With the smaller truck segment heating up, GMC takes its very successful Denali package and applies it to the smaller Canyon truck. That, along with a new 3.6L V6 and 8-speed transmission make the latest Canyon one very competitive offering next to the new Tacoma and Ridgeline. But buyers should note that its still missing some key features found in the bigger Denali models.

I bought a year end 2016 Canyon diesel. 11,000 off the list price. My son bought a Colorado 3.6 v6 gas. We raced it, towed with it and compared the 2. Both are what we wanted. Just returned from South Carolina with my diesel and it earned 31.5 mpg running at 75 mph. My son's truck earned 28.2 mpg. Both are great. He bought his for 36000. We both have full size trucks. His gas powered one gets 18mpg. Mine is a 2500 Silverado diesel and it gets 21 mpg. We love our trucks and my 14 vette gets 30 mpg on the highway. It also turned 3.3 seconds in the 60 foot stretch at the local 1/8 mile drag strip. GM has done a nice job on all these vehicles.

I always enjoy your videos, as they are typically informative and unbiased (for the most part). My only constructive criticism would be regarding filming the interior of the vehicle. It's nice that you thought enough to give a "Driver's point of view"; however, the camera changes views (looking around) too quickly at times making it hard for the viewer to follow or focus. It's like watching an episode of "COPS" when they are running someone down on foot. Perhaps mounting a camera in opposite sides of the cabin so we can see you pointing to things. Just a suggestion, but keep on "truckin" cause you do great!

If you go price a comparable full size you'll quickly realize they are much more than this. A basic Texas Edition full sized will run $40k and doesn't have neat the features but does have a V8. Unfortunately vehicles have gotten out of control in pricing these days.

Just picked up a 2017 SLT with the diesel engine. Get about 23 MPG, same as my 2016 Chevy Impala I traded it in for. Honestly I love the truck. My local dealership was getting rid of the 17s for the 18s and I got it 11 grand off the sticker. I have owned an F250, multiple F150s and a BMW and the Impala. I love this truck and would recommend it to anyone. The back seats leave a bit to be desired in the leg space but it is totally fine for short jaunts around town. Decent bed space and is a joy to drive. Is it perfect, no. But it fits my needs and again, really fun to drive. Does pretty well off road too. I took it pretty serious sand dune off roading already. I honestly plan to turn this into an overland rig. I think it was a good buy.

"No one goes for 2 wheel drive." You should have a look down in the southern states. Most trucks sold here are 2 wheel drive because 4 wheel drive is almost never needed. Other than that, nice and informative review.

People keep comparing them with a full size truck, well try to find a Sierra for the same price with those options. You'd be looking at 55k to 60k. Either way, the Canyon isn't lacking compared to the full size truck. They drive so much better and are a lot easier to park, turn, etc.

I love the look of this truck, but for the price the Ridgeline is more spacious inside, has better tech, sunroof, power sliding rear window, and etc. I drove the GMC and Ridgeline the same day at a local car show. I expected this truck to be my favorite but after feeling the spacious interior and build quality of Honda I walked away feeling the Ridgeline was overall a better quality vehicle.

Nice but, definitely overpriced. And to forget led/hid lights, plus a grab handle.... not going to spend 40-50,000 for a truck without led headlights. Honestly the full size is more bang for your buck.

Nice review! But the complaint of the excessive driver aids makes me nauseous... Especially that adaptive cruise control quip. Basic cc is all you need... If the people around you wanted you to "tag along" with them, you'd be in the same vehicle as them. Just my opinion. Otherwise, if I were shopping for a midsize I'd definitely check this one out! 👍🏾

In the market for midsize truck so fit in my Townhouse garge vs Full size will not. Seems the Honda Ridgeline give you more for your buck for msrp of $43,500 . I am leaning toward the Honda with all there tech & LED lights . Maybe get black edition if I am up to the task to keep a black truck clean. Hopefully the USA 2018 Ridgeline will add ventilated front seats like 2017 Canadian version already has. That will put me way over top and buy the Honda. Great reviews! Keep up the good work.

