The beginning of the movie tells us who the killer is and we all just ignore it. The opening shots are from the classic Halloween POV (the same one young Michael Myers has.) When the door is answered, it is the sheriff showing up to Thanksgiving (the POV was that of the sheriff's - the actual killer.)

There are plenty of other hints, like 'you'd make a good dish' and stuff, so yeah, I think a lot of people were on to it even if they didn't get the motive for a long while. I finally got to watch this movie and it was epic lol i didn’t think the kills would be this crazy but i enjoyed it. Fun facts: • Eli Roth said the cat in the movie was such a good actor, and performed on cue, that he called him Leonardo DiCatprio. The name of the cat is Tonic and he previously starred in Pet Semetary • Amanda Barker (Lizzie) is actually from Hanover, Massachusetts and she is the 9th great niece of John Carver. Her accent in the movie is genuine. • The third movie based on one of the five mock-trailers seen in Grindhouse (2007). Eli Roth directed the Thanksgiving trailer to be shown between the films Planet Terror (2007) and Death Proof (2007) when shown as a double feature. Machete (2010), Hobo with a Shotgun (2011) and this movie were later made into full-length feature films. As of 2024, only "Don't" and "Werewolf Women of the SS" have not yet been made.

Eli Roth planned a franchise for Thanksgiving, so not all the answers are in this film. A loose end, for example, is when the new police officer (Bret Labelle) is introduced to the detective (Peter Chu) by the sheriff (Eric Newlon) and we see that there is a disagreement between the two that is not mentioned again. As Eric is revealed as the killer, Labelle will probably be the police officer we follow from now on. This story between him and Detective Chu will come to light in the sequel. That said, there is a theory that there was another killer with Eric, but it wasn't revealed in this film. That killer would be Ryan, and this theory is strong because the actor who plays Ryan was wearing the clown costume in the parade scene.

1:13:45 Newlon definitely tried killing Jessica in the high school. He could’ve chloroformed her or used the tranquilizer gun on her as well like Evan and Gabbi. I think after Newlon got whatever information out of her with the surveillance footage, he wanted to kill her off as a loose end. When he failed, he decided to postpone her death. Instead of abducting Yulia, he decided to torture her to mess with Scuba and Jessica on the phone. When they arrived with the gun, he killed Yulia. Instead of postponing Jessica’s murder until the parade, Newlon brought her to the table, and once again she gets the best of him. Had she not been there, her dad, Gabbi and Scuba would’ve been dead.

I think the thing that makes this feel weird in some places is that Roth knew he was going to do a sequel and wanted available candidates for future killers so a lot of plot lines and character arcs are just left lying there for next time.
