The leaked majority draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health-which suggests the Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, returning the question of abortion to the states-is part of a broader assault against women. The COVID-19 pandemic, for instance, has seen an estimated 30% increase in violent attacks against women, along with the curtailment of their rights. This assault, writes author and activist V, is “the most severe setback to women’s liberation in my lifetime.”
Much of this abuse, including an increase in sex and labor trafficking, is driven by the loss of work, further disempowering women. “In the US, more than 5 million women’s jobs were lost between the start of the pandemic and November 2020,” V writes in The Guardian. “Because much of women’s work requires physical contact with the public-restaurants, stores, childcare, healthcare settings-theirs were some of the first to go. Those who were able to keep their jobs were often frontline workers whose positions have put them in great danger; some 77% of hospital workers and 74% of school staff are women. Even then, the lack of childcare options left many women unable to return to their jobs.”
In this installment of The Chris Hedges Report, Chris speaks with V about how the expected overturning of Roe and the attacks on LGBTQ+ rights are part of a global, reactionary, theocratic war for patriarchal domination. V (formerly known as Eve Ensler) is a Tony-award winning playwright, author, and activist. Her new book is The Apology.
Chris Hedges interviews writers, intellectuals, and dissidents, many banished from the mainstream, in his half-hour show, The Chris Hedges Report. He gives voice to those, from Cornel West and Noam Chomsky to the leaders of groups such as Extinction Rebellion, who are on the front lines of the struggle against militarism, corporate capitalism, white supremacy, the looming ecocide, as well as the battle to wrest back our democracy from the clutches of the ruling global oligarchy.

And we graciously appreciate you courageous, honorable brothers (& all other beautiful beings standing beside us) for your compassion & integrity. We are always stronger together 🙏💙🙏 I'm so sorry you experienced the cruelty that you did. I personally don't care what anyone was born as or chooses to ID as from that point further, no one/thing (since we'll also have AI with bodies too, now, that will probably be just as abused if we don't improve 🙄) with life deserves to be subjected to such evil inhumanity. The fact that it so regularly occurs to children as well is just more proof that we're not "a higher, more advanced" species at all. Our achievements are hollow just like the vastest majority of us. Let alone what's left of our "morality." I am ever grateful for those of us creating our own, healthier worlds within this world. By serving as living examples that we can do far better with our compassion & sanity than these abysmal examples of our inhumanity & insanity can, we are healing & changing our world for its embetterment. So thank you, & Chris H., & V, everyone involved with this channel, & myself for being alive & choosing better. We're making it happen ❤️‍🔥🙏❤️‍🔥

I would love to see V and Gabor Mate in conversation. Her comments linking trauma and cancer dovetail perfectly with Mates research findings. I'm in complete agreement with V's observations about apology and patriarchy - as well as the foundational role of genocide and slavery in American history. An apology can be insincere, but it still requires an admission of wrong doing.

The film is available through an organization called Science and Nonduality (SAND). Maybe you can get access to the interview as well. I still want to re--listen to it as they were amazing in conversation, as were the many other conversations Gabor had that wreek.

Clinton and Harris both have vaginas. It's a class war not a gender war. Women choose to put themselves into indoor sheltered work situations. Why don't women work outdoors? Because indoor work is easier physically. Making it a gender war makes men your enemy. As a male I can now no longer support sexist women's privileges.

I believe women must make a call to a gender strike. In every aspect of society were gender is deterministic of outcomes, non-participation by women would force idiotic men to confront their prejudice and fervent embrace of patriarchy. I am sick of men holding, grabbing, collecting, abusing, and exercising power in the world. We have had of enough of the failed systems of patriarchy and need to move rational justice. Repression is easy, an idiot can exercise power without the need for thought or consideration. We must lift enlightened voices such that the "might makes right" crowd drowns in the echos of their lunacy.

