Something that I really liked is that at the beginning, the interactions between Megamind, Metroman, and Roxanne was just fun and full of banter. No one was actually afraid or in danger whenever Megamind does his villain act and it’s a lot like a theater show. The crowd boos at Megamind and cheers for Metroman and Roxanne isn’t fazed by Megamind’s tricks when he reveals the alligators, the drills, etc. And so when Megamind “kills” Metroman, it’s a shock to everyone. It’s like seeing a theater troupe actor killing another actor and show just going on. They had roles they were put into and played, and when Metroman leaves to pursue his music career, Megamind has a chance to be good since he was always seen and labeled as bad despite trying to fit in as a kid.

Two subtle visual cues throughout the movie: characters' eyes and Roxanne's dress. ~ MetroMan's and the Warden's eyes are blue; Minion's and Bernard's eyes are brown; Megamind's eyes are green. When the watch disguises the Warden as Megamind, his eyes are still blue; when it disguises Megamind as the Warden, his eyes are still green. When it disguises Minion as the Warden, his eyes are still brown. When it disguises Megamind as MetroMan, his eyes are still green. The one exception to this is when it disguises Minion as Megamind - probably only to avoid giving away the deception. ~ The color of Roxanne's dress (or shirt) reflects her feelings about Megamind. In the beginning, her dress is red - the opposite color to Megamind (blue). Later, as she's falling for 'Bernard' (but still opposed to Megamind), her dress is purple - the combination of red and blue. After the failed date with 'Bernard', she's wearing a white shirt - being open-minded and reevaluating everything she thought she knew about Megamind. At the end, now fully supporting Megamind, she's wearing a blue dress. Megamind's design was a mash-up of Nikolai Tesla and Alice Cooper - MetroMan's design was a mash-up of Thomas Edison and Elvis Presley.

great movie choice! one of my favorite scenes in this movie is actually the break-up scene because you really get to see the dimensions of Megamind and it's then that you realize he is just someone craving love (though he went about it in the completely wrong way). like the way he answers Roxanne after she asks "do you really think I'd ever be with you?"; he answers "no" because of course he didn't. that's why he continued to wear a disguise because he didn't think he was deserving of love or acceptance, as proven to him when he was a kid just trying to fit in. thanks for another great reaction Greg! ❤
@justradiclesandco2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I love this explanation! It’s a good contrast to Hal as well since Hal thinks that because he has powers, looks good, and acts like a superhero, that he deserves Roxanne. Megamind doesn’t try to force Roxanne to stay after she lists out his actions and why she doesn’t want anything to do with him. He lets Roxanne go, understanding that she’s not wrong to be mad about the deception and his list of bad deeds regardless of his change of heart.

Dreamworks has one of the best artworks for me, and this is a FANTASTIC movie. "PRINCE OF EGYPT" (1998) is also by Dreamworks. I definitely recommend everyone to watch it. Prince of Egypt is supposed to be a children's movie but it really hits hard and tackles topics that make you question if it is for children really (but still a MASTERPIECE). This movie has: - A very beautiful, symbolic and foreshadowing hand drawn animation with some CGI. If you know the most famous thing Moses did then you should know that it took 2 years to animate just that scene (WoW that is dedication). Also, they even put detail in the soft wind blowing your hair and clothes every now and then. - EPIC, majestic, powerful and beautiful ost (Hans Zimmer) and songs (Stephen Schwartz) with beautiful and interesting messages. One of its songs won an Oscar, first non-Disney animated movie to win an Oscar. -Interesting characters. The "hero" ignores facts that he doesn't wish to see, doesn't accept harsh truths at first, or at the second, or the third, and enters in denial state and identity crisis, questions his deeds... We can also empathize with the antagonist and his motives. This story is mainly about the evolution of the relationship between two brothers. So many mixed emotions. Even though it is a religious story, anyone can enjoy it. And, I must say I highly doubt Disney would have taken the risk to do such a project (I think the producer asked Disney for permission but he was rejected?). Other movies that I ABSOLUTELY adore are Spirit (o m g... Tears ...), Shrek, The Road to El Dorado...

