The best part of this film was the literal ending. During the prison scene where you see all of the past villains from the previous films all together for the first time in the series. And you can see that the villains from the Minions films have clearly aged and also Vector did somehow made it back to Earth.

The only intimidating thing about Maxime was that he sliced through the trophy and cut Gru's face in the beginning of the movie. Being able to slice through a golden trophy would probably mean that if he was just inches closer he could of killed Gru. Unfortunately, by the end of the movie his threat dropped a ton and he just tried to pull a Syndrome from Incredibles.

Okn I see nobody is understanding Maxime, but he is probably one of the coolest kind of villains from all the franchise. And this kind is : The invisible treath. He is not here the most of the time, but the way the others characters speaks about him. You are afraid by Maxime. He is strong, he is smart, he is surely the most evil villains, who use psychological torture by kidnapping Gru's child. Everyone tell he is bad (in the wrong way), well I say non. Just analyse him, and you will understand how he is incredible. It's what that save the movie, or there's no had interest.

My issue with movies like this, we're four movies in and outside of having the baby, and the inclusion of the goat from the last movie, nothing has changed. The girls look the same, Gru and Lucy look the same, it looks as though time has not progressed in the slightest. I know they're just cartoon characters, but it's strange that Lucy carried a baby for 9 months, they have a baby who is however old now, and the girls haven't changed at all. They aren't any older, they didn't change styles, they're stuck. Not to mention that the writers struggle to think of anything interesting for them to do while Gru and Lucy are dealing with the main plot/threat, while the Minions just do their random shenanigans. You may as well write them out of the franchise and it wouldn't matter. Also the baby... does the typical "hates one parent but loves the other" until the end when it really matters trope. Haven't seen that a million times before.

Yes we know Gru's doing most of the work, working for the AVL while Lucy is taking care of the gorls and Gru Jr but STILL. The franchise lost all its appeal during the second film. It was refreshing to see a middle-aged protagonist - one that was a villain no less - raising 3 adopted girls as a single father. That premise is original and interesting, but unfortunately, we had to have a typical nuclear family and make Gru a hero right away.

Yeah, I've kinda been seeing that recently in Kung Fu Panda 4 and Teenage Kraken. Both movies have good stories that could've been better (had a bunch of flaws [not Teenage Kraken tho. The only flaw was the trailer which spoiled the entire movie] but that's okay) but the animation is dope. I think the main issue is that the movie industry is inclining more towards animation quality than story telling. Which is the reason why both movies weren't liked very much. And Despicable Me 4 proves my point. Cuz the animation quality is great but the story, villain and uniqueness of the movie sucked. So far, this is the worst Despicable Me film.

Alrighty, this sucks and I hate bad villains, so watch me try to make a better backstory for the roach despite being a fanfiction writer with no formal experience whatsoever. Maxime never knew who his parents were, as his father had died from malaria due to a bug bite and his mother perished from difficulties with the pregnancy, to preserve the pg rating and satisfy fans this would not be directly stated but implied through images and dialogue. Maxime is sent to the orphanage of doom, an orphanage made specifically for raising villains which routinely tortures and abuses the children it cares for so they can become real villains. At some point in his life after this, Max graduates from middle school and enters the same evil high school as Gru. The two became fast friends, relating with their love of odd things such as inventions, ice, insects and jelly. Gru was loyal to Maxime and even helped him score a girlfriend, who remained his only female companion due to normal people thinking him too creepy and villains thinking him too flamboyant. Finally, Gru and Maxime signed up for a evil invention project, and both hoped this could be their big break. Max and Gru worked together to create the freeze ray 2.0, a stronger and much more reliable version of the freeze ray that could freeze for longer, hold more fuel, and even freeze things as large as an elephant with some effort. The plan was simple, they would go on stage together and present the evil invention together! Gru and Maxime would share in the notoriety. Except that didn't happen, as Gru had lied to Max the whole time about the nature of the project, only one person could announce the invention. So, when the day came, Maxime holding the notes for the presentation and Gru holding the freeze ray. Gru was called. But not max. Max laughed it off, this was just a misunderstanding... right? But Gru still went up and presented it anyways, winning him clapping and cheers. Max cried "Did I not assist you?!" Gru froze, but lied to the audience "what?! No! I did this on my own!" Max was crushed. Even more crushed when he saw the golden medal of deviousness given to Gru. Maxime's obsession with bugs only grew now. He was as insignificant to his only friend as a quiet housefly. He sat there with tears in his eyes, and his Girlfriend was the only one to comfort him. Maxime moved on with life after that, resuming being a b tier villain without much relevance. He wanted to be a father, but for medical reasons, it just seemed like he couldn't make one. And forget about adopting when you are a supervillain. Unless you have a bunch of goofy minions forging your documents, but Maxime did not. So, seeing Gru again at the reunion, he had hoped Gru wanted to pick up their old friendship. But he was wrong. Gru tried to arrest him, but Maxime fought back by turning into a cockroach and flying away. Maxime wanted revenge now, and you know how super-villains feel about revenge. He looked in on Gru's life, and saw him play with his daughters, interact with his minions, be respected by his colleagues at AVL, all things he just didn't have. And most of all, He had a son. *Maxime began to feel.... jealous.*

In my opinion the minions strangely had like barley any screentime which was... weird cause they are the money powerhouse of illumination, its weird how the villian likes cockroaches, its weird how a 40 year old man sneaks out with a teenager, and the villian gets clapped by a baby (Also Maxime had a whole army of cockroaches and didn't use them?)

I consider this film better than Despicable Me 3 and Minions. It knows it’s just a 90 minute movie of gags and cute family fluff and just rolls with it. DM3 tried too hard to have stories and Minions was just brain rotting.
