exactly. that's why I feel it's important to stay humble about ourselves and not pat on our backs too much etc. yes, in some aspects a lot of great social progress has been achieved in many countries (and even globally). but let's not also pretend that some things are even worse than 100 years ago (e.g. a looming climate disaster)

I love how this video pokes fun at harmful '50s culture while reveling in the aesthetic. Pure genius! EDIT: 5 years, 6.6k likes, and a whole lot of arguing later...Yes, I missed the part of the video that says "1962" before I made this comment. It's still basically the '50s: same era, same aesthetic, same culture, same point I was making. Updated to please the pedants, here's how it would have been written: "I love how this video pokes fun at harmful aspects of late '50s, early '60s U.S. culture while reveling in the aesthetic. Pure genius!" By the way, those harmful aspects I'm referring to are: sexism, racism and racial segregation, selling cigarettes to kids, and homophobia. You know, things that most reasonable people could agree are bad, but apparently not most KZbin commenters, lol!

I think no reasonable person would argue that "everything was bad about the 50's". like, *especially* compared to the decade that preceeded it. (and the same can be said for all of the past (and will be said about today). like, a lot of people LOVE the culture of the 80's. but part of that was also the Aids scare and the rampant homophobia that went along with that. doesn't mean that, for example, you can't or shouldn't enjoy "Ghostbusters")
