This is really great. I just wish you hadn't missed the detail about the silhouettes of the family burnt into the side of the house.

Thank you! I actually had planned to include a lot more of the story in the animation (including that scene, which is in my storyboard), but had to cut a lot of it so I could make the deadline.

Hey, this is weird, but uh wow I can't believe this has hit 100,000 views! I never would've thought any piece of art I shared would've gained as much attention as this has gotten. I'm so thankful to everyone who has seen this, been moved by it and shared their thoughts and criticisms on it! It feels like a lifetime ago now that I've worked on this and I feel like I've grown so much as an artist an animator since then. My output on this channel is extremely slow, but now more than ever am I motivated to making the most of it. Again, thank you all for watching, liking, disliking, commenting and interacting in any way! And as an artist, I'll keep on creating and loving it. I hope all you artists out there will keep doing the same!

I remember reading this in my scifi literature class. Its so cool to see it animated like this! This captures the haunting feeling of the original story very well. Though I feel it hits harder when you realize that this house has been abandoned for a very long time and has been performing the same routine for years, despite nobody inhabiting the house say for a deceased dog and some flies

I loved the way interpreted each scene. the animation is gorgeous and the depiction is disturbingly beautiful as it should be. the absence of any music except the sounds of the machine adds to the atmosphere of the entire thing. It makes the absence of organic life felt. I began to recall the excerpts from the book as each scene unfolded. there will come soft rains is one of my favourite books due to its clever writing and disturbing tone I am very grateful to you for animating it. I wish you prosperity in your career

This is my favorite story by Ray Bradbury. The animation depicted the story in a new way, and the animation style was adorable. 8/8

I loved this was shown it in English as an example, and the whole class loved it, the only part a few people would improve was the final line from the clock as the house burnt down, but apart from that it was amazing

My comment, for context, is comparing this to both the original text by Ray Bradbury AND (almost more importantly) the soviet animated adaption from 1984: I like the specific ways you remained faithful to the text; the electronic mice and the projected lion, giraffe, and antelope.

I like the style and you did a good job on the animation 👌👌👌 My only nitpick is that it went by a bit too fast while I think a reason the original is so good is because it set things up slowly. Like the dog, it just sorta showed up out of nowhere so it wasn't as impactful. Otherwise a very nice job!

The original story its a tale of how the world doesn't care if we all disappear thanks to nuclear hellfire it'll just go on. The story played from the role of the house that autonomously works as an AI to maintain "family" life only the ai doesn't realise everyone is dead.

I remember when I read the poem when I was in 10th grade and watched this as an assignment, and when I first read it I had a weird gut feeling that something like this is real and it may happen. I'm a Christian, and I know there is a rapture going to happen where a lot of us won't be on this earth. Looking at the world from then to now, the way we are heading and the fact that we have this AI stuff and WW3 on the horizon, and being 3 years until 2026, I can see things unfolding before my eyes. The poems seems to be getting more real everyday. I don't know about y'all but Imma keep my eyes on everything.

Work on your pacing. Sometimes letting an image sit can be much more powerful than rushing to the next thing. When you hold on a specific image, what you're communicating to the audience (subconsciously) is "You are GOING to see this. I don't care that it makes you uncomfortable, I WANT you to be uncomfortable." That sort of intentional lingering is the sort of pacing that the original short story did so well in text. The text communicates this by having all the machines attempt to continue following a normal daily routine to ZERO living response until the real horror of the situation is fully realized. In animation, you can communicate this by hanging on an image. Slow down the animation, add keyframes to force the payoff right up to the edge of the cliff, make the action more deliberate and meaningful, and hang on the frames where you know your audience is anxious to see the next thing. As it is, it just kind of shows the machines acting "normal" and then suddenly everything is on fire. Show us how we got there, build up to it, create that suspense by showing the progression and hanging during moments of suspense. "Stretch and squash" the timing, not just the pictures. Still good, keep at it. Pacing is probably the hardest thing to master for film or animation. The ability to understand and communicate very deliberate pacing is what makes Tartakovsky a genius, and that's the sort of pacing this short needs. You could honestly fix most of this with regular editing and very little actual animation changes.