Such a great interview with V... She moved me so much.. Thx Chris... And... An apology has to be meant and sincere, not just empty words.. Human duplicity, the capacity to lie seems second nature... Especially amongst the power elites.. It is a pernicious part of the century of the self... Our PM here in the UK is the epitomy of a hubristic denialist, lying eliteist, patriarchal, mysogynist of the first Order. 56 members of Parliament are under investigation for Sex crimes at this moment! One long time MP has just been suspended for serious crimes including rape going back over a decade, declared just this week. No one knows yet who this man is... It is subjudicy... A tory long serving MP resigned about 3 weeks back for viewing porn in the house of commons chamber... He tried at first to cover it up! Another was suspended last year, a gay tory MP for sexually harassment on multiple occasions. He managed to avoid a recall petition on some arcane parliamentary rule.. He had the tory whip removed but would not do the decent thing and resign, he sits still, as an independent but on the tory benches. . The UK Parliament and it is mainly the Tory right is beset with sleaze, rampant corruption and lies... Scandel after scandal in this rotten Johnson Goverment! Great great show Chris.... V was fantastic...

Apologies are worthless self-serving aggressions. Conviction, contrition, repentance, all express themselves through sacrifice. Only an American could think that saying "I was wrong" is a sacrifice. (For an American, it must be an awful torture.) Taking a predator's apology seriously is just silly. If someone is actually sorry for something, you'll know it.

Sent the city a letter of warning, An investigation would have determined the city was not the party the applied the chemicals that threatened my life. The City refused to file a trespass against my assailant because the had personal financial gain. There is no other case in the US that a citizen has been forced from their private property to escape chemicals applied with intent to cause serious physical harm and eliminate them from their private property.

I've been reading and listening to Chris Hedges for about 10 years. And he always comes back to the same thing. Maybe it's because of his background, I don't know. Maybe he wants the spotlight, or feels like he needs to. Some of what he has taught me is invaluable, but so much of it seems to originate from theology, and I think it distorts it. I always questioned why the WSWS talks negatively about him, apart for when he was censored. He always comes back to the "patriarchy", or "men", or somethings like "war is a bad thing". And I have seen so many people in the comment section of his articles saying things like "this is so depressing" and "but what is there to do!?". Yet no one seems to exactly figure it out, while the answer is right there in front of us. The answer is internationalist socialism, or solidarity between workers worldwide, yet it is seen as a footnote.

Another example of the cognitive dissonance applied to spare the ego: a guy I worked with, clearly defensive about the huge gas-guzzling truck he drove, was telling me how not so bad the pollution they produce is, you know, compared with earlier vehicles. Riiiiight. I guess that's how he makes himself feel good about destroying the planet. It reminds me of the book about rape culture called "Not So Bad" which refers to the way most women have been made to feel that the various violations they've suffered have really been "not so bad," nothing really to complain about.

I know better than anyone that this sounds too extreme to be believable. Give me a few minutes of your time and the benefit of doubt before you pass judgement. I owned land in Montrose, Lee County, Iowa. I operated an upholstery shop and lived on my property for ten years. Then the Mayor sold the adjoining lot to a soon to be council member. He was held above the law. He redeveloped the property on fraudulent building permits issued by the city. It was a non conforming lot and State building code restricted any new structures could not have a footprint larger than the existing structures. That did not apply to this new neighbor. He filled the property with structures so big he had to turn them sideways to squeeze them on the property. That resulted in all storm water from the entire property being diverted onto my property. My complaints were ignored because I was a divorced female with no political influence. When this guy finished the redevelopment 3 years later he discovered the redevelopment was going to be denied being recorded on the County plat map. The courts would have ordered him to remove the non compliant structures. I have the building permits. They (government officials) determined his remedy was to eliminate me from my property. He used chemicals unlawfully applied on my property to cause me serious bodily injury or death. I was denied a trespass against this terrorist. I have the EPA field reports proving all this is true. The FBI advised me that this was not terrorism, it was torture. The FBI also determined no violation of Federal law has occurred. What is not a violation of Federal law? Private property rights. Unlawful seizure? torture? Due process? The presentation on this agent is remarkable. I was forced to flee from my property in an attempt to save my life. It was a long slow process after five long years of being intentionally exposed to these chemicals, The EPA determined the chemicals were Glyphosate. I was charged multiple times for crimes based on fabricated laws and ordinances. My condition is chronic. I really don’t have anywhere but videos regarding public corruption to post my story. Anyone willing to review my evidence of prosecutorial misconduct, torture under color of law, deprivation of rights under color of law, fraud on the court, legal abuse, violations of my 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendments? Wonderful program! As I was listening to this beautiful intelligent Woman and Human I couldn`t get out of my mind as an Atheist, how the Human Animal has evolved. We really did start out in the Human Animal Species as animals trying to survive the elements not to mention what we were sexually, can you imagine? We are better off of coarse but haven`t succeeded and in some cases bc of fear and the use of religions and gods for fear of losing control, we are moving backwards like in the u.s. and many religious countries around the world ESPECIALLY Saudi Arabia! The question is whether these white colonialist zillionaires who control the u.s. , canada, u.k., e.u. their citizens and their bank accounts don`t decide to start WW3, what the heck they`re so old and special why should anyone else live if they can`t?! The same scared fools with tons of money that you are talking about are also the same people that start the wars but always lose like they are doing in Ukraine! They have lost every war and have failed MISERABLY and like frat brat drama queens they scream and rant bc they aren`t winning and getting their way except amongst and against the American citizen! Bottom line is that you and I will win soon only if these NUTS don`t start WW3, it`s inevidible and natural evolution!!! We are lucky to have people like this to watch, it seems like the truth squeezes out some how as it did in many forms during WW2 fighting the hitler and the azoff today!!