I very vaguely remember watching this in cinema as a kid, and remember loving it. Fast forward over a decade and finally remembering it properly, I only love it more. It, as you said, just builds and builds and it's incredible. Thank you for watching Megamind!

I like how the movie portrayed "nice guys" like Hal. Toxic traits like that need to be explored more in kids/parent movies.

4:58 | Don't you dare speak that name, that movie was the only reason why we didn't get a megamind 2.

Seriously forget how great this movie is. It does get better as the movie progresses. I think writing and dialogue is so funny. Great reaction video.

This is in my top five favorite animated movies. Love your reactions, it's like watching it for the first time all over again.

I remember renting this movie back in 2011 and thinking that it was actually superior to Despicable Me. But that movie came out a few months before, so when Megamind arrived people assumed it was a Despicable Me ripoff, never mind that it would be impossible. I'm glad to see it finally getting some love and achieve cult classic status. It just does just about everything so well. I especially like that it foreshadows enough that you should be able to see what's coming, but because it zags where superhero stories usually zig we miss most of them. The result is a story where the turns are set up so well but they still surprise us. Looking forward to the sequel series, which will probably have me finally subscribing to Peacock.

@The Reel Rejects, A sequel is finally coming, Greg. I don't think a date has been stated, but a sequel was announced to be in the work late last year or early this year.

Megamind was released during one of the greatest years for animated pictures. It’s not that this movie wasn’t necessarily received poorly or underrated, it just had some heavy competition at the time. How to train your Dragon, Tangled, Shrek4, ToyStory3 & Despicable me; were all released vaguely around the same time. It’s one of the biggest reasons Megamind didn’t break any major records. Still one of the most incredible animated movie of time.

That scene where Metroman is trying to find his true purpose is quite sad because he’s got all the powers under the Sun yet he doesn’t really know what to do. He’s so tired of fighting Megamind that he finally realises how treated him like a bad guy instead of a missunderstood man. Also I think Hal was a very good hidden villain. There’s actually multiple indications and hidden things that foreshadow him turning evil. His obsession with Roxanne, him talking to himself and also in the scene where Megamind confronts Hal about stealing there a book in his room that is about the best supervillains ever.

"Metro City will never financially recover from this" well.. with Megamind now a good guy, his inventions could go a long way to funding and rebuilding the city, and improving life throughout whatever country metro city is supposed to be in (i don't remember if USA was mentioned within the movie). He could be a multibillionaire and defend the whole city with just his technology, making him untouchable.

I always loved that hal's name is a play on both green lanterns Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart

In the beginning of the movie you can actually see Metroman show up behind Megamind in the cameras when you think he died , then obviously you learn he wasn’t but it’s really cool to see the detail

One of the many cool touches that sometimes go missed in this movie: When Metroman is explaining why he faked his death, in the flashback where he's standing behind Megamind, if you go back to that scene at the start of the movie when they are both on the bigscreens you actually see Metroman flicker ever so briefly at that moment as he moved back and forth.

You asked about Despicable Me at one point. That was actually one of the main reasons this movie didn't make it at the box office. Despicable Me came out *slightly* sooner. They were in theaters at the same time but Megamind got accused of being a rip off because they both had 'minion' characters(obviously by people who hadn't seen both movies). Ironically Megamind was _written_ first

If you see, there are 2 things in this movie that resemble despicable me 1 a lot... 1. The ship that megamind flies after falling from the huge projection entry looks a lot like the shrink ray or the freeze ray of Gru 2. After Gru restores the moon and the ending song starts, you see Gru dancing and then it switches to the villain also dancing in the moon...in here as well,at the last song when megamind dances,it switches to hal dancing in prison

Tony Stark would absolutely appreciate Megamind’s snark, inventiveness, genius, taste in both music and women, but ESPECIALLY his entrances and their PRESENTATION!

About Metroman reminding you of Elvis: They did play an Elvis song during his appearance at the unveiling of his statue.