There was a time between 2010-2015 when it was GM engineers that ruled in regards to design and function. But I fear with simple items like the omission of push-button start or LED lights front and back, the bean counters are making themselves known once again. Hmm...the last times the bean counters 'designed' a vehicle, imports were more in favor by the customer then domestics.

Denali badges but SLT options. A top of the line model without keyless start is odd in this day and age but not a deal breaker. However, the idea that you'd pay this much for a truck that doesn't even have dual zone climate control is laughable. Dual zone is close to standard on most mid-range vehicles, how it isn't included at this price point is seems like a huge omission. I used to have a 2006 SLT Envoy and other than ten years of newer electronics it had better standard features than this (climate control, moon roof, rain sense wipers, etc)

I feel like those that buy a truck for it’s intended purpose don’t care about push button start or LED everything. I for one am not a fan of push button that’s on everything nowadays...it’s great until that battery in the remote dies or when the signal fails. I’ve had several friends learn this the hard way. Lack of use on the second remote meant a dead battery when the battery on their primary remote died. I prefer a key.

The product and feature planning folks at GM need to rethink their methodology; not sure what logic they use for things like: 1. No grab handles 2. Why only one seatback pocket? 3. Why use obviously cheap faux wood instead of using the good quality aluminum or alum-look trim. 4. Why create cup holders in the rear seatback arm rest that’s raised rather than flush. 5. Not having sunroof/moonroof at least as an option. ...just a few obvious examples regardless of trim that caused me to not buy this truck and ended up buying a full size truck even though I wanted to buy this Colorado/Canyon.

People need to stop being crazy about push start and smart key access. It's something that is REALLY expensive to fix when it breaks and you're screwed if the battery dies. We have a lincoln mkx and the battery has died to many times and the spare key that it comes with can't even turn in the door handle. Ford crap I know but it seems to be a common occurrence.

If the push button allows you to "tap" the button and begin to buckle your seatbelt while the vehicle starts, it saves time. If you have to press and hold the button, it's pointless. I had a 2012 VW CC with a dash inserted fob (no button, no key). You pushed it in, and it cranked on its own. My 2017 VW Tiguan with push button, you have to hold your finger on the button until it turns over...no different than a key.
@TodayWithDustin
@TodayWithDustin 7 жыл бұрын
05Forenza Some companies have both of those, push and it starts or pushing and holding until it starts. I'd rather have a key regardless because I don't lose my keys, I don't need all that "technology advanced" stuff, I like simple. If it's simple and breaks it's gonna be simple to fix.

Unless you have strict space requirements in your garage, there is no reason to pick this over a full size. With discounts on full sized trucks up to $14,000, you are spending only marginally more for a similarly equipped full size. And you are only getting a small fuel economy penalty. Fords 2.7 ecoboost gets 18+ in the city and 26 on the highway, which already beats this "small truck". I'd be shocked if GM's 2.7 didn't get the same mileage. And at that point, the canyon/colorado trucks are obsolete.

Redline Reviews When are you getting the Lexus LC500 to trash it?

24/7 Gaming So far everyone who drove the LC500 has loved it like MotorTrend & Matt Farrah but for some reason I Know Redline is gonna look for something to complain about it since it's a Lexus/Toyota in his words.

mariano sagastegui I think he means 3 more HP vs. the outgoing 3.6 V6 engine and 6 speed transmission setup.

I really don't like that he is comparing this to the Honda Ridgeline and that's car based and FWD, I understand it is in the truck market but the Ridgeline is at it's own level

No its not, its a city truck which all mid size truck compete in. Where the power is going doesn't change that.

The Ridgeline is based on the Honda Pilot. The Honda interior is better looking and much better materials. The Denali interior looks downright cheap. In terms of looks the Denali is better looking than the Ridgeline. The top of the line Ridgeline is price somewhat similar to the Denali. It's strictly a matter of taste.