While Eve Ensler has made a contribution to women's empowerment over the years, she has fallen into the realm of having an antiquated perspective on some of these issues. She remains firmly stuck in the rigid duality of "men as perpetrators and women as victims". This is a perspective that does no one any favors. While it demonizes all men, it puts women in the mold of helplessness and disempowerment. It also neglects to acknowledge the violence and harm that women are capable of, and that is now coming to light as more men report sexual and domestic violence in the home. The emerging narrative has to evolve beyond gender as the defining characteristic, and move toward a raw understanding of power... who has it and who doesn't have it, regardless of gender. The younger generation understands this, and the elders need to listen. Also... Look at all the women in positions of power in corporations and government who are responsible for the ongoing misery of countless millions of women and children across the globe. It's astounding when you open your eyes to this reality. Time to wake up.

So what do you do to help with this? Are you working towards a mens shelter where abused men can seek refuge? Are you teaching or supporting classes where men learn the basics of child care so that they are able to really leave an abusive relationship without the woman holding power over them through the children? Or, are you only here to add to womens burden by demanding they liberate men too, without mens help? It seems that way, demanding that every aspect of society should be brought up in a halfhour long interview. In that case you might suffer from male fragility, somewhere realizing that you profit from the system, without wanting to take responsibility for that profit. (They didn't mention that men can be victims too! WAAAH) Also... Women who have succeeded in this system have adapted to it, adapted its values. That's why the whole system needs to change. That women too can be assholes was something feminism discussed a lot in the 80s (*cough* Thatcher *cough*). If you're here to help change the system, or help men suffering from it, welcome. If not, scurry off to the nearest MR forum. I think you will find a better fit there.

Yes, men are often victims of violence. Mostly from other men. The focus of this interview was on patriarchy and its effects on women. Maybe Chris Hedges can do a follow up on Disaster Patriarchy and how it affects: men; children; environment; animals; economy; education etc.

Feminism in the USA has been a load of ideological mandating bullshit for many years. Gloria Steinem was a CIA agent when she founded Ms. Magazine with CIA funding, the whole idea was to put men against women and to cast all the blame on men. The USA is not a patriarchy. That’s bullshit. Women have full and equal civil rights and blaming men for the reversal of Roe v Wade is ridiculous. The religious right wing took over the Republican Party 40 years ago and they have a majority in the Supreme Court.

