Well, you can ‘command’ all you want, but God is sovereign in the results. We can’t compare our approach to Jesus, when He commanded, because God can do what He wants and Jesus has all authority. When did Jesus command something and it didn’t come to pass? It seems to me, if you are ‘commanding’ someone to be healed, you are acting with authority, as if God has shown you that He intends to heal someone. If said individual is not healed, than you have not heard from God and you are acting on your own. Which can be very dangerous. This is where the abuse of the gifts comes in. 🙏

Can you demonstrate from the New Testament that praying for healing is more normative than commanding healing in Jeus name?
@mikem3789
@mikem3789 Жыл бұрын
@@gareth2736 Although I believe the gifts continue for today, clearly the apostles had a special anointing and calling from God. They moved in that authority. As mentioned, no where in scripture did Jesus command something to be done, like calming the storm, and it didn’t happen. If Ken Copeland commands that ‘COVID be gone’, he is acting beyond his authority. Last time I checked, COVID is still with us. If we are ‘foolish’ enough to ‘command’ healing and it doesn’t happen, which is frequently the case, we are outside His authority. It’s a blatant abuse of the gifts and misrepresents the Lord to the world and other believers. The same can be said regarding ‘the baptism of the Spirit’, speaking in tongues, deliverance ministries, and prophetic ministries. If you don’t do it God’s way, you are operating in your flesh or worse yet, under the deception of the enemy.

IMO, the model request for healing in Scripture is the Roman centurion's, because Jesus commended his faith. The centurion's humble plea was grounded in the authority of Christ. He knew who Jesus was, and that He could command anything from anywhere. When I pray for someone's healing, my declaration is God's sovereignty. It usually goes something like, "Lord, You are sovereign over every cell in ______'s body. Every cell must obey You, and if You just say the word, she WILL be healed." And then I ask for that. I ask because that's what Scripture tells us to do; the imperatives outweigh the indicatives: "ASK and it will be given to you ..." (Matthew 7:7) "If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ASK ..." (Matthew 18:19) "Whatever things you ASK in prayer ..." (Matthew 21:22) "For everyone who ASKS receives ..." (Luke 11:10) "Whatever you ASK in My name, that I will do ..." (John 14:13) "You will ASK what you desire ..." (John 15:7) "Whatever you ASK the Father in My name He may give you ..." (John 15:16) "... do not cease to pray for you, and to ASK ..." (Colossians 1:9) "... let Him ASK of God ..." (James 1:5) "Yet you do not have because you do not ASK" (James 4:2) "And whatever we ASK we receive from Him ..." (1 John 3:22) "If we ASK anything according to His will, He hears us ..." (1 John 5:14)

A former pastor of mine used to YELL when he was praying for people, “GOG, DO IT NOW. DO IT NOW GOD.” Just screaming. This pastor also said, “If you don’t tithe, you’re probably not saved.” He also led people in corporate prayer, “God we forgive you.” That freaked me out. Another time he said “If you aren’t working in this church, an actual JOB, you might question your salvation”. So much more. After 4 years of being bullied, I left.

so this is a kind of strange story. My Dad's dog recently passed away. To make a long story short, it was very dark and foggy out, the dog was running through the yard and slid into a tree at full speed. Ended up breaking it's back and had to be put down. The next day my dad was making a comment that he should "just cut that stupid tree down, he doesn't want it to be up and be a reminder of what his dog did". That night we had a major wind storm come through. This specific tree is in a cluster of about 12 trees. They woke up the next morning to see that tree have been knocked down. Like almost completely uprooted, but none of the other trees were touched.

I'm with Miller. I hear ya. When the Spirit compels a humble and prayerful heart to minister, it can look very unconventional at times. I don't usually talk about those experiences unless the person affected wants to proclaim the deliverance or healing, since it is their story to proclaim. I'm just the vessel of honor. As a Birth Doula, I would see the Spirit at work in the most beautiful and unusual ways. I continually stood in awe and gave Him the glory!

I have 2 Children that have pretty serious health issues. But one in particular, my son Nathan(he is 15 years old)has the more serious illness. In a nutshell we have been to Dr's, Specialist and have been basically told the treatment that they would like to do would cause a type of Cancer but that it is a treatable Cancer. We have since left that route and have been working with Dr's that take a more holistic approach to healing. Nathan has made much progress, but still in alot of excruciating pain throughout his entire body,his nerves have been affected as well as swelling in some of his joints,along with having to take so many meds. It has been a Very hard life altering road. I do believe God still heals but I have not seen what I say I believe, my theology doesnt line up with my experience. A couple of versus do make me pause and think,even though I have heard these versus used wrongly I still do not quite understand them or maybe I do and I am living with the consequences, I am referring to Mark 6:5 and Matthew 13:58 any help on these versus would be cool but even more cool would be to lift Nathan and our family up in prayer to King Jesus.

