According to Wikipedia Call My Bluff was a US game show first! Only ran during 1965 though on NBC. You learn something new every day!

@@TheRealSquirrel the format of call my bluff was thus: 2 teams of 3 celebrities would take turns to describe the meaning of an obscure word from the dictionary as revealed by host (each team supplying three possible definitions). The opposing team would have to guess the correct definition. It was like a forerunner to WILTY but all about words.

The final address by the judge banging his gavel was a reference to 'The Good Old Days' which was an old time music hall show, not a game show. Good one Squirrel, I don't remember ever seeing that one before, cheers!

The game shows parodied were: What's My Line? Mastermind Call My Bluff Blankety-Blank Give Us a Clue Play Your Cards Right The Price is Right They had a series of sketches running through each series as a serial. The Phantom Rasberry Blower of Old London Town (by Spike Milligan) and Piggy Malone are probably the best known.

When this was on we only had 3TV channels and everything shut down about midnight, so no channel surfing in the middle of the night for us lol

Yes often woke up to god save the queen or, beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. I remember when there were two channels, BBC1 and BBC2. but not just the one, bbc one. Our third was htv.

The Joker is from It's A Knockout which was part of the Europe-wide Jeux Sans Frontiers (Games without Frontiers) - which was like a sports day (field day) on drugs,

Spike Milligan used a courtroom for so many of his sketches too, & usually ended up either 'corpsing', himself, or causing his fellow cast members to do so! 🤣 If you're on a quest for the best of UK comedy, I know you'll get round to old Spike sooner or later, because he was the father of UK funnies! 🤣

While the court room scenes might be from some of the fiction series, the main ITV lunchtime show was 'Crown Court' where transcripts from real cases were played out in a mock courtroom with 12 members of the public as Jury, they would make a descision at the end of the week - which may or may not have been the same as the real outcome. The Theme music for the playout was 'Distant Hills'

When Ronnie pulls out the Joker playing card its a reference to the BBC's It's a Knockout with Stuart Hall and Eddie Waring, a slightly more obscure reference that many from the UK might not even remember.

The game where the Bluff card was produced was Call My Bluff. Don't know if it made it to US. Three definitions of a strange word were given, by one team. The opponents had to guess the correct one. Jokers cards were played on Its A Knockout - called Jeux Sans Frontiers in Europe

the charades bit was a show called "give us a clue" -- if you ever get to listening to some radio shows, there's one called "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" where a regular routine starts out giving lionel blair, a regular on "give us a clue," just absolute hell on a regular basis. "Let's move on to Sound Charades. Listeners may not be aware that this was developed from the old TV show called 'Give Us A Clue,' where the teams mimed titles of films or books against a strict time limit. Possibly the most versatile performer was Lionel Blair, and no one will ever forget the occasion he was given 'A Town Like Alice,' when he chose to do a silent impression of the author. Such was the performance, Una Stubbs gasped in amazement when she saw Neville Shute in Lionel's face..." (they staged it like a panel show because you can't run "off-the-cuff" remarks through a censor like they had to with scripted stuff)

The Match Game was ‘Blankety Blank’ in the UK. The triangle was a reference to that too. One of the contestants would be represented by a triangle and the other by a square (for some unknown reason). The two Ronnies is one of the very few old TV programmes where you do not need to see the entire programme to appreciate the sketches. Sit Coms are different with their running gags, and make very little sense taken out of context.