My ONLY objection at all to V's language is when she says the patriarchy is "reclaiming" power---they're STEALING IT BACK. "Reclaiming" implies the possibility that some part of that action is legitimate or moral. NO. My grandparents, my mother and a bunch of my uncles and aunts got thrown into concentration camps during WW2. It was legally allowed---it wasn't legitimate OR moral. That's not really a response to what i've said. More so just ignoring it to double down on your mischaracterization. Shes not saying all men are savage, abusive monsters. Shes discussing men's behaviors systemic to society that uphold and prolong patriarchy. Not sure what your simple moral dichotomy about Hitler and Gandi has to do with that. But sure, making sweeping generalizations about a whole minority of people is real bad. Youre just a male and have an insecurity about hearing criticisms about men and their historic role in our society. Which is okay. You just need to move on from that to have productive conversations. States rights vs Federal Government rights. I'm so amazed at how many really smart peoole dont know the Constitution. The Federal Government was meant to be very limited. States will be able to determine abortion laws. Most people do support abortion in the first trimester, especially if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest. Some stares will do as NY did, and allow abortion up to the time of birth. Some states will require a woman to view the process of abortion and a sonogram, so she can make an informed decision. Some states will ban abortion. People are not required to live in a state that they disagree with the state's laws. Interesting all the fight for women's rights, but where were you when, as a nurse, no one fought for my right to keep my job if I didn't agree to be vaccinated. All of a sudden, it wasn't my body, my choice.

I don’t care what the colour or gender of the person is I do not support supremacy in any form and the things that she was saying and the structure in which she was speaking emulates that of supremacists. when one starts using words “better and greater” to define themselves in contrast to others I have a problem with that. This Women’s hatred of men and male existence comes across very clear. I am a supporter of Chris but sometimes he interviews people who are on the fringes or who have serious and or significant psychological issues despite however the society elevates them in the media. i’m sorry but this woman is full of hate and I’m not going to entertain any of the hatred that she spews towards men. and yes most of what she said are in fact lies! You cannot find unity through division. you cannot find equality through putting down others and repressing or disenfranchising others. People like this woman help to create the very thing that they claim to be against. Yeah people wonder why young men go and shoot up schools or have breakdowns. Perhaps some of the anti male rhetoric that this individual spews out is a part of the problem? my stance has been and always will be, that the day that western society decides to invest in the well-being of young men and boys and see to it that their development is grounded in a supportive community that promotes balanced ideas about life and understanding. equal access to education and mental health resources. that will be the day when things like mass shootings in random violence perpetuated by young men will begin to decrease. men are not all the same , lumping “men “ together into one group when their are vast, gross blatant differences in how some men have access to social and economic resources.

Since ultimately government is FORCE and if nothing else it was this realization that was directly expressed by those who rebelled against it...and attempted to design a system that would be resistant to the expected ambitions of a central government... multiple factions of victims each appealing to the source of their grievance in the expectation that a solution will emerge from it, is a pointless exercise. Yeah voting does help, but the democrats in office now didn't care enough to codify it because it doesnt effect them. Now they're fundraising millions off of losing our rights to our own bodies. Yes, vote, but protest and ORGANIZE. The people HAVE to fight this in other ways than just by voting too, or we're screwed and we descend into full blown fascism. There i going to come a time, even if dems win by epic proportions in the midterms, where Republicans will retake power. They need to understand clearly that people will not accept this christo-fascism. They *ARE* coming for birth control and contraceptives. They're coming for the LGBTQs. They're coming for anyone who isn't a straight, white, wealthy, christian male. Alito mentioned all of these decisions in his appalling draft. We the people have to make it abundantly clear that this is NOT acceptable and we _will_ fight, to the death if necessary, for our rights to our own bodies, sexuality, and identities.

As per Chris Hedges, above the Democrats had 50 years with 3 distinct times 3 distinct presidents had the majorities needed to codify abortion rights into law and they didn't because they'd rather use the fear of Republicans overturning Roe for campaigning. It's time to realize that the dems & republicans are just two faces of the same party with the same donor owners. You notice how well the squad has been brought to heel? The democratic party is the path to the graveyard for progressives & their ideals.

@@doktormcnasty Wrong, Roe wasn't codified because it was considered a Constitutional right by the Supreme Court. Having a majority doesn't get anything passed by Democrats while Republicans are playing obstructionist. The majority has to be filibuster proof. President Obama had that for 43 days because Al Frankin's election was contested for months, and 43 says after he did take office, Senator Kennedy die. Democrats and Repubs are not the same party. Repubs are authoritarian's that do not believe in Democracy. They want to eliminate Social Security, Medicare, unemployment compensation, food stamps, public schools and the USPS.
