oil change after. Changed mine at 280K, I'm at 297K now I've replaced and fixed an incredible amount of things on that car. Just did the whole Evap system tubing and radiator hoses/connectors/flanges, the plastic in the connectors was literally falling apart and springing leaks straight through the plastic 😅 but i didn't mind topping off the coolant every few weeks lol. Once the radiator blew and i had everything apart i just went nuts while i was in there. Long->Short; it's my daily and about to hit 300k miles, turns on and drives like a new car. I'm sure if i take care of it the way i have been it'll last me to 400K easy and probably 500K. But i don't plan on keeping it for more than another year though Side note; the one thing that made me keep it after i fixed it initially and doing an front suspension overhaul was the handling. I was shocked how well it handles. Better than my buddys mint S2000 and balanced like a BMW. Breaks my brain how people claim body roll is normal on these cars, there is very little and it holds. You can snap it from left to right without upsetting any part of the suspension. I'm on OEM shocks, suspension BTW, and continental contisport tires. *Mine has a slot to adjust at the lower control arm for camber, front is "square" or plum. I aligned the car myself at home, once you do it a few times you catch all the nuances and becomes rather easy. Pro tip; if you have tires with thick sidewalls that hold well you don't need that much camber as the tire doesn't deflect as much

As soon as I heard the timing belt was stripped I knew the engine was done. Interference engine, it bent the valves immediately
