So while everyone talks about how hard Phil Collins goes on this movie, let's also give a shoutout to Mark Mancina, who also went hard on the soundtrack, and often goes unnoticed because a lot of people think Phil did all the score when he only wrote the lyrics and sang the songs.

Just to be clear. Mancini wrote the four instrumental tracks (with Collins also involved in the arrangements). The songs were written and composed by Collins; he did not just write the lyrics. Mancina is co-credited with arrangements on the songs. Collins also played drums and piano on the songs.

The film was given a special Oscar for it’s depth vine layer animation and Tony Hawk with other skateboarders were used for reference footage for Tarzan tree surfing. Also Phil Collins won the Oscar for Best Original Song for You’ll be in my Heart and this upset Trey Park and Matt Stone for Blame Canada as they said they would be fine losing to anyone, but not Phil Collins and they made fun of him in the show.

I've seen this movie *countless* times, but it's only just occurred to me! Tarzan is *crazy* focused on the gunshot he hears at 16:20. Maybe he remembers it from when his parents were killed? The looks he's giving here is pretty intense. Back in the treehouse when he was a baby, there's a quiet gunshot effect as Kala walks over the gun, and it sounds near identical.

Tony Goldwyn voicing him brought that elegance and Grace and it's thanks to his voice. Of course Michael T. Weiss from the Pretender franchise took over for the animated Tarzan tv Show. Glenn Close and Lance Henriksen as John Clayton's/Tarzans foster parents and that yearning for a family gives you the feels.

The tech developed for the tree surfing portions of this film was called "Deep Canvas". It basically took the computer generated wire frame shapes of the trees and wrapped a traditionally painted texture around it. You kind of have that 3D element to it especially during Tarzan landing on the ground, with the whole foreground shot as he is slowly circling with the Leopard doing the same thing. Also the photo realistic animation with the Jungle mixed with 2D animation makes the film kind of standout. You kind of sense life when you see the whole jungle setting because it was telling a story.

The finale of the Disney Renaisssance. Started with The Little Mermaid and ended with Tarzan. Tarzan’s “vine surfing” was actually inspired by Glen Keane’s son skateboarding. And Tarzan is the first nearly unclothed animated male which made the animation tricky since the anatomy has to be consistent.

There is a theory that Tarzan’s parents are Elsa and Anna’s parents too, from Frozen. Their parents were the king and queen and they left out on a diplomatic trip on a ship and never returned. The theory is they were gone over a year and Tarzan was born so they never knew or met him. The ship hit a storm and was blown off course and that’s where Tarzan’s story begins. It would be crazy if Disney made that link in a movie.

I also felt like Tarzan was really going for a lot of what worked with Lion King, between the setting, the music and songs (with Collins instead of Elton John), and even the editing. But they pulled it off - it's a worth successor.

@@bphater31 Jungle Book was far better than anyone gave it credit for, and as someone who never really got into the animated Aladdin movies, the live action one was fantastic. And if you want to get technical, Captain America 3 and Infinity War/Endgame were live-action remakes.

On a side note, I've gone back on Disney+ and rewatched alot of "classic Disney animated shows, the Lilo and Stitch Series, Kim Possible, The Proud Family, as well as live action shows like The Suite Life if Zack and Cody, The Suite Life on Deck, Wizards of Waverly Place, That's So Raven, Hannah Montana, Austin and Ally etc, and I thought to myself "Man, where did the shows with heart go?" Sure, we've got great shows now, but man oh man, these shows and movies are special.

One of my fav Disney movies ever. And if they ever decide to live action remake this ( I really hope they don’t ) I think it’d be really really cool if they got Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke as Tarzan and Jane just so we can get those 2 back on screen as a couple again 😂

Tarzan 2 is also low key pretty funny and entertaining. It’s also a prequel so it would de interesting if they reacted too.

Funnily enough I saw Tarzan 2 before I saw the first one. I never watched the first one as a kid but we had the second one on DVD. I watched that movie so many times as a kid that it's still fresh in my mind even though I haven't seen it in years.

Tarzans parents building that entire house and Tarzan not even being old enough to walk yet is kinda crazy, they were some godlike carpenters 😅

It's quite interesting that in the original book Tarzan killed Kerchak as a competitor for the leader's place (and also because he despised him and perceived him as a threat). Shortly before that, Tarzan had killed his brother for the same reason. In general, he killed a lot, for example, cannibal natives, whom he hung on vines initially out of revenge for the death of his mother (they killed her), and then for fun.

This movie is great from the music to the animation style and to the cast it's just a great movie, here's a little fact they taped skateboarders and to capture Tarzans tree surfing. Phil Collins is the greatest and he did amazing work on this movies music. this is my # 4 favorite Disney movie of all time

GREAT REACT!! While attending last years D23 Expo, Score Composer, Mark Mancina, said Phil Collins would call him during the development of the Songs to play what he had and Mancina would tell him to "update a verse or two for more emotion", which made those Songs Oscar Worthy!! ^_^ For a different Tarzan film check out "Tarzan, the Ape Man" (1981) ;)

1980s, 90s and early 2000s might've not had 3D animation (well, not to the extent we have now), but God almighty did this and many others look fantastic for it's time, still does. Tarzan, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Lilo and Stitch, Pocahontas, Monsters Inc, Incredibles, all of these classics are peak Disney. I love and adore many of the latest Disney/Pixar movies that came out from late 2000s to present day, but these movies will always have a special place in my heart, even if I was born in 2000.
