Happy Thanksgiving, Great Video. As I've said before I'm just a simmer. My go-to GA aircraft is the SR22 in X-Plane. I've learned a lot from watching all of your videos and simulate/employ all of your ideas/procedures. I also enjoy reenacting your flights albeit in the Sim.

Great information as usual Ren. I think I mentioned to you earlier, when I was moving up to bigger and faster aircraft I was lucky to fly with some very professional pilots. Their attention to detail such as you described in this video taught me a lot. Keep up the good work Sir.

I really enjoy watching your videos. You probably don’t remember but I met you in front of the cirrus store at Oshkosh this year. I am stuck between weather buying a SR22 OR DA62. This my be a silly question for a Ferris owner but which would you suggest? Keep up the good work.

Well I'm obviously biased as an owner of a SR22T. But a few months ago I met another pilot who was going through the same scenario and he wound up buying a DA62. Now his situation is somewhat unique because he still does not have his ppl, ifr, or multi-engine rating. But he invited me out to see his plane and here's what I can say. It's very roomy on the inside for the passengers, but not as roomy for the pilot strangely enough. My first plane had a stick rather than a yoke and what always kind of bothered me was that the stick made using a kneeboard or moving your legs around very difficult. When I bought our Cirrus I thought it would take alot of time to get use to the Cirrus Sidestick but it took about an hour. And after 2 hours I would never want to go back to the floor stick. The side positions frees up so much space its not a fair fight. What I loved about the DA62 is that the engines run on Jet fuel which is alot cheaper. They are also one button push starts and the computer handles the whole runup and test sequence automatically. Awesome feature I wish we could do in a Cirrus. In terms of the avionics layout I don't think anybody does it better than Cirrus. The Cirrus is expensive. The DA 62 is alot more expensive. THe DA62 has 2 engines which is better than one for sure in an engine out scenario...but an extra engine won't help in a loss of control scenario but a parachute probably will. I've not had a chance to actually fly a DA62 so I can't speak to its flying characteristics but I'm told its wonderful. Maybe one day when my friend is flying his DA62 I'll get a chance to check it out. But if I had to decide today between the 2 knowing what I know I think I'd still go with the SR22. The CIrrus commitment to safety, the pilot community, the abundance of Cirrus service center and infrastructure is hard to match and Diamond has a long way to go before they are in the ball park. You mentioned Oshkosh. I went over to the Diamond exhibition area and it felt like a library. The Cirrus area felt like a packed rock show. Lots of smiling faces! Good luck on your choice.

Thanks for a great explanation Steve. I'm curious what you might think about intersection takeoffs, especially from unfamiliar airports. Do you accept them? My instructor always told me you can't have too much gas at takeoff or too much runway ahead of you, and I know there are many pilots who refuse them unless at their home field or at a major airport where you still might have a couple of miles of runway ahead of the intersection. Happy Thanksgiving to you, the Baroness, and your family.

I agree with your instructor. Fill up the tanks and use every bit of runway that's available. On a recent flight I posted of a flight from Seattle to Medford the controller gave me an intersection assignment and I asked and got the full length...all 10,000 feet of it. Cheers-Ren