I think in the two verses mentioned, the faith the people lack is faith in Christ, not merely faith for healing. There were many in the gospels who believed Christ for miracles but when He preached the Kingdom, that's when people left Him. (See John 6) Those of us who trust in Christ are not withheld our prayers because of a lack of belief. We trust in His providence and ask Him for what we think we need but ultimately we pray 1) His will be done 2) Give us this day bread to sustain our needs
@phillipsugwas
@phillipsugwas 5 ай бұрын
1. Led by the Spirit. Words of knowledge. Manifestations like a sense of warmth etc 2. Clearly a Kingdom event ( healing) does not always " breakthrough" but that does translate into a response where people cast around not no " lack of faith", or blame games. Dynamics mean one doesn't even understand events. No neat boxes.

I personally believe we ask for healing then decree it is done. Believing that God heard your prayer and is and has healed that person because of what Jesus did on the cross. Jesus in Mathew 17:21 nkjv when casting out demons, (which is a form of healing) says, However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” so prayer is also called for.

I completely agree that we cannot put formulas on these things but should be led by the Spirit. However, there is research even in the secular world about the power of blessings and curses (psychology, water vibrations, etc.). It probably speaks to an underlying spiritual law that should be understood in light of scripture. Both declaring random things and twiddling our thumbs are extremes.

Comment on why Jesus used spittle to heal (from a Jewish perspective): Mixing it and making mud was, according to the Pharasees (and today's rabbis) as changing the form of a substance, thus work done on the Sabbath. That's why he did it, to show that He is the Lord of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is the Lord's day!

At 55 mins, Brothers, this decree articulation is hard for me. I feel we’d have to separate the language “decree” from us being the agents of “appropriating” the healing that IS in the atonement. That is a major part of how the language of decree is used and I feel removes God’s sovereignty and Him being THE high priest appropriating healing with the hyssop via the Holy Spirit working it and it is an act of grace mediated by Jesus Himself, revealing the Father’s will to heal. He is the “appropriator” even when we declare. Almost think it would be more helpful to say, when our “declaration” lines up with His “decree” of healing and the timing of His will, we maybe better harmonize His sovereignty and delegated/extended authority. Not decree, but declare. He decrees, we declare/herald?

A couple of observations that may help. First, many people view prayer as asking God for something they do not have. Health or wholeness for example. When prayer should be asking for the experience in earth, of what we already have in heaven. The other thing is that Jesus Himself did not declare or decree anything because He had the power, and decided to use it. The things He declared and decreed, were the things that He saw and heard the Father doing. If we look and listen to what the Father is doing, and then speak that, we will always see the results. Because we are not calling something into existence, we are simply declaring something that God has already done or is doing, into earthly experience out of heavenly reality.

Ham didn't do anything sexual to Noah, he literally raped his mother(Noahs wife) in order to usurp Noahs authority(which was a common practice in the ancient world)- that is why Noah curses Canaan(the child that was born of incest) and Noah isnt creating a curse from his own will or power, he is prophesying. When it says that Ham uncovered his fathers nakedness it is speaking of Noahs wife- we get the context in Leviticus 20:7-8 which says: You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, which is the nakedness of your mother; she is your mother, you shall not uncover her nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your *father’s nakedness.*

Don't apologize and don't try to conform to man's expectations and comprehension. Just do the Lord's work, led by His Spirit (or the other name we give Him, "something") even if it means appearing "weird" and people not understanding. in the general topic of blessings and curses, i recall Watchman Nee's The Latent Power of the Soul where he describes that we were all created with some level of inherent power in our eternal souls to affect people. i think there's something to that. i think it's possible for judgements and curses to become an oppression, maybe even further empowered if demons inhabit the curse which becomes witchcraft. i also believe parent can and should bless their children which has power in and of itself.

True story, and I am not a cessationist so don't misunderstand, about 20 years ago I would always have to drive between two strip clubs on my way home and I always prayed to God for them to burn down. The damage they do really upset me and I wanted them gone. After about a year of prayer, one of them (the more run down and trashy looking one of the two) burned to the ground and I assumed it was an answer to my prayers. Well, within a few months the owner had rebuilt the place bigger and way nicer looking than before and once it reopened it had way more traffic than ever. Ugh. I still don't know what to make of that one.

In saying that James 5 should be followed rather than the examples and command of Jesus, James gave Elijah as an example of effective prayer. James 5:17 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit. 1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, surely there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” Hmm. This is what James equates to effective prayer. Sound like declaring, decreeing, commanding in the name of the Lord?

As humans (not just as Christians) we have power, right? We can heal and we can kill. I would think as a believer who is empowered by the Spirit, we have power to bless, heal, whatever ... and even to harm. To an extent God trusts us with this power. Absolutely we can heal (or whatever) when we specifically hear God tell us to do it. But as His children, He allows us to do what WE want too ... for good and bad. Is God sovereign? Of course, but I believe that free will plays a big part. Good topic!

We aren't supposed to try to do everything that Jesus did when He was on the earth. Jesus walked on water and calmed the storm, that doesn't mean that we should try to. Everything that was done, was done for a reason.

