One of my favorite bits of lore is that the cross (obviously) mirrors the Christian cross. It used to be a very popular symbol in early editions and, just like Christians, they would make the sign of the cross but instead of "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost", they said "For the Emperor, Sigmund, and Holy Terra". I've also heard "In the name of the Emperor, Sigismund, and Holy Terra".

Sigismund was the single greatest Astartes ever and his brethren, the Black Templars, are a breed apart amongst the Astartes as well. To the Black Templars the Crusade never ended.

@@servicablevillian6457 sigismund surely was one of the greatest, but "the single greatest" is a very heavy claim. :P people still theorize a fight between lucius and sigismund. Then there are Astartes like Dante ... sigismund propbably would be able to defeat him in combat, but would propably never reach his level in sense of responsibility. or even that of Tu'shan. Nor the political finesse of Marneus Calgar. There are many factors defining greatness. Jeah well ... you dont listen to demons in general, but nobody should listen to erebus. i learned that the hard way. And its sad Kharn could not finish the job.

A bit of a mistake in the video. Something to note is that the Dark Angels command what amounts to a legion's strength in marines at any given time as all Unforgiven chapters pledge their secret fealty to the current Supreme Grand Master of the Dark Angels. The title of the Dark Angel's leader is also telling as they are the only Unforgiven chapter to tack on "supreme" to their badge of office.

The Black Tenplar really do say to hell with the Codex. Current estimates are at a minimum of 8k Astarted ( Psychic awakening: Each Crusade fleet containing thousands of Astartes) with at least 4 Crusader fleets known. (Only Helbrecht axtually knows how many fleets) This number was significantly higher in the past, with 9 well populated recruitment worlds and an Imperial edict from the High Lords to recruit from their fleets as well. Some estimates put them at over 20k Astartes before Cadia and the 13th Black crusade. Which the Templar bore the brunt of, responding to every major theater of operation head first, as is theyre way. My favorite chapter in the Adeptus Astartes, period. Their faith is so powerful that they are nigh impervious to all the strongest psyker *witchcraft...* Yet they exercise a healthy degree of pragmatism keeping sight of the greater campaign over dying to the last man in every single battles. They will retreat if doing so is deemed necessary to the greater mission, even if some unfortunate civilians must be left behind. This is why I prefer them over the Salamanders. And honestly, is there anything more beautiful in the entire setting than a grizzled Black Templar gingerly handing a flower to a devoted Battle Sister causing a faint, delicate smile on her lips?

Truth. I think they get a bad rap as mindless religious zealots, when above all, they are mostly quite pragmatic. They have their own traditions rituals sure, but most are formed from pragmatism and the desire for victory and the defense of Mankind, and this is evident by their results. Even adopting the religious zealotry is quite pragmatic in the 40k universe, as it tends to help resist the temptations of chaos. They don't hate psykers for pointless ideological or religious reasons. They don't even hate them, really. They just learned how to get by without them and refuse to fight with them because they are a liability that may summon the daemons of chaos. They are fine with the Grey Knights because this doesn't happen with them. They defy the codex for the betterment of the Imperium. They take their role of space marines more seriously than others, waging constant crusades against the ruinous powers, engaging in more battles than anyone else. They don't care for politics and ask for neither praise nor glory. They just fulfill their duty. Sure they may get a bit carried away in their zealotry (downside of being zealous), but they took care to isolate themselves to their fleets so they generally aren't interacting with others outside of battle.

Id like to see a Sigismund like astartes return in the form of a neophyte that is just too good at melee combat. He could get the Valten treatment from Warhammer Fantasy minus the shitty ending. It would be great to see World Eaters namely Kharn react to his movements and feel a mix of nostalgia, anxiety, excitement and a little bit of fear. Abbadon would feel a slight burning sensation in his chest and when he looks down he hallucinates the black sword going through it.
