Do you think if a woman moves in with a guy she's dating, she should pay rent?

Grace Hun I was looking for this comment. I guess she wasn't being "old school" when she decided to do that. Or maybe she was being old school because if you remember, in a different clip she stated "we all chipped in together to help pay for my wedding?"

I think that had to do with the traditional idea that the father of the bride pays for the wedding, but since Tam had the means to pay for her own dream wedding, she took on the father-of-the-bride monetary role herself to cover the main costs, and let people who wanted to chip in do so

Grace Hun I have to speak on this, ok Tamera was willing to pay for her own wedding because she is the one who wanted the big wedding celebration, and the people that were going were mostly her guests, so I understand that. Now, she mentioned she was “ old school” back in the days, a man who wanted you as his partener, would never ask his lady to contribute, a man is considered the protector, the bread winner, that’s where Tamera is coming from when she asks. Let’s be fair, some people are tradicional and some are liberal, in my opinion, a real man pays for his lady’s needs 😉

She wasn’t making the conversation harder than it needs to be tbh, she just thought it meant literally having to pay rent if you staying there like a tenant, the wording used to describe the scenario doesn’t make it hard to see it that way. So from her perspective she was trying to reasoning it out that way, then she just sought clarification after hearing what the other girls were trying to say, no big deal.

peanutjelly see personally if you want to charge me rent, then I’m going to be your tenant not your partner in this household. As a couple we should one hundred percent share the costs of living together. But I will not be renting the space in the bed beside you. If you want to be a landlord put out a listing for tenants. If you want a partnership I’ll definitely pay my part. But it’s just too messy for me to view my boyfriend as my landlord.

And I think that's what confused Tamera the most was the whole "Charge her rent" part of the sentence because that SOUNDS very much like a tenant/owner situation. It certainly sounded like it when just looking at the title and hearing the very beginning of the first part of the video. I mean, I got it after a moment, but they really shouldn't have said the phrase, "Charge his girlfriend rent".

It is normal. Many ppl have 2 homes. Either someone inherited a home, purchased a home before they got married then moved into their spouses home, and there are millions of couples who went to college for an actual education like engineering (like myself) or a doctorate of some sort, architecture, etc that gives you a good income to purchase a 2nd residence. It's not difficult.

@@neonpandasI think Tia is more knowledgeable about the world because she dated and slept with her boyfriend even before marriage, so possibly lived together with him too. Tamera is very removed from the modern world and the average person because she did the old fashioned thing and waited for marriage to have sex and live with her man. So she is old fashioned and doesn't know a lot of basic things, particularly when it comes to the topic of living together before marriage.

The one who exemplifies godly morals, and speak from an understanding of godly wisdom & godly knowledge IS NOT A "CLUELESS" PERSON. Tamara is a virtuous woman who fears the only True God and she is loved for being unashamed for the godliness she represents. Those who are offended by her hates the truth that radiates in love from within her.

People calm tf down, we all know Tamera is not some sheltered 1950's housewife. Of course she knows that couples split bills and costs, she paid for her own wedding for god's sake, she's said in the past that she and her husband would pay rent together depending on how much each was earning every month. I think her confusion literally all came down to the word 'rent,' the idea being that a couple has an agreement where one pays a monthly rent to the other who owns the house - that is a completely different situation which is weird irrespective of whether the two are in a relationship imo.

Right. I really don't get why Tamera was having such a hard time with this. Even if you don't live that life, why is it so hard to grasp? *Gasp* People split bills with their bf/gf. "Help me understand". Like, what? I've never lived with a boyfriend either and I still know it happens and have an opinion on it. And then she said, "I guess this is how people are doing things now". People have been doing that forever. Does Tamera have to personally be in every situation to understand it? I really hope she's just playing dumb. Either that or she just likes to take every opportunity to tell us about herself.
@dom7207
@dom7207 6 жыл бұрын
I think she was just trying to understand the context of the situation. Like for instance, a guy owns a home, he moves the girl in, and then tells the girl ok you owe me 1500 the 1st of each month. When you say it like that..its kinda weird. Are you moving me in because you love me or because you need money? WHEREAS, if they had gotten a place together its a no brainer they'd share costs. Depending on the context of the situation it can seem very normal or a little weird.

Dom I concur. The senario the show put out was too vague and ambiguitous. That's why Tamera was asking questions--to clarify. Some people in this comment section are acting like she's stupid or judging others for living together before marriage. No need to be insecure, she was just trying to get clarification on the senario. It kind of didn't make complete sense to me either. For instance, if I bought a home and I had a man, I'm not moving him in until I know for sure he is the one I want to commit to forever. I would rather just own the house and have tentants pay me to share a room. I don't like mixing business with pleasure. I need clear cut lines drawn.