Prayerfully consider 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 My message and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith would not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power. Again, just a few sentences earlier (1 Corinthians 1:7), it is written: For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with words of wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 1 Corinthians 1:7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly await the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. Mark 16:15-18 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My Name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.” *Now note the concluding verses which explain the function and purpose of these signs: vs.20 And they went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked through them, confirming His word by the signs that accompanied it. Blessings in Christ to you. May you be strengthened and edified in His Word through His Holy Spirit.

Htebazile ~ I love your passion. I believe we're very near the last days according to the Word of God. In John 12:12-14 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to the Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." This is a very powerful statement He gives us! This added to the prophecy in Joel 2:23-32 It states that God will restore for all of us His children all that the enemy has stolen from our lives, provide for our needs, AND pour out His Spirit on all flesh... I believe we're going to be astonished at/by the power of the Holy Spirit in believers to do wondrous things for the glory of God! And, it just may be of necessity to survive at that point. I'm open to the Lord, but I totally respect your statement!

It seems you pray if you don't know God's permissive will on a healing, but if you feel the Spirit and fire and boldness over the act, it's already been approved in heaven so you can declare what was already decided.

If we say negative things it does effect people weather we are believer or covenant or not. Look at the study with plants and rice. You can scream at rice and it turns black. You can yell at plants and they die.

I was recently “cursed” by a (supposed) fellow believer I met online, and bc I wouldn’t send him money, I called him a scammer. He then declared he was a man of God, he declared (and cursed) me to a life of forever being unhappy, never remarried (I’m a widow) and so forth. Although i called him a scam artist, I recognize a curse when I hear one. How should I take this? I’ve declared his curse null and void, but not sure.

I encourage you to focus on how big God is. God set limits on the devil.with regard to Job. Satan would have loved to have destroyed Job, but got did not let him do it. Do this: Since he cursed you to perpetual unhappiness, make it a point to focus on the Lord and His great love for you. Take time to praise Him. See whether or not your countenance changes. More importantly, joy is part of the fruit of the Spirit. So you think that guy, or anyone else, can take the Holy Spirit away from you? In fact, can anyone separate you from the love of God? (read Romans 8:31-39 for the answer). Be blessed, and may the peace of God rest on you.

Commanding a sickness to leave is different than commanding God to do something. We ask God to heal and we command sickness to leave. I think the Bible’s pretty clear on that. Sovereignty is a very mysterious subject and is obviously a point of contention amongst Christians. I guess it depends on how much free will or agency any of us have. God is sovereign, he can do anything, but that doesn’t mean he will do anything or everything. I believe there’s enough evidence in the Bible to suggest we have some amount of agency, especially when doing things within Gods will. How could God be pleased or displeased with human outcomes if we didn’t have a part to play in it?

It's not normative. The key is spirit led in MATURITY under sound biblical understanding of healing. Well done. May God be glorified! Knife out of back: It could've been sickness caused by a demon. I've experienced a lot of healing and the couple that have been demonic, I too was angry, overcome by The Spirit and said it with an authoritative command.

How about the perspective that the Word describes our relationship with God in such a way that God honors our decisions. That if we are submitted to God that He gives us the desires of our hearts (minds). Or that God can be persuaded by the request of a person calling out to Him. I wonder if we take the stance of God's sovereignty so far that it removes some of the relational aspects of His involvement.

The Apostles were baptized with fire. They also fasted. Most people today are not baptized with power nor do they believe the Word. God is ready to perform His Word. People don't know His Word to apply it. How many take the Word of God and apply it to the situation without doubt. I have a friend that I pray for sometimes the issue goes but then her mouth is not guarded and filled with doubt and unbelief. We need to be taught how to keep our healing. And no one is teaching on that. However Thurman Scrivner has taught many podcasts how to keep our healing.

Blessing and cursing: in most of those examples, the person doing doing the act was in authority over the recipient. Solomon was king of Israel, Noah and his son, etc. In others it was something God said would happen if a specific thing happened first. Personal thoughts without digging, myself, yet.

Using the parable of the dry bones to say there is a basis for decreeing and declaring? No guys this is wrong. Go and read that passage again. Be careful that you do not use scripture to support doctrines yóu really like. Count the instances the scriptures say that God commanded Ezekiel in all he did there and that Ezekiel did what God commanded. The passage highlights God's authority, not Ezekiel's. Ezekiel admits that he does not know but that God knows everything. There is no basis and no support for drcreeing and declaring in the Bible. Especially the way it is used nowadays to portray the authority of the believer. This is pride and it is sad

What about when the apostle Paul cursed that man with a few days of blindness? I think it’s reasonable to believe this wasn’t a spontaneous act of the flesh but rather, the Spirit of God rose up in Paul…

While perhaps not monolithic in scope, the presentation of "decreeing and declaring" is often expressed in a fashion that would usurp the authority (at least an attempt) of God and instead have it be the authority of man. All sense of creations coming before the Infinite and Almighty God of the universe who spoke and creation was is gone. Saldivar, White, Kerr (maybe not completely fair since she is crazy), and others do this stuff.
