For you, people who want to recreate this in your own world, consider to build the giant chest in some place that is regularly visited by you, because some mechanism from this project make entities to move out of chests and out of hopers , thing that is not gonna happen if the chunk were it is built is not loaded. In summary , build this as close as you can to your base (really close).

@@olgagorinova6457 which will be nerfed down to 4 in 1.21. Just use chunk loaders, they are super simple to build, literally just a dispenser, 2 rails, a minecart and 10 obsidian, you just have to re-engage them everytime you restart your world

As much as I like the good old Impulse sorters, they can only sort for 1-1 type of item each. The multisorters that are spreading around on youtube like wildfire in the storage technology updates, can sort for any number of item types that you can store in a doublechest. (obviously, only stackable ones) Another note, hopprs cause lag. At least put composters on top of the hoppers that are not supposed to be pulling items from above; or even better, switch them out for waterstreams, that cause just about no lag at all. The idea of building huge blocks with the actual functionality of the blocks is nice, but I'm not sure that this does justice to a storage block like a chest.

On a previous server, i have create a giant sorting house too (over 700 different items was sorted). There is some small things you can add to your system to simplify your Minecraft life : 1) As filter items, i use Bamboo renamed as "Filters" AND as ever, the first filter is on the bamboo "Filers", so it do not jam the system if a bamboo fall in it. 2) On the top line of Hopper where items are travelling, add some comparator (and/or Redstone Lamp). So when items are pathing inside hoppers you will see where they are moving. 3) When i arrive in the building after a mining session, i was placing my Shulker Box on some hopper disguised as laboratory table. Shulkers automatically dump items into chests before they go into the sorting system. Once empty, the Shulker are ejected and collected by other Hoppers and moved to a special chest located near the exit of the building. Like this, I arrive in the building, I put down my Shulker and when I leave the building, I take my empty Shulker. 4) You can have a storage of ten double chests for each of the items that you filter, but always plan a security system to detect if one of your storage lines is not full. Particularly for stone or dirt. 5) Add a sort system too for your Iron farm to separate Iron and the flowers. You can automatically split the flowers for create Bones meal and keep some flowers. 6) I use a pattern of torch every 5 blocs for count size or my structure, it help for build A video exemple : kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJmod5ufo8RqkKM

Instead of using named filter items, you can put 2 of the item you want sorting into the first hopper slot, then 1-1-1-2 of any item that stacks to 16 (Snowballs, eggs, signs) and it filters items the same way. This is so you don't have to hold 41 of each item extra, which is good for valuable stuff like beacons, wither skulls etc

That was a very bad item sorter selection... 1. it has no separate overflow line, if chests overflows, items end up in the unsorted chests, without any indication of a fault. 2. The redstone torch will turn on and off the control hopper, but also interferes with the next hopper down the chest. If chests fill, then gets empty, items remain stuck in that hopper. In fact you probably find one item always remains stuck in that hopper. Simple but bad sorter. There is also now sortet for multiple items per chest, though they are much more complex. I use a basic sorter for bulk items (stone, dirt, bones, iron, etc), and multi-item sorted for more varied items (woods, plants, redstone, concrete, terracotta, etc). Works very well!