I get Tam in this topic, cause the question wasn’t if the girl should pay, the question was if the guy should ask her to pay... to this I’ll say that he shouldn’t tell her specifically to pay the rent, but I would advise him to have a finance talk with his girlfriend, where they both can agree on spliting the house bills...

Tamera thank you for being a voice of godly wisdom on this panel. You share with the world good knowledge and from what you selflessly share we do get understanding that propels us unto examining our lives and thrive for goodness. Many seems to get offended by the godly standards you stand for and is not ashamed of but please do not let the naysayers upset you. You share with a genuine motive to encourage others unto the Peace and the success you yourself have reap in life. You are proud of the joy you have and so you should be. In sharing you are showing your gratitude and for that we love you and are glad for your refreshing contributions. Let me take this opportunity to say, when the other ladies on the panel responded "it's the same thing". It is Important to note that a natural husband and his wife distributing their family responsibilities by carefully considering and balancing the cost according to what the family is bringing in or in a position to contribute IS NOT "THE SAME THING" as two people who are not in a natural marriage but are nonetheless intimate with one another and have the privilege of not being obligated to commit to the relationship, therefore they are free to walk away at anytime without having to bear the responsibility that a natural husband or a natural wife will naturally have to bear. Tamera, you keep being proud of the truth you know and stand successful and confident in, keep radiating the glow of integrity and godly morals you know and believe in. Keep lifting up what works in your life and keep being a representative of the love that gives you perfect contentment. Many will be offended by your godly morals and in so being many will look to condemn the values you share by calling you all manner of names, many will say all manner of evil things about your character but don't ever let them weary you out, don't ever let them provoke you to be ashamed of the truth that strengthens you. Sure, your feeling/emotions will become affected by the unjust condemnations at times but keep strong in your faith and you will always find strength from Jesus the Saviour of your soul. Your Lord and your friend will renew your mind and you will find new inner strength to rise above the naysayers. Praying for you Tamera, never forget this "Most important of all, you must sincerely love each other, because love wipes away many sins." You know that it is Christ who gives you perfect Peace following the fans effort to try and break you down, so keep holding on to the values of the only one who has power to renew your strength and uplift you after you have been trampled on by the naysayers. Keep being unashamed to love your husband and your children which Abba Father have blessed you with. Keep being thankful for the rewards your heavenly Father showers you with. Stay humble Tamera and never be too ashamed to come back on the panel and apologise to your co-host whenever you have responded to them from a personal place and not from the loving, kind, compassionate, truthful godly place that you ought to. Don't ever become familiar/friends with puffed up pride, let go of pride do not hold hands with pride. Pride is vain and self-conceited and it will never let you be free to do what is right. Never let pride hold you back from admitting that you have been wrong, always put right your wrongs so that others will always see the light brightly shining in you, never let the light go dim. "For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth." Never be provoked by the masses to become the standard of the women they are familiar with. You do not need the kind of self-indulgent fame of the Kardashians or the self-idolising goddesses of the fame of Beyonce and many others who do not fear The Most High God to be loved and to be appreciated. And please do not join in with others who feel that they are obligated to glorify Beyonce or Kim, or Oprah or anyone else that is treated like gods. Do not live your life in fear of fallible flesh and blood instead only fear The Most High God. Tamera, you are loved by some of us for the virtuous beauty you radiate, you are a breath of fresh air that is safe to be in the same environment in and breathe in, your morals will not harm anyone but will help all to be better human beings in our community and world. God have blessed you Tamera and no man can ever accomplish anything when they enviously attempt to curse you-their curse shall prosper nothing.. Tamera, stay faithful to your heavenly Father who Created you and is the One who is working all things out for your good, and your light shall never ever be put out, you shall keep brightly shining in Jesus name.

For me personally, this isn't an issue with my husband because we don't see our income as something seperate but ours as a family. What we make, we use to pay rent/bills etc.. we just don't see it as "he pays rent with salary and I pay groceries with mine"... it's ours.

We would NOT be having this conversation if a woman bought a house and her boyfriend was living there rent free/not contributing to the mortgage. Everyone would be all up in arms! miniimufin No, it’s the same in both scenarios. Everybody should contribute financially, but it’s weird to to me to charge them rent. It’s one thing if the situation just has y’all moving in as roommates, it’s something else entirely if you’re talking moving the situation forward and being together. To me it sounds the same as a husband/wife charging their spouse rent just because the house they bought only is in one person’s name. That’s not his tenant...

Djenne J I personally would not be shacking up with a significant other if I didn't see the relationship going somewhere, I.e that would later be OUR house. To each their own I guess, but I would definitely be contributing to a monthly Mortgage payment. It would be a different story if the house was paid off and the bf/gf was charging the other rent (as in extra income).

I think he shouldn't charge her, if she wnats to contribute (which would be great) then it is up to her.... But at the end of the day (I don't care if it is considered old school) but I would want a man that wants to care for me and provide for me, kind of like Steve Harvey's perspective, sometimes old school is better! And I think it could be a little different with boyfriend-girlfriend relashionships, but with MARRIGE the man shouldn't expect for his wife to pay for anything unless she offers to...I think it is much better to chip in to help your man and to have some ownership over the house, ESPECIALLY that they are not married, you don't know what could happen ,at the same time he should be willing to spend on her and her "rent"... That is just my opinion tho!🤷🏻‍♀️💛

Statically more marriages fail in divorce because of living together before hand . It's a fact it's because of the expectations and more women before hand are giving away everything for free . The man not all get the perks of having a wife before she is actually his wife. He doesn't earn it or show that she is worth it to wait . Gods way is fir s reason and when we don't it is often a lot harder.

I'm sorry....I'm with Tamera....I feel like either I'm missing the point or everyone is making a different point from the original topic. This man BOUGHT a house and he wants to know if the girlfriend should PAY RENT (not split the rent) in order to live with him. That is not your girlfriend...that is your tenant....I don't get it....what does bills have to do with it? That's not the point. He already bought the house...it's his....he owns it. It's not a lease....he isn't paying rent. It is HIS HOUSE. Making her pay to live there is just not acceptable! I'm so sorry. Splitting bills or contributing to the home IS NOT the same as paying rent. I'm so confused by the points everyone is making......The issue wasn't whether or not she should contribute....it's whether she should pay rent in order to live there....and hell no she shouldn't!

Belle d'Afrique Tamera DOES NOT sound condescending but it is rather that some folks (you being one of them) who listens to her moral values become offended by her choice to uphold godly ways, as such they interpret her speech as "being condescending" and they reconcile her words according to their own standards which then provokes them unto perceiving her motive as being of a condescending intent. She have no reason to be ashamed of the godly wisdom and knowledge she was trained up to value and uphold. She have no reason to feel ashamed for having chosen to fear, respect and yield to her godly upbringing. And she should certainly not be afraid to testify in the spirit of liberty of the godly morals she yielded to and still proudly hold onto. Howbeit that the others are not being labelled as being judgemental for sharing their opinion?? Examine yourself and recognise that your judgement which concluded Tamera as having a "condescending" character is judging her through your own tainted visual sight, as such you end up seeing what is not there and fail to recognise that your accusation is coming from a place of self-condemnation. Tamera should not be hated nor despised for having chosen to yield to and live the godly life her parents imparted to her. She ought to be appreciated for her godly morals, the light she represents and the godly examples she humbly (in most instances) contribute on the panel. The truth is, even many who are living immoral lives do not wish to keep feeding their minds on the harmful and destructive immoral values and knowledge shared by those who indulges in immorality lifestyle. Many inwardly desire to see and hear of examples of good morals so that they to could be encouraged unto good works and not to be encouraged unto bad works/more immorality.

If you're cohabiting with someone, the cleanest route is both being on the lease for a rental. But when one person *owns* something, like the home or the car, it gets a bit more complicated. For us, when my bf bought a car, that I can use freely, we agreed I'd help with maintenance, insurance, etc, but not the payment (since he was building equity, and I was not). A house is more complicated and a lot more expensive. She should pay rent. This also protects her, as she as certain rights under the law.

The way this conversation is being framed is not helpful. Dude is making an investment which happens to double as his home. She is moving from having her own place to living with him without a legal agreement. Even if they stay together long term (married or otherwise) as things stand, that is his asset, not theirs. When things turn, unless she has a legal agreement, she may as well have been pissing in the wind. Sister needs a proper contract on what she's contributing to. I would have a tenancy agreement so he can't just turf her when the going gets rough. Sharing bills is not the same as paying towards someone else's mortgage.
@dardarbinx07
@dardarbinx07 6 жыл бұрын
She should contribute to the bills. She should not be paying rent. That is different. Utilities vary monthly, that is a conversation you should have with your significant other beforehand, and she is going to make those bills higher by living there, so clearly she should be helping pay for those, but if he invites her to move in - he shoudlnt expect rent. I would never move in with a man who said to me "if you move in your rent is ____"

keiwana danyell Exactly, plus it wouldn't be his rent it would be his mortgage. He's paying for something he'll own for the rest of his life, she's not. Rent is an apartment, buying a house is different. People can move into apartments together and split rent and be a normal couple, but if someone loses their job and can't pay the other half are you gonna kick them out? No cause then that's not a relationship the other person either picks up that half of the rent, or youre evicted together as a couple. If you buy a house and offer someone else to move in they are not obligated to pay towards your ownership of it - even if they live there. They should be contributing and covering at least what they create in bills but that's it.

Yung activist 100%. He's out there making a life for himself, he just bought a house- that's unfortunately more than a lot of people can say these days - but it's his house, he wouldn't have purchased it if he couldn't have paid the bills. Most people aren't with their significant other for their money, so no money for extras shouldnt bother you if hes out there working and paying his bills. If both their names were on the house then yes, she should contribute to the cost of the mortgage, but it's not. It's his, so she should only be helping with bills and not his purchasing of the home. No one is forcing him to let her live there either, so if his only condition for her moving in is to pay rent she shouldn't move in in the first place.

Tamera is not clueless or dumb. This question needed a bit more clarity. He is in an romantic relationship with a woman and asks someone else if he should charge her rent? He should be having this conversation with her and only her, not asking some someone else for advice. If you are buying a house and you have asked her to move in with you the conversation shouldn't be about rent but how will we split some of the household bills? If she is a woman of integrity and pride she would have it no other way. She would want to contribute to the bills. But how is he going to ask her if he can charge her rent if he is her boyfriend? Those were his words not anyone else's. That thought should not have entered his mind. Keep in mind in some Landlords charge Rent but they do not include other household expenses like, Water, Heat and Electricity, you will have to pay for that separately. However, it is a slippery slope when you are not married to the person and living with them, you lose a lot of rights you would otherwise have if you were married.

@veronicaivanova 6 жыл бұрын
jonny davis, I feel you don't understand what gender equality is. If the woman's name is not on the mortgage agreement and the title deeds or on the tenancy agreement in case of renting, it is exactly the opposite of gender equality for her to pay mortgage or rent as in case of a break up, she will be on the street with nothing and he will remain in the property as his name is on all legal documents. She won't be able to claim what she put in. It is gender equality to have both names on the legal documents, so both parties have proof of their legal entitlement. If someone's name is not on the paperwork, it is not fair for them to pay towards something that is not theirs. They can instead pay for bills and groceries. If you cannot understand the concept of this, you won't be able to understand what equality means either.

The word rent is the issue. That’s the term you use like roommates but your bf/gf I think you both naturally should ask each other how to pitch in. I think it’s quite simple, for me at least, she should contribute just have in mind the consequences after a breakup, and if she is not ok with the fact that he would most likely stay with the house then it is on her to just say no..that’s just how I see..

This is actually pretty common for people in there 20s. It’s cheaper to buy a house certain places and sometimes the relationship is ready to move in together but not really ready to commit to a house together. I have many friends, boys and girls, who’ve been able to afford a house but their significant other pays “rent”.

Everyone always talking down on Tamera but I was raised the same way as Tamera and when you were RAISED like that its not that you mean to speak down on other people's life choices but it's just a concept you can't wrap your head around because you weren't raised to think like that. So when I have discussions with other people I sometimes need them to help me understand something. People are always trying to find something wrong with someone that woman does not mean no harm stop being so damn sensitive.

Crissy S She had class and standards. People are jealous of her because they know they are low lives. Sad but true.

We understand & respect the way you and Tamera were raised.. All some people are saying is that why is it so hard for Tamera to grasp the fact that if a couple (married or NOT) moves in together, then BOTH should contribute to the bills... 😩... She can't have a simple discussion hypothetically without throwing marriage in there!

jodiii122 i think it's because she does the house woman thing in the house like clean, cook and make sure the kids are taken care of and he deals with the bills. But she also said she pays for the other house which confused me. I remember when i wasn't working and my boyfriend was i took care of the house while he paid bills but i got bored after a few months and i just save our money for us and get grocery, phone bill and gas the rest goes to saving but he always says i dont got to

Annelise Olivares Where did she say she thinks she's better? She gave her opinion and was respectful about it. Because you need your tears wiped and you're sensitive because you feel insecure about YOUR past descions, you are attacking Tamera like she's done something wrong when she hasn't. A lot of her co workers have said very stupid judgemental things yet nobody attacks them. Tamera is a very classy girl with her head on right. She knows that she made a mistake by sleeping with her husband before marriage, that's why she shared that info with the world. If she was "fake" she would have never shared that and even if she didn't share it still wouldn't make her fake. She was raised a certain way and there's nothing wrong with it. She has only been with one man and kept standards. Stop being insecure.

Joint bills (electric, phone, cable, water, gym, and whatever) divided evenly or at a percentage according to each person's income. Pay for your own stuff, car, insurance etc. Married 13 years in December and me and my wife rarely ever fought about money. Never had a joint account

Tam literally had no idea what this topic was about 😂 Two grown ass adults living together should share the cost of living together. Boom, done. There’s no “I’m old school” or “they’re not even married”. It doesn’t matter if its 2 best friends or a couple or 2 siblings. Nobody gets a free ride; you gotta pitch in. Period.

Tamera brought a good point. Both pay, and then he owns the house. What a relationship. Girl, invest in your own home.
